Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Although he beat a limited guy, McCrary is also pretty tough. I was actually pretty impressed and figured it would last well into the 7th.
I was just wondering if the seemingly hungry Manfredo who seemed to loss interest after Calzaghe has changed any minds on whether or not he can take a valid shot at a belt.
IMHO a good showing in a Bika fight would be the berometer as I'm not sold after this win, although somwhat impressive.
He's calling out Bika and I think by the way he looked in the McCrary fight and Bika's style it could be pretty interesting.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
I think Bika would kick the shit out of him personally

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
.....POB, you're a sad sad man. At least the fighters I like are actually good ;D
Manfredo is limited, he seems to have skill at times and then he seems to lack heart or the balls to stand and fight. He just can't seem to get it all together on one night.
Sergio Mora ruined him ;)

It's quite the possibility. Bika is a throwing machine and when he catches you(which he will) you better be able to maintain.

Lol, F**k you, Lyle...;D
I do agree, though.
He can't put it all together in one night.

....the girl he was with in the ring after the fight was nice looking, I'll give him that !! (at least i heard she was, the wife does read this shit)

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
i saw the fight POB and was equally impressed..
with that said, i still, and will always be until proven wrong, in the "believe it when i see it" mind set with manfredo.. he had his chances, and he blew it both times.. Now he realizes the chances that he had, and seems hungry, but i still don't think he has what it takes at this point to become a top contender..
If he was fighting 160, i'd say maybe.. if he was able to go below 160 he'd have an even better shot, but i just don't see it happening at 168.. He does not have any exceptional defensive skills, and he takes a lot of short punches on the inside.. He has decent power but at 168 it is nothing to brag about.. No doubt the guy has skill, he just has the wrong style and is too small for this weight class, plain and simple.

Oh, I entirely agree... I don't think he'd be able to do anything at 160. 154 he could but not 160. Guys like Sturm and Abraham would cut him to ribbons... Less dept at 154.
I also agree that he's not exceptional in any one area. He is a decent all around fighter who shows flashes of good things but as Lyle so elequently stated he can't put it all together in one night, sadly.
He puts on one more showing like he did against Lacy or Calzaghe in front of an international audience and he may as well stay in RI.

I agree, if he'd managed to stay at 154, or even 160, he could've been a much more accomplished fighter. He was never going to be elite, but I think he would've been much better served at the lower weights.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
With this showing Manfredo has changed my view of him , i now think he is very poor , as opposed to fucking useless
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Peter Manfredo freezes on the big occasion, simple as. It's the sole reason he won't be a top fighter. For some reason it winds me up that Jeff Lacy was there for the taking on 8/12/07 an Manfredo done sweet fuck all. Maybe fighting on HBO PPV freaked him out.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Manfredo is just not that talented. A hard worker though.
Although his fight with Lacy was close, he could have easily been declared the winner.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Manfredo has his level, if he fights a class above he loses, a class below he'll look good. He doesn't seem to have the hunger and drive to overcome the guys a little above him at the moment which is what he should strive to do.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
I must admit that when I saw the word hunger in the title I assumed he'd leapt to Light Haevyweight.
Peter should operate at 154.
A fight with Duddy would be good for both.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
In all fairness to Manfredo, he was not even given a chase to warm up against Calzlappy. I think the ref knew Calzlappy injured his hand. I will even go as far as to say that this was already planned just in case.
If you hurt your hand, let me know, then swarm and smoother Manfredo with a bunch of smoke and mirrors and do the angry penguin slap on his azz and I will stop the fight.
Not to mention that Freddie CockRoach just left Peter hanging, on the biggest night of his life.

Agreed but if he wants to fight anywhere near the top tier(which he has not earned and may never earn) he'll need to get over this. I'll give him one more high profile fight and then chalk him up as a choke artist.
He needs to show the public he WANTS to be there.

Pride I hate to become repetitive, but as we've agreed before if he wants to fight at the top tier he can only do so at 154.

Seems like that's never gonna happen due to lazyness so I guess it's kind of a moot point.

Very True.
Peter is actually displaying a lot of heart, strength and fortitude campaigning where he's at.
He's naturally only got the make up of a Light middle, so to see him hang in there with Lacy does stand testament to him in some respects.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
I gotta agree with Lefty here, when he needs to pull the trigger in the spotlight he doesn't. On smaller fights he lets it all go, but he needs Yoel Judah in his corner, to get a little more BAM BAM BAMBAM.
I am impressed with how busy he's keeping himself.

Yoel Judah is rediculous;D
He does stay busy and looked the sharpest I'd seen him since his fight with Spina.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
He really didn't impress me too much.I would like to see what he can do next though. I think a Bika fight would be great at this point.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Manfredo-Duddy would be GREAT to see....if Pete's fat ass could make 160 again.
Hell even Manfredo-Lee would be a decent fight to make soon (once Lee gets his shit together)
I'd like to see him fight Allan Green or Andre Ward to be honest

He went 10 with Lacy, but got blown out in 3 by Calzaghe.

Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Manfredo could have beaten Lacy but once Lacy started throwing power punches Manfredo was shitting himself.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
Manfredo is a local feel good fighter...He will get on the undercard of big events and headline some small shows but nothing more.....He is the guy that everyone from his hometown can say they know or they have met and it is a name most who are fans of the sport have heard of and those who aren't are impressed by the whold TV show thing.......
Peter is a nice kid with limited skills and will never be world champion but is also they guy you would like to see make it happen....makes it fun to root for him

He Can't Compete With The Elite But I Do See As Kind Of A Gatti Who Only Beat Mediocre Fighters And Was Outclassed Everytime He Took A Step Up.

I actually think he has good skills, but he lacks great athletic ability and the drive to work and diet himself in the kind of condition he needs to be at the top of his game. He can fight both inside and out, he has some defense. He's a cute fighter who doesn't get hit flush much, and at his best, he doesn't waste a lot of nervous energy. On the other hand, he doesn't have exceptional hand or foot speed. He's not a naturally powerful puncher. Most of his success is based on the fact that he's been training since he was very young and he has very good fundamentals. If he had the discipline to make 154 the right way (not a weight drained, weak 154), he could be legit top 10 fighter and legitimately challenge for an alphabet soup belt. But at 168, he's never going to beat guys that don't have serious flaws. He can hold his own at that weight with limited and incomplete fighters like Banks, Spina, and McCrary. Hell he even had a chance to beat Lacy, he's a more skillful boxer than Lacy, but Lacy is too big for him and once he tasted the power of a real hard hitting SMW, he mentally folded. A guy like Bika is going to out muscle him. He's' just too big physically, and Allen Green would outbox him soundly if he fought a smart fight.
I honestly think he would stand a good chance against Jean Pascal. After Froch puts a hurt on Pascal, that would make a great fight for both guys. Manfredo vs Duddy is a potentially great local fight. That would be a tough one to call, because Manfredo has more skill but Duddy has more heart.

Duddy's gunning for 154 now.
Lee would destroy Peter.
5'9" vs. 6'2"???

I would agree, but who would have a thought that Lee would lose to Vera? Who knows what the KO did to his confidence. Lee had 3 inches on Vera, too. I know Duddy is gunning for 154, but at some point Manfredo/Duddy is going to happen a some point, even if it's a few years down the road. It will be a huge fight in New England. They both have big fan bases here and the Irish vs Italy angle always plays well.

Andy reckons that he wasn't fit....
Said he never felt right in that fight.
Could be ovrtraining or too many fights????
I've said Duddy Manfredo for a long time....It could be a very entertaining fight, but both would be best at 154.
-
Re: Has Manfredo's showing and seemingly new hunger changed any minds?
I think Andy Lee needs some more weight on him being 6'2-6'3 and only being 160 and a SKINNY 160 at that can't help his power or stamina.

I think he's skinny also and very skinny, but I feel he needs to develop more in terms of defense before heading toward heavy hitters.
