I dont know if lucky is the word.
But Jones career has been very cleaverly staged and after beating a shell of a Toney he took like 8yrs off. I still think if he had fought Nunn, McCallum, Benn, McClellon or Eubank he would have lost at least once.
I dont know if I can say Jones was lucky not to have met Nunn cuz IMO Jones is possibly the greatest ever so I think he would have won . He beat Hop and Toney and I think he probably would have outpointed Nunn too .
Having said that I reckon Nunn would have been a nightmare for him . Jones got Mcallum at the right time, He'd have stopped Benn and outpointed Eubank and Mclennan IMO but Nunn would have given him hell and it would be a close fight . Interestingly Collins said that if he were to meet Jones back in the 90s he probably would have lost . Prime Roy is just something else.
Watching Michael Nunn before the Iran Barkley fight he was something special and had great reflexes and handspeed that is up there with Roy Jones Jr........Quote:

They missed each other by the time Roy was ready, Nunn was on the downslide. So Nunn was lucky not to have fought Roy.
I think Roy would have KO'd him. Toney did and IMO he didn't hit as hard as Roy.
Would have been an interesting fight, but I think Roy would have taken it on points. Roy was a master of doing just what it took to win against really tough opponents (aka the Hopkins snoozefest).
I don't think Nunn was mentally tough enough to beat a prime RJJ.
I think Roy would have had the most trouble with Eubank but he would have pulled off a win.
I think McClellan showed that Benn was VERY beatable....the G-Man just let him back in the fight and stayed too close to him allowing for the repeated shots on the back of the head....Roy would have stopped him in 6-8. Benn's legs would have been shot from trying to walk Roy down and everytime he would get close he'd eat 4-5 power punches
You know what annoys me about the G-Man v Benn fight? The tragedy could have been avoided had the rules been followed by the book!Quote:

Um, te ruth is IO Roy in his prme was oe of the best and hardest to beat tht i have ever seen. I ee no reason as to hy Nunn would be such a tough fight for Roy at.
Just because Roy Jones looked unbeatable in his prime doesn't mean he wasn't beatable and i doubt many people have actually seen a prime Michael Nunn before the Iran Barkey fight..........Quote:

I think Roy Jones would have seriously problems with Michael Nunn's physical attributes along with his speed and everyone always brings up James Toney vs Michael Nunn but Michael Nunn was already into drugs by that time and was past his best and he was still beating James Toney up until he walked intro terrific left hook.
Nunn would be awkward at best but Roy always knew how to win and no body gave Roy Jones too much trouble in his prime. Montell was frustrating but he was still getting beat.

think that would of been proper harsh, DQ'd cos someone pushed him back

For those reasons I think Eubank would have only had 1 asset and that's speed and speed vs a PRIME Roy Jones Jr. really won't help much. I think Eubank is good early on and then fades late getting eaten up with counter shots.
Nigel Benn EARNED a DQ not only for being helped back int he ring but for hitting behind the head as often as he did! Roy Jones Jr. would have picked him apart but I still think James Toney would have had the best time with Benn, PERFECT style for James to abuse with his defense.
As for Nunn, I guess it's proper to compare him to Griffin, crafty southpaws who just couldn't stay consistent

Roy Jones Jr. was Superman. Speed Kills and Roy topped the most wanted list in the 90's.
I completely agree overall, but Eubank, Benn, and Collins were nowhere near the class of Michael nunn at his best, imo. You can't just completely write off and laugh hysterically at Nunn's chances like you can with Benn or Collins.Quote:

Noone really helped Benn back into the ring, and if a fighter is knocked outside the ropes I believe he has 20 seconds to make the count, not 10. There was definetly no contraversy on the count. HOWEVER, the way the ref handled the next couple minutes of action was disgraceful homecooking and Benn easily may have not made it out of the round otherwise imo. He was still extremely hurt for the next minute or so after the KD, and the ref clearly broke the action for far to long in several instances. Of course it happens in boxing, the outcome of this fight just makes people more bitter about it imo.Quote:

eubank, benn & collins never fought roy jones & i think the reason was that roy didnt wanna fight them.
eubank fought -watson, benn, collins, calzaghe
benn fought -watson, eubank, barkley, mcclellan, collins
collins fought-mcCallum, benn, eubank & before an injury was to meet calzaghe
based on this why wouldnt they wanna fight roy?

He was good, but neither his handspeed nor his reflexes were at Roy's level, they were good, but not quite that good.
Wow, I am glad half of you know nothing about Roy JOnes Jr. ... First of all none of those guys would fight him. WHen he was p4p king and before the Pazienza fight I believe he got HBO to try and get any fight made 60-40 against Eubanks, Benn, Hopkins, and a few others, or 70-30 against a few other guys people wanted to see him fight, and everybody turned it down. Nobody would fight Roy unless they got 50-50 which is basically saying they didn't want to fight him. You watch B-Hop negotiate with Roy he has always wanted 50-50, even when Roy was way more accomplished that is complete bs. Even Calzaghe wouldn't fight Roy in the states.Quote:
