Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
link: Oscar Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Another contradiction from DelaHoya. DelaHoya rejected a fight against Margarito since he felt that Margarito vs. Williams should take place first. Now DelaHoya is suddenly interested in fighting Williams? Good fight tho...

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
At this point, I've lost almost all interest in Oscar De La Hoya...He's like a girl looking in her closet for a date and not being able to decide what dress to put on...

Oh no! We crossed the line...

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Seriously, I think Oscar just pretending he's interested in a Williams fight to lessen the bashings he got when he avoided a Margarito fight... Williams and Margarito are considered the top welters right now...

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Personaly,I am anticipating DelaHypas retirement.Just enough already :greedy:.Seems to have a death-grip on the spotlight though.
This ones a bad Idea For Oscar.Williams is too long, too big,too busy for this late stage Oscar.I still believe Mayweather will "shock" us all and come back into the mix as well.
-
Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Hoya been slapping his possible opponents with his antics;
- Hoya slaps Pacquiao with his unfair 70/30 purse split offer and rejecting Pacquiao's 60/40 demand
- Hoya slaps Margarito by considering Paul Williams as his next opponent while rejecting Margarito's challenge
.
-
Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
This has to be very distracting and annoying for those who just might get a last shot at Oscar, it's obvious Oscar is looking for a win so that he can go out on top but at this point in time his options are not very good not even if he was facing a smaller man in PAC. There is no way in hell he beats the pressure cooker Antonio Margarito. Although he is easy to hit, he is hard to dent and can really take a punch to the head, face, chin and body. Paul Williams is a whole different fighter today and has learned from his loss against Q. Cotto is out of the picture for now. The only safe opponent is Mora but, he has to get past Forrest and this might be a different Forrest this time around. I have a feeling ODLH is going to ride this out until after the Mora fight. ODLH just might retire and not fight anyone. It might be over. Adios CASH COW

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Eh, I don't mind. This is good for Williams, I hope he gets this fight afterall if anyone in this division deserves the De La Hoya spotlight he does as he's the one guy at the top who has yet to get his own super fight.
I hope it happens. Everyone hates both of these guys though and I can understand very few of the qaulms here. Is the demand really that great for De la Hoya to fight Margarito? Pacquiao-De La Hoya was a stupid idea and I'm never going to be convinced otherwise no matter what Freddie Roach or international matchmaker Ausdf Smahfsd says.
So this makes sense, Williams needs to capitalize after his last performance, he looks like he might be entering his prime.
-
Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Anybody else think a De La Hoya vs Cotto match-up isn't so far out there? Even though Cotto lost recently I still think this is still an interesting fight.
Cotto just lost, so beating De La Hoya would put him right back in the mix.
De La Hoya would still be fighting one of the best and a very marketable fighter.
I know De La Hoya said he would fight the "winner" of the fight but we all know he isn't fighting Margarito. The "loser" of that fight isn't exactly a walk in the park but a very valid opponent for anyone..

I don't think Hoya-PAC is a stupid idea... The 5'0" Calderon fought and beat the 5'5" Cazares before and they will be fighting again this weekend. I hear no protest about this David vs. Goliath fight. Cazares also enjoys 4" in reach advantage and maybe 15 to 20 lbs. weight advantage on fight night... Calderon-Cazares has more size differential than PAC-Hoya and no one calling it a stupid fight. And here's the irony, the smaller guy won the first fight... ;)

DelaHoya said he will not fight any Puerto Rican (orders from his Puerto Rican wife)... that includes Cotto, Santos, Tito and Ivan Calderon... ;D

I would love to see Cotto bash Dela hoya's face in.

