Will Andy Murray topple Federer ? He looked superb against Nadal. But I'm going for Federer in a thrilling 5 setter :D
I'm going for Federer to win in straight sets in around an hour and 10 mins, probably 6-3, 6-4, 6-1
Murray by TKO
lets no forget federer has has an extra day to recover from his last match which could play a big factor in tonights match.. on current form Murry is defo playing the better tennis, and im going to tip him to win a close match..
i was going to say that, he must be having a wind up...
i would be very surpised if murrey didnt at least take 1 set to a tie break
I got Fed winning this. Too bad he has one extra day of rest; he's been on the down side of that issue before in slams and has still prevailed. I can hear the excuses already:shakehead:;D
Now that he won't have Nadal haunting the court he will play a superb game. His forehand is still missing alot, but that backhand he has found again and has looked great. Go Federer!!!
I'll be happy for Andy though if he wins; a good kid and playing like a champ right now.
I am also disappointed Marat Safin didn't get further in the tournament; I was hoping he would get to the finals. Talk about someone who didn't live up to the hype:p
Also Lefty, when was the last time you saw Nadal bending over with hands on knees gasping for air? This year finally caught up to him and he looked ragged. Last time I saw him like that was against David Ferrer in last years U.S. Open:p
he was stuggling yeh, but there was still nothing he could do to stop murray
I'm going with Federer also on this one, I won't be bummed if Murray takes it though. If he wins wont it be like his 4th or 5th US open vitory?
??
Actually some geezer, I think Bill Tilden??, won 6 in a row in like 1768 or something; though it's different as it wasn't in the Open Era.
Yeah I was talking about Fed. The guy is just unbelievable. I was kinda hoping Nadal was going to be playing him in the finals so Fed could get revenge from the French open and Wibledon losses to Nadal.
Yeah he is undoubtedly one of the greatest players ever; though 2008 has been a sh#t year and it can't be blamed on mononucleosis solely. Guys are getting better and powering through him; plus it seems he's lost a step with missing shots he used to be able to make in his sleep.
And Nadal has buried into his mind like a tick on a coonhound;D I still say he beats Sampras' record, though he'll never win a French Open unless Nadal breaks his legs. And Murray will explode next year; so 1 more guy he'll have to deal with. Tsonga and Monfils and especially Tipsarevic are going to give all these guys fits in the next couple of years as well.
Well ; Federer is in top form; missing some backhands but smashing that forehand beautifully; as of now a set and 2 breaks up in the second. Making it look easy. Poor Andy; hope he wins one set{not really};D
If Murray breaks here...game on.
He got hosed on a bad call. Shoulda been a break.
Yeah, the whole system isn't efficient; but here's the thing, Murray kept playing on and then when he lost the point he wanted to b#tch about it. He should have stopped play right then and challenged and he would have won the game. You can't go back and challenge after you finished the point out. Linespeople don't see every ball, they are human, but there has to be a better way for sure. Everyone has bad calls against them.
This is turning into a good match. The wind is affecting roger and his serve moreso than Andy; and Fed is missing alot of forehands again:shakehead: I almost hope Andy takes this set so I don't have to listen to Mary Carillo and McEnroe b#tch about how Andy:shakehead: got ripped because of that bad game point call. Roger better win this or i'm emailing him and telling him he sucks donkey balls:furious2:
2 sets to 0; maybe he can get this in straight sets, though I want it to go 5 just because no tennis for a few weeks after this.
This is over. 3 straight sets. Fed on fire now.
Yeah; if Andy comes back from this props to him.
I feel bad for Murray:p I was hoping for a better outing from him; but this is just embarassing. Nothing to be ashamed about; he's done very well this year.
Wow! No clue there were this many Tennis fans in Saddo!
Federer is scary good right now!
I guarantee Federer lets his legs fall under him when he wins
 That made my day. I'm very glad Roger at least was able to salvage part of the year and go out with at least one Slam. :domo-kun:
Federer has been getting a lot of sh*t for having a supposed "bad year." He lost in the semis in the Australian, the finals in the French and Wimbledon, and won the US Open. If that's an off-year, I want to be him!
If it wasn't for the hectic summer Nadal had, I honestly think he would've won this tournament.
Usually, when you become the best at something, (Kobe, Mayweather, etc.) you get a bunch of haters. But when it comes to Federer, I have yet to hear anyone say anything negative. He is exactly what the face of a sport should be.
Well I said 6-3 6-4 6-2 and it was actually 6-2 7-5 6-2 so approximately what I though, a straight sets drubbing for our Andy.
Good, let him fuck off back to Spain again now, I coulnd't have stood all the hero worship and adulation that would have been forthcoming from the British media had he won.
The best result by far.
He is one of the reasons for my interest in the sport. I don't play tennis much, but appreciate excellence in any sport, especially when it is coupled with a class act. Much as Tiger Woods is for me and golf.
They deserve the recognition and respect for both the atleticism and how they conduct themselves around it. Being hella fun to watch them working too doesn't hurt the interest.
Tennis is a great sport to be into nowadays. Most of the best players on tour right now are young. Federer is considered to be one of the older guys and he's only 27!!
There's a lot to watch when it comes to the best players and their abilities. Federer and his ability to hit difficult shots and make it look easy, Nadal and never letting anyone get an easy point, Roddick and his serve, and Sharapova and just sitting back and looking at her...

I don't deny Nadal had a hectic year; but Federer's was just as hectic and also the mono issue had him reeling for the 1st 4 or 5 months of this year, if not longer from what some people say, as it's hard to fully recover from something like that with traveling and playing so many tournaments. All the top guys are tired though by now; and Nadal's style of aggressive play isn't conducive to remaining fresh at the end of the year.
I don't think Nadal could have matched Fed today, as Roger was in top form. Nadal has been playing well in the tournament, but he also had an easy draw and wasn't tested as hard early IMO. Also, don't forget hardcourt is still Nadal's worst surface to play on, and is one of Roger's best.
With that said, Nadal may have beat Roger just by being across the court from him; as Nadal has quickly creeped into Roger's head, so who knows how Roger would have mentally handled his "nemesis" again in a final. I still think Roger would have won as he was in great form today, and when he plays his best he is still the best player out there, except on clay{where he is still the 2nd best player}.
I'm just surprised Murray didn't show better.
Damn i missed it. A slam final is as good as a big fight, the superbowl, NHL finals, world series etc.
As for Fed, the best ever. He's got about 6 years to tie/beat Pete's 14 slams. Ya godda think he'll do it. And as much as I admired Pete (and Andre, for that matter), there's nothing quite like witnessing history in the making.
Unfortunately it wasn't an epic match; Roger pretty much dismissed him easily. Still; like you said, it is a Slam and like you I love the moment. I reckon Fed can win at least 4 or 5 more Slams. Going to have it tough though with the guys out there. Tipsarevic is going to rain on alot of parades next year.
