Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
I know his promoter Frank Warren is a prick but i always have found Khan a down to earth sort of young bloke.
He may say a few over the top things now and again but so do most people.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
I don't dislike Khan.
I don't like the idea of a millionaire prospect fighting a no-name on PPV though. So was very pleased to see a whole bunch of greedy conners get well and truly booted in the nuts.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Him calling out the top lightweights when he can't get past domestic level. Ducking Thaxton and Romanov. Having a glass jaw. His last fight was aired on PPV, pure robbery.

That covers it for me too.
Better than Hamed? He must have been talking about Riath.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
With Kahn it was obvious from day one he had severe inadequacies in terms of his chin.
Yet matchmaking allowed him to continue without suffering the consequences. The soft touches Kahn was fed became apparent and the boxing faithful were and still are disgustred when forced to listen to his claims of greatness.

I'm in this camp.
From what I hear he's a decent guy, and he was giving a lot of exposure to boxing in the mainstream in britain. But ppv took the piss, and it was satisfying to see him get a bit of a reality check.
I actually hope he does come back better, so long as he genuinely progresses and that the public isn't conned to four years of ppv against stiffs while they're being sold as world beaters. Just a bit of honesty and admit he'll be learning at a couple steps below world level until he's ready to step up again.
-
Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Thinking that he's rubbish is not the same as disliking him. Personally I quite like him and I'd love to see him go and have a hugely successful career, not least because there's nobody else on the horizon as far as British boxing is concerned. This will be impossible however due to the fact that his jaw is constructed out of the finest crystal. So when all the hype came into contact with reality it invited a certain amount of scorn and derision, which is quite understandable considering his past (and current) statements re. winning world championships etc.

Frank Warren does the match making for Khan and it was him not Khan that did not want the fights with Thaxton and Romanov.
How can you dislkike sombody for having a glass jaw? Its about the only part of the body you cant train or improve.:p

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Not sure about this site but practically every person i have spoken to about him (who live near me) don't like him because he is Asian. That is always the first reason they don't like him. Then they tend to add on the fact that he is arrogant and he's fought bums.
Obviously that's not a great advert for Leeds as a town but that's just the way it is around here. I started a thread about it around 18 months ago and got shot down as the above was apparently a ridiculous reason and therefore couldn't possibly be true. I agree it is a ridiculous reason and believe me, it is true! It's shit and i can't stand that way of thinking....but as i say, i can only speak of where i live and i have spoken to a lot of people about Khan and have pretty much got the same response.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
also i think it is how much money he has earnt already for what he has done, cant blame him for that tho

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Ive never disliked Khan per se,Ive allways taken a wait and see attitude toward him
-
Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
I don't understand all the hate directed at him either. He hasn't said or done anything that hundreds of other prospects haven't said before him. I understand disliking Warren, and I think a lot of the anger is due to that, but I also wonder if a lot of it is due to racial/religious reasons (though no one would admit it). Is it also possible that he reminds people of Hamed somehow?
All this gloating etc. that has happened since he got KO'd has actually caused me to start cheering for Khan, even though I've seen 1 1/2 of his fights and know next to nothing about him. I'm hoping he can bounce back and win a title, proving all his detractors wrong.
I don't really understand all the anger about the PPV either. If you don't agree with it, then don't buy it and vote with your wallet, it's pretty fucking simple. There are ways to watch those fights without paying for them anyways.

Problem is PPV's are killing the sport, lets face it,that should have been an ESPN/Friday Night Fights sort of fight Khan hadnt done enough to justify a PPV
Having seen the era when boxing was one of the top sports in this country, well ahead of Basketball for popularity two things have killed the sport,PPV,and Casino fights.
Its penny wise, and pound foolish,to get fans for the sport, casual fans have to be able to see the fighters. It used to be even if you didnt have alot of money you could pony up a little money for a nose bleed seat at the Spectrum,or watch it at home.
Good luck affording a ticket at the Borgata,or affording the PPV,Boxing is really a poor mans sport, that poor men cant watch anymore

I think thats pretty strong comment and wrong one at that what has race got to do with it ? just because few idiots think that way doesn't mean *alot* of people think that way the fact is Amir Khan is an arrogant moron saying he could beat Floyd Mayweather over 4 rounds plus his 1.5 percent body fat or whatever it was

And its nothing to do with race i just don't like him end of and Amir Khan/Frank Warren have been conning the public it actually made me feel a bit sick when i see Amir Khan posing with all great fighters on a poster behind him.

I don't disagree about the PPV's or ticket prices, but that isn't an issue confined to Khan's situation. Plenty of fights that shouldn't be on PPV are, for higher prices than what Warren was charging to see the Khan match. If there's a market for it, promoters are going to make as much money as they can.
I've never seen people so pissed off about a PPV (which anyone with an internet connection could've watched for free), their anger had more to do with who was fighting and promoting the card than the fact that they had to pay if they wanted to see it.

This is the single most reason why people dislike him. The fact that he's Muslim doesn't help his fan support either.
If he was any other race and/or religion he wouldn't be getting 1/4 of the hate that he generates right now, plain and simple.

Yeah, and maybe this just speaks to Khan's popularity/notoriety, but there was nowhere near as much anger directed at Holyfield as there was a Khan.

Trust me,I was way more bent about Holyfield, mind you I had good reasons, the guy is only a few years removed from having his liscence yanked for incompetence, fights so dirty he makes Hopkins look like a Choir Boy,and they wanted me to pay 30$ to watch him fight a scrub?
Khan running his mouth before he'd ever beaten anybody legit probably didnt help either,at least get a bigger name on your record even if its a spent name before you start yapping

The PPV was £14.99 the same price as Hatton-Floyd, Tyson-Lewis etc.. All PPV's are bollocks. Ones between a prospect and a guy not even HARDCORE boxing fans knew was beyond taking the piss.
Not everyone is happy to sit in front of a computer watching a pony stream.. especially when you pay a monthly subscription to watch SPORT (which is meant to include boxing) on TV.

I know what you mean that ppv isn't confined to Khan, but he's the first guys i've known to be on ppv when not even close to world level.
It was such a dissapointment, Khan's fights were becoming a huge draw in the pubs in britain ons Saturday nights, coupled with the success of Calaghe/Hatton the sport was on the up. Granted it's not all his fault, ITV blew its budget on the crazy national obsession with football.
But even with a smaller budget I don't see how khan's team think they are worth so much money per appearance as they're asking for. This is an issue I have with many fighters, milking as uch money as possible from meaningless fights, which is why i've also gone off ODLH and Hatton big time, from being fans of them. Guys like Vasquez and Marguez don't do it, and I don't see why the others get away with it.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Khan is disliked by people for many reasons.
Being British, being overhyped, can be cocky, and unfortunately because he is Muslim. Personally i think he is a real nice guy who is quite talented but just lacks a chin and defense.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
Its got nothing to do with colour.
Joe Calzaghe is disliked by loads of people on this site, he's white.
Antonio Tarver is disliked equally, he's black.
Audley Harrisons yellow and he's disliked by all!

I like him i just wanted him brought back to earth he was believing his own hype and i was sick of them ramming him down our throats. I will continue to follow him and hopefully he will win a world title just hope next time he PPV its because he world champ or he is fighting for a world title.

Re: Why is Amir Khan so disliked on this site?
I do appreciate the negativerep leftylee. Maybe it was deserved but the punch that he was hit with from Prescott was bomb I don't give a damn what anyone says. I never mentioned anything from the Drilzane fight because I never seen it. IF you like to see what a glass jaw looks like check out a fighter named Bruce " the mouse " Strauss. He will make Amir Khan's jaw look like granite.