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Well IMO Oscar beats Pac and Margarito but could well struggle with Williams. Oscar has always taken the most challenging matches so I wouldn't be suprised if he did again here.
-
Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
If Oscar takes on Paul Williams, then people have to respect that.
I have never liked ODLH but I don't think that he's scared to fight Margarito, I really do think the only reason he's not fighting Margarito is sincerely because he wants to go out beloved and cheered for by all. Fighting Tony (who's establishing a big Mexican fanbase now) just isn't the way to do it. That fight will be split between the mainstream audience/ women rooting for Oscar and most hardcore boxing fans/Mexicans rooting for Tony. ODLH has always been insecure about how he's viewed by the Mexican people and he knows that Mexicans would root against him if he fought Tony. ODLH is a narcissist that can't take being booed or hated and has to be loved by all so there's absolutely no way he's fighting Tony.
So if he can't fight Tony, and if he shouldn't fight Pac, then I'd say Williams is a great option. If ODLH wins, he beat the man (Williams) who beat the man (Tony), he took on a legitimately difficult challenge in Williams, and he'd be the absolute good guy throughout the entire promotion and everyone (but me) would be cheering for him. The only negative for ODLH is that the fight wouldn't sell as much as a Pac or Marg fight but with the right promotion it will still do very well.

Calderon only moved up one weight division to fight Cazares though, after being at 105 his entire career before that. Pac fighting DLH at Welter after not even taking a real challenge at 135 is fairly crazy. And the smaller guy winning is not even remotely ironic, I always get a kick out of how badly everyone butchers that term.

Not only that but other boxers have not accepted to fight him already. Not an easy situation for him now.

Unfair? ODLH is still the guy with the bigger name and what he is offering PAC is an amount he is yet to receive in a fight.

Maybe as fast as Cotto saying "I want to fight Margarito again...NOW!"

Re: Oscar DelaHoya Shifts Toward Paul Williams
Waaaay better than a Hatton or Pac fight. Williams got his wish....When asked who he would like to fight next. "You know some De La Hoya, you know some Mayweather". It was like he was ordering off a menu and couldn't decide I'll have a lil De La Hoya and a side of Mayweather....

Didn't see it that way, I agree. Look at what happened after he faced J.C. Chavez. He wants to leave with a good paycheck, victory, and fanbase. It makes sense.

Wouldn't sell as much but making it his FAREWELL FIGHT might still make some numbers. He would still leave with a fat paycheck if he fought a bum, no doubt.

That's what Pacquiao felt about the 70/30 offer, it's unfair and a slap in his face... Hoya having 60% of the pie clearly indicates that he's the bigger name... Hoya is just too greedy to up his share to a whooping 70% ...
Pacquiao presently is standing tough on his demand of 60/40 purse split and might not even accept a 65/35 split...

I'm pointing out the size differential that everybody is protesting about the planned Hoya-PAC fight. The Cazares-Calderon fight has about the same if not bigger size difference than Hoya-PAC...
...................... Height ....... Reach
Oscar DelaHoya .. 5' 10.5" ...... 73"

Maybe 10 to 20 lbs. weight difference on fight night...

No way this fight happens . Paul is the best out there and his style is a nightmare for anyone. Oscar would not seriously consider this fight . Theres more chance of him fighting Tony cuz atleast he would land some shots .

Oscar/GBP mentioning Paul Williams name in order to generate additional hype for Hoya-PAC fight... ;)

Who do you think these boxers will cheer for? Hoya or PAC?
Who do you think these boxers will cheer for? Hoya or PAC?
1. PBF - he was wildly cheering for PAC (even jumping at ringside) during the 2nd Morales fight. I think he will be cheering for PAC again in this fight...
2. JCC Sr. - I think Chavez Sr. doesn't like Oscar and might be cheering for PAC...
3. MAB - Barrera recently broke his ties with Golden Boy Promotions. He might side with PAC in this fight.
4. Vargas - Fernando Vargas walked and cheered for David Diaz in his fight with Pacquiao but after PAC convincingly beat his boy in a fair clean fight, Vargas might cheer for PAC this time around.
So these are my guesses:
1. PBF - PAC
2. JJC Sr. - PAC
3. MAB - PAC
4. Vargas - PAC
What's your thoughts?

I'll say NOBODY, except me;D, will ever cheer for ODLH because he's such a terrible guy in and out of the ring.

Even them won't cheer for him, we all know how terrible ODLH is:mad:. If you see someone in the crowd with a Mexican flag, it might be me:cool:.

So I'm guessing majority of the Mexican fans (flag waving at that) will be cheering for Pacquiao.

It will affect the fight business-wise... News of Chavez Sr. walking PAC in this fight and news of PBF, Vargas and Barrera publicly saying that they will cheer for PAC will greatly affect the financial aspect of this fight... That's the impact if these things I'm thinking will come true... :lolhaha:
