This is great news believe it or not.
Mayweather Sr. is not only a skills coach he places incredible emphasis on conditioning and fitness.

Mayweather won't train him for anything less than a million, if Ricky's willing to shell that out then I'm sure he's willing to listen and be coached.

Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Interesting developements at team Hatton. First Graham out, then Kerry Kays (SP?) Now Floyd Snr in??????????
I think its a good move personally. Never been a fan of Billy Graham, seemed a good on top trainer but got the impression he was laking somewhat when the shit hit the fan.
We wont be seing Hatton doing a shoulder roll. Would be nice to see him catch some jabs though.

Hard to say on that,Ricky's fought that way his whole career, the old dog new tricks syndrome.
I mean some fighters can re-invent themselves,Hopkins went from a hard nosed clincher to more of an out sniper,we'll see if Ricky can switch it up.

Thats actually a common misconception.
Ricky hasn't fought the way he has for his entire career.
At domestic, European and even lower world level he was a fleet footed volume puncher with a great left hook to the body.

This is true and if we can get even a bit of this Ricky back for a few fights its going to be interesting :)

It would be nice to see a bit of that speed back in the Malignaggi fight, wouldn't it?

If i was Ricky Hatton's trainer i would teach him peak a boo style so he uses more head movement as he is coming in because lately his chin is up in the air and he just comes in with no real gameplan or defense also get rid of those lunging hooks i hate it when he does that and thats why he got caught with check left hook against Floyd Mayweather Jr because he lunges in without defense........
And also get him to use his boxing skills more as Donny said he has good boxing skills when he uses them so i think Floyd Mayweather Sr needs to get him back into rhythm of using his boxing skills and also use his jab more he has a pretty solid jab when he uses which i haven't seen in awhile.

Bronze medal in the world games as an amateur (and he was robbed of that fight) for sure he's got skills.
The jab is a problem with his elbow condition.

For Rick's first Thirty Professional fights he was all speed.
Have a look at the Tackie, Magee, Holbaek-Pedersen and his domestic fights.

He allways looks to me like he's timing for a big shot. Not that theres anything wrong with that if you can do it. Foreman made a career out of it. Im just not sure if its going to mesh with the Mayweather snipe and move style.
I mean hey,I hope it does, I like Ricky as a fighter and want him to do well, but its definitly odd bedfellows

Its true but if they compliment one another I'd be glad to see it.
Remember the original odd couple;
Angelo Dundee Muhammad Ali

Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Mayweather joining Hatton makes for a good story.
His verbal exchanges with Powderpuff will help sell the fight too ;)
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Floyd Senior wont try to reinvent Ricky. He'll simply work on some of the fundamentals that i think Hatton lacks. The footwork being most obvious. At this stage of his career Hatton is what he is, Floyd Sr. just needs to correct a few things to get him where he needs to be. Get him to catch some punches with his gloves, move his head and show some angles and Hatton will be improved dramatically.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Good move by Hatton showing that he still wants to learn. He will be going in the ring with a proper game plan for once.Gonna look funy tho with Mayweather snr in his corner just carnt imaging it.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Good choice for Ricky now he can polish up that defense. Maybe use the jab a bit more.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Can you teach an old dog new tricks ?
doubt it.
it all reminds me of when Naz went to Manny Stewart and IMO he fucked his unusual style up by trying to turn him into a conventional boxer.

Good point just think Naz thought he new best and wasnt bothered about learning where Hatton will be willing to learn.

Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Said it before, way to late for Hatton.
IF he beats malinagi he shoud fight the geezer whos name always slips me (the one who beat witter) and call it a day.
There is nothing out there, and nobody he could match at WW.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Well bad move imo, similar to what Saddo said, you cant get much more different to Billy Graham than Mayweather Snr.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Hopefully Mayweather Snr is good for hatton.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
This is the WORST career move Hatton has ever made....I think he loses vs Malinaggi no doubt!
Ricky has been a come forward brawler for his entire career and now he's suddenly going to be a counter punching boxer with great defense?!?!?!
It's beyond ridiculous
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
i think hatton should still be a brawler but mix it up a bit. i know one thing for sure he will be faster

Common misconcerption.
Ricky has not always been a brawler.

Ricky never needed a game plan, not until he fought Kostya anyway and since then he has done the same smothering in almost all his fights. It was a great gameplan for Tszyu but why he has mauled just the same since with guys he could outbox anyway I don't know. He never seemed to listen to Billy Graham in the last couple of years, just do his own thing which seems to be hit, hold, wrestle, hit again "BREAK" hit, hold etc...
I remember when he used to move side to side to find his opponents body and mix his punches amazingly to break down his foes, I really miss that Ricky Hatton, he was 3-4 times more exiting prior to the Tszyu bout.
I'd like to see him try NOT fighting 3 minutes of every round and wasting energy as a means to prolong his longevity in the sport. Lets see what old Floyd can do with him, it would be great to see a different Ricky this time out, maybe use his gloves rather than his head to block shots;D

A good valid post.

Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Wow this should be an interesting pair-up... Not really sure how this will turn out. Ricky is an agressive fighter, who just hired a defensive master.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
I hope it wont take the agressive style out of him just remind him how to fight on the inside like he used to,and to improve his defence cause that isnt the greatest. Not sure if he can do that in 12 weeks tho.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Really looking forward to seing what influence Snr has on Hattons game. Plenty of people thought that Hatton would go with Beard, pay him peanuts and wind down his career. The fact that he's going with Mayweather who will command a big fee can only suggest that he's deadly serious about the remainder of his career.
Forget shoulder rolls, he isnt going to turn him into Floyd, just stop him from being Tex Cobb.
Looking forward to the fight even more now.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
This may be a clue to a re-match with Floyd i reckon;D
Seriously though he was blinkered by loyalty and should have f*cked Graham off ages ago, just seems a little late in the day for all this.
Maybe Hatton knows already that he's next in line to fight the winner of Pac/Oscar ;)
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Does anyone remember when Oscar De la Hoya got Floyd Sr. to train him? The first fight he had was vs Fernando Vargas and Vargas was whipping Oscar's ass for the majority of that fight and ODH just looked like an average fighter until he reverted back to what he does best.
Ricky is going to lose vs Malinaggi

I just cant see Ricky loosing to Paulie, imo he is not that good. I think Ricky will rough him up and take a wide UD.
Ricky should then maybe fight one super fight and the only super fights are with Lightweigths.
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Paulie might not be anything great but let's look at facts.
RICKY: he's looked bad in his last couple of fights, he's weight drained and has bad stamina, he gets out of shape between fights, and he's been a brawler too long to learn to box like Mayweather Sr. will want him to at least when the fight is a couple months away.
Paulie: he has good stamina, he's got quick hands, he moves very well, he is a very good defensive boxer, and he has a great chin.
Simple to see why I say Malinaggi will win

Malignaggi's last couple of fights have been terrible too???

The biggest problem with Malinaggi is he cant punch for shit!! so Hatton has nothing to fear he can run in face first and smash the shit out of his head on body
i see Pauie maybe skimming a few early rounds maybe a late one if Ricky gets tired on smacking the hair extensions off his head
But Ricky wins this by wide UD
This is if the best paulie turns up if the puff who fought Na du turns up Ricky by stoppage rd 6
-
Re: F.Mayweather Snr To train Hatton!
Well Paulie can move and he can take punishment....he can't punch for anything but he can score points and he has decent stamina
