{ The Killers vs. The Strokes }
Who do you like?
These are currently my 2 fav. bands of recent times.
Both very original and both very talented.
Distinct voices.
Great lyrics followed by a great sound.
The Killers are more commercial now and The Strokes not so much.
I think the Strokes takes it in the lyrics department Is This It? is full of poetry and great writing by Julius. I will admit that The Killers matured a lot from Hot Fuss to Sam's town. Hot Fuss wasn't good lyrically IMO but wow what a difference with Samstown.
Sound The Killers takes it I think since Hot Fuss they were able to find their own tune and just go with it. I think it's great and it sets above other bands at the moment. Sam's town is full of great tunes like Bones which I think is brilliant tune.
The Strokes - Is This It?
I think the album is poetry man.. My fav. track on there is "Trying Your Luck"
The Killers - Hot Fuss
I think the sound is brilliant for this album and my fav. track on there "Midnight Show" proves just that.
The Strokes - Room on Fire
Again the lyrics are top notch and I think the sound/tunes of it improved proof of that is my fav. track on there "12:51".
The Killers - Sam's town
Fucken superb album and def. album of the year for me. They still sound great and they picked it up on the lyrics depertament proving to people they are not all about sound but can also write top quality music. Proof of that are "Read My Mind", "For Reasons Unknown" & "This River Is Wild".

The Strokes - 1st Impressions of Earth
This album was IMO not at all what The Strokes are about part of that was due to the break up from their producer. It has some good music, my fav. track on there is Juice Box.
The Killers are currently working on their album "Day & Age" and is due out in the following months before the end of the year.
The Strokes have taken loooooong overdue break from all this 2 yrs. I think. I believe they've started working on a new album but no further news on that yet.
So who's it gonna be The Killers or The Strokes?
Neither... ;D

I can' stand the Killers. The Stokes are ok at best, but I can't even listen to the Killers.

Stuff like Pantera, Sepultura etc. is definitely not for everyone. I like all sorts of music though, I don't just listen to that stuff. The Killers are a band I feel like I should like, and maybe I would've liked them a few years ago, but they just rub me the wrong way.
God do I ever loathe Megadeth though, can't stand that type of "metal".
Edit: Oh, and fuck Van Halen too.

Gotta go with the Killers. Both bands have a sound which doesn't try to fit in or ask what they should be, but to me simply are.
Not everyone is about lyrics, and I don't think it is even really all that necessary. It would sort of negate classical music wihich is timeless to suggest music requires good lyrics. But in this day and age, of hip hop, and trendy pop, where masses listen to what the words are and fashion themselves to them...I like something to think about. Not being told what is what. The Killers do this for me. The Strokes got a great simple raw sound, and are also smart.
So yea, I like em both too. But tip my hat as is noticable, a bit towards The Killers. :)

I like The Killers; real fond of Mr. Brightside, Read My Mind, and Somebody Told Me. They remind me of The Bravery.

I hate to hear songs where they are just rhyming words but not saying much.
I hate stupid lyrics I like songs that say something a story or theres a meaning.
One of the worst lyrics I've ever heared/read:
"So happy together, how is the weather"
WTF?
They just rhymed together with weather. That's fucken lame.

The Strokes easily IMO.
Nobody I know likes them but the first two albums are very good IMO. I actually liked the second one better I think. Probably has their best song, Reptilia. Third's a bit meh I agree.

Julius is an animal with lyrics man and Is This It? is top album.
I like 12:51 a little more then Reptillia but both quality songs...

I love the strokes, Juicebox, You only Live once, reptilia are some of my favourite songs. I get over the Killers pretty quickly, but can listen to the strokes all the time :)

I like both bands a lot.
I wasnt keen on Hot Fuss, though it did have some standout tracks. Mr Brightside, All these things Ive done, Jenny was a friend of mine. Sam's town is a step up IMO and really goes for the jugular. There only track that that falls short for me is Bones. Its a quality album full of hooks and melody.
Is this it? is a wonderful record. It sounds good, has an edgy feel to the production. Casablancas sounds like a stoned Lou Reed. It barely puts a foot wrong. Since then the Strokes have perhaps fallen back. Theyve made quality tracks, but not a truly cohesive album since the first.
Tough call to pick between the two though. Conpletely different sounds too.

For me music doesn't really fall into classifications.
I see it all as one genre and if something is good to listen too I listen to it.
This means I like a lot of rap, some dance or Techno, lots of Rock, a little metal and even some pop.
The Killers are a band that catch my ear. Not just with Mr. Brightside or Bones or Read my Mind, with every song.
Sams town was a marvellous album and they're at the top of their game supplying more.
I like the Strokes, but their hiatus has cost them their spot here.

They both suck. I suppose The Killers suck less. Both are vastly overrated. I've tried to like them and given them many chances, but I find the both very boring and unoriginal. The both tend to repeat the same meter and beats over and over. Almost every song is in the same key. They are lazy ass songwriters. When they bother to spend the time to work out melody and properly develop a song, they produce a few some good individual tracks, but god help me if I have to listen to a whole album.
Legion, you gotta be fuckin kiddin me, The Bravery? I saw them last year and literally walked out they were so bad. Shiny Toy Guns played before them and were 10x better, and I had never heard STG until that night. All they do is rip of 80's bands and do it poorly. One of there songs is pretty much a direct lift from New Order. The Bravery are so bad they make The Strokes and The Killers seem like Radiohead and The Clash in comparison.
Maybe I'm an old fart, but pretty much everything those bands do was done better already by somebody else. There are plenty of new bands I like, but I get bored real fast of straight quarter notes.

I order you to immediately buy the Stiff Little Fingers anthology, a couple of Clash and Buzzcocks albums and lock yourself in your room with it until you see the error of your ways. That being said I think The Killers and The Strokes are outside of that group.....Simple Plan, My Chemical Romance, AFI or any of the other EMO bands should all be loaded onto a rocket and shot into the Sun

What's that other band... Good Charlotte I think are all dumb asses.
Along with Panic At The Disco.
Those bands to me are 1 hit wonders who had 1 song hit the airwaves and think they've made it.
For me The Strokes & The Killers have proved to be MUCH more then that.

If The Killers and The Strokes were food, I could eat it to avoid starvation and maybe learn to enjoy it a bit over time, once I forgot what actual good food tasted like. Just like if you have never been to an actually good Italian restaurant, you might think the Olive Garden is good. Simple Plan, MCR, AFT, The Bravery - if they were food I would puke and eventually starve to death if nothing else were around.

I like The Killers and The Strokes more so than anything new that gets on the radio these days.
The emo punk, Green Day, Nickleback, Foo Fighters, and Finger Eleven's of this world are what's wrong with music. It's cookie cutter packaged and marketed bullcrap to tweens who have shit for brains.
The Killers and The Strokes at least have a different sound and aren't so forced on the populus
