ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
As most of you know I throw my opinion in every now and then these days because my time has been limited over the last 6 months, but everywhere I look I see people hating on this fight and I don't get it. I'd really like an explanation on why this is such a bad fight...
I don't recall people criticizing Hopkins for fighting Oscar even though Oscar started 6 weights below him. Is it an Oscar thing? Do people just want to see him retire so much? Even though his record for fighting world class fighters is second to none?
Think about it...Pac is now P4P #1 and one of the most exciting fighters on the planet. You have to give him credit for being willing to take this challenge but I doubt he'd be doing it if he thought he was going to end up flat on his back. I honestly believe he thinks he can win it and its not like Oscar isn't shop worn, inactive, and is possibly going to be drained making a welterweight. The height & weight difference isn't such a big deal either. One only has to look at Chagaev-Valuev I as a blueprint on how those physical advantages don't guarantee the W.
Plus, as much as many fans claim to hate Oscar so much, it doesn't stop you all discussing it and it'll make the average fan stand up and take notice of the sport again. Oscar shines the spotlight on the sport...how can you hate him for that?

Hope you saw and noticed my postings supporting this fight...

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
The weight disparity gives Oscar far too many advatages. If Manny wins, it will be a miracle. As well, I'm sick of Oscar. Time for him to go.

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
I'm looking forward to it big time, all the people saying they will boycott the fight because of Oscars physical advantages are nuts.
I want Oscar to go out with a bang after a great career but I also want Manny to pull off a seemingly impossible challenge, I personally see a close fight unless Oscar lands a peach of a shot, then Manny could be in trouble.
Gotta remember Freddie Roach has worked with Oscar so who knows what gameplan he has for Manny to execute.

Exactly!
Also, there are some guys in this forum who I always learn a thing or two but I am surprised to see these same people express themselves about ODLH and it makes me wonder where their boxing knowledge went to suddenly forget what he has brought to boxing, his accomplishments, the challenges he has taken, his resume, how he's not a loud-mouth prick, what he has given the fans, his boxing style, etc.
This fight should be more exciting than ODLH vs Mayweather, right? So why all the negativity?
-
Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
Yes, this should be a very entertaining fight because Manny is a punching machine, and I am pretty sure that this being Oscar's "last fight" he will try to be a "Mexican Macho". I believe that this will be the most probable scenario. My opinion is that it is not a coincidence that Oscar selected the smallest opponent with the biggest name. If Oscar wanted to retire as the best, then he should fight the best on his division. Why he did not select Margarito after his great performance against Cotto (that still hurts me, but Margarito was the best man) ? Even Cotto could be a choice, who was indicating to be available to fight by the end of this year. What bothers me of this fight is that I perceive De La Hoya trying to regain glory, but setting the stage, I see him trying to take the easy road, and if that is his thought this may be his mistake... But, I admit it will be a very interesting fight and although, Oscar should win, I see Manny landing his left hand solidly against Oscar's face. I also there are possibilities that Oscar may fall due to his overconfidence, hard for Manny, but possible...

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
Sorry... I've posted my reasons for hating this fight so many times, I'm even making myself sick.
;D
Maybe I'll start cutting and pasting my previous posts on these threads.

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
I'll only hate it if ODLH wins

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
The fights a charade. But I got no problem with it no more. If Pac really wants to see ICU that badly than let him. I'm paying and watching

That's the point exactly... My advice is watch the fight and cheer/root for PAC... In case PAC wins you will feel you're on top of the world... A heavy underdog doing the impossible... Priceless!!!
Who cares about Oscar? ;D

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
I think it was best summed up in another thread:
Oscar doesn't have the "cojones" to fight either Margarito or Cotto.
You can slice it.... you can dice it. You can put whatever spin you want on it. That is what it all boils down to. And that is what a huge percentage of boxing fans probably thinks. And the "money" excuse is pretty weak. Boxing is supposed to be about fighting the best... about making the most compelling matches. It's not like lil' old Oscar NEEDS the money. Sh*t.... I'd respect him a little more if he just admitted he's scared sh*tless to face a REAL welterweight.
Although I think an Oscar win is inevitable, I'll be rooting for Pacquiao to plant his Golden Boy face on the canvas.

This should be our general sentiment towards this fight... Cheer for Pacquiao to do the impossible... If he succeed, we're all happy and it's a priceless moment... If he fails :( ... no big deal, he lost to a bigger guy... ;)
But we can really expect PAC to give his best to win this fight and make it an entertaining and exciting fight... It's all worth the PPV money... Guaranteed... ;D

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
I strongly believe who ever wins this fight it will lure Mayweather back into the ring. Imagine if Pac beats DLH. We can get Mayweather/Pacquiao.

So either way it's a "no-win" situation for De La Hoya. Hmmm..... I'm starting to warm up to the idea.

yeah, preparation is the key. roach was even willing not to take a single cent if manny loses so he must know something we don't.

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
okay, SaddoBoxer you've convinced me that I should be supporting this fight for our boy Pacman.
I will be watching this fight and if I get a heart attack, you're the one to blame.;D;D;D
Pacquaio should start preparing now. Eat a lot of rice and kamote. He has 3 months to make himself bigger.;D

No worries, you won't have a heart attack... ;D
PAC will report to Wild Card Gym on September 12. It's a 12 weeks training camp... PAC normally does only 6 to 8 weeks training camp...

I wouldn't say that a fight that he will probably make about $100m from is a "no-win" situation!

Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
...if oscar wins, everyone will say so what, and he rides off with a lackluster win, if he looses than he just looks silly. Just like any fight i don't make the match-up's i just watch them.
-
Re: ODLH vs. Pac...why are you guys hating this so much?
I'm not going to lie and say I won't watch it, or have the usual goosebumps I do during the ringwalks whenever there's a big event, but the problem is that there's so many better matchups from a pure boxing standpoint than this. Fights between guys of roughly the same size.
DLH against a junior middleweight champ, or welterweights like Cotto, Margarito, Williams, etc...
Pacquiao against a Valero, Guzman, Soto, Marquez 3, etc...
I hope I'm wrong, but I think it might be a terrible mismatch due to size. DLH's been at 147 and above since 1997, while Pacquiao's had just one fight above 130.
When Pacquiao fought on the undercard of DLH-Castillejo six years ago, they were 32 pounds apart!!! The last fights, it's decreased to "only" 15.

It may not be the best match-up out there but it isn't the worst either...
