Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
If your punch resistance is evidently fragile - as in you get hurt by NON-punchers when getting hit anywhere above the neck - that means you have a glass/weak/china chin, right?
There's not such a thing as a glass/weak/china TEMPLE fighter, right?
If you can't take a shot you can't take shot. And that's all she wrote. Fact.

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
There's something to be said about how/where the punch lands though. Look at Mundine, badly ko'd by Ottke on a punch to the temple that didn't look all that impressive, yet he was able to withstand flush shots from a guy like Kessler, who has way more power than Ottke.

Yea but how do you explain this Fenster Anthony Mundine was KO'ed witha temple shot from a light hitter like Sven Ottke but managed to survive a 12 round wat against a big puncher in Mikkel Kessler.........
I understand what your saying but your wrong in some aspects because its well known fact if you get hit in the temple with a hard shot the chances are quite high your lights are going out even if it isn't against a big puncher and it doesn't mean you have a weak punch resistance either.......
Even Antonio Margarito was staggered from a temple shot from Daniel Santos............
Lol CFH just looked at your post and you was thinking the same as me thats exactly how i feel aswell.

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
Yeah.. there's probably "freak" shots that have a marked effect on iron-chinned fighters - Gatti put Ward on queer street with a punch around the ear area - if i remember right.
Mundine turned into a very defensive minded fighter though. Did Kessler really cream him throughout their fight? Mundine fights like a "scared to get hit" fighter.

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
Tell me of some iron-chinned fighters that have been visibly shaken by temple shots?

Kessler didn't "cream" him, but he hit him with some flush right hands that would've dropped/stopped a glass-chinned fighter.

I think Mundine had learnt to run.
So.. you think Mundine isn't glass-chinned even though he was KO'd by a proper powderpuff in Ottke?
That is Interesting. :scratchchin:

Never under estimate a solid temple/ear shot :fight:.Seems your mind is still right but the system shorts out.

Antonio Margarito against Daniel Santos, Marvin Hagler against Thomas Hearns.

What I'm saying is that I don't think it is as simple as that. Mundine still has some question marks around his chin because of the Ottke fight and probaby always will. However, he can't be all that fragile as he'd fought some decent punchers since that fight and has yet to be stopped.

The only thing china related about Margarito are some of his home electronics.

From what I've seen, I wouldn't describe Santos as a "tremendous puncher" in the vein of a Tomas Hearns.

Come on CFH, don't be so pedantic.. Santos doesn't compare with Hearns but is a seriously HARD hitter.
A lesser fighter than Margarito would have been in SERIOUS trouble - from that "temple shot" - had he not a granite CHIN!!! ;)

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
I always hear about how strong Margarito was coming on against Santos (not just from Spicoli) but unless I was seriously drunk, didn't Santos have one of his best rounds of the fight right before it was stopped. Seems to me that before that Margarito was coming on but then Santos had that big round and then it was stopped. I could have been drunk, etc.
Apparently I have nothing to add to the actual thread Fenster created.

Well in all fairness, seems there is something in common there.I to was shite canned that night ;D.I actually did give Santos that round 9 but it was more in the body language Imo,You could see Margarito hitting that stride & he had him languishing on the ropes and Santos seemed a bit labored.I also think the ref blew a KD call in the 4th off the ropes,Santos was doing a lot of complaining and looked to go down from a right to body ??Santos was doing very well, dont get me wrong......pretty shifty in style. But Shame the cut brought it to a anti climatic close.;D

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
I don't really remember it that well. I've only watched it once, live. And I just vaguely remember thinking Santos had gotten it together right before it was stopped. Whether he would have kept it together is beyond me.

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
There was a fighter in the 30's called Terry "Iron Nose" Burns.
FICTION!
-
Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
To be honest at world level even the weaker punches still have enough power to put most out if they connect properly. Obviously there are exceptions...(Paulie with his bad hands).
I remember when Mayweather shook Oscar when Oscar was supposed to be much the bigger hitter. If you catch somebody just right...anything can happen.
Of course when your chin is weak and your defence is even weaker then you're sailing a sinking ship.

Very witty - you deserve some rep for that (when it allows).

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
In my experience, getting knocked out has most to do with getting hit by a punch that you did not see coming.
-
Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
"Amir Khan" (adjective) - a boxer having a chin more fragile than a glass. ;D ;D

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
Jesse Feliciano vs. Mike Arnoutis.
Before this fight Feliciano was be compared with Chuvalo in terms of chin.

Re: Definition of a Glass/weak/china CHIN!!!
Sure there are are freak punches that do more damage than should.
Guys like Hagler/MArciano not only had god given talents to absorb punches, but also kept there chins tucked in, and crucially wouldn't panic as they knew that some big shots would get through, keeping composure so not to be vulnerable to the follow up which knocks your head off.
Guys like Hearns and Lewis have been mentioned over the last couple days, true they didn't have granite chins but they certainly weren't glass. Not everyone who isn't Hagler/Chuvalo/.. should immediately be classed in the same bracket with guys who get wobbled frequently by club fighters of a smaller weight class. Like Ono said, higher up the ranks the punches are naturally heavier regardless of records.
