Holt vs Torres III in the works
This appeared as part of Dan Rafael's of ESPN.com, Notebook today.
ESPN - Notebook: Williams believes he will be a successful middleweight - Boxing
• A third bout between junior welterweight titlist Kendall Holt and ex-belt holder Ricardo Torres is under heavy discussion. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com that he's talking with Showtime about putting the fight together for December, and offers have been extended to both fighters. Arum said the target date is Dec. 5 in Las Vegas on the eve of De La Hoya-Pacquiao. In their first meeting in Torres' native Colombia in September 2007, Torres retained a belt via a controversial 11th-round TKO in a fight in which fans pelted the ring all night with debris. In the July rematch in Las Vegas, Holt claimed the title with a savage first-round knockout in a wild 61-second fight. Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) was down twice before knocking Torres (32-2, 28 KOs) cold after an accidental head butt. Showtime was booked for the rest of the year, but Arum said that when Joan Guzman failed to make weight for his fight last week with Nate Campbell, it meant Showtime, which didn't have to pay for it, suddenly had money left in the budget. "I guess fortunately for us, Guzman saved them a lot of money," Arum said.
---------------------------------
I hope this comes off, especially since the 2nd fight ended so quickly.
You couldn't have asked for more, for a less than 1 round fight! I felt bad for Torres, since a head butt to the chin started his knock out.
You guys may want to go and read the rest of the stories in the notebook.

Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
It for certain should happen both men now have controversial wins over eachother. So hopefully a 3rd fight will settle the score without controversy, i think Torres wins the 3rd fight by TKO by the way.
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
Sounds good to me.
The WBO declined Torres appeal for the 2nd fight.
So now a 3rd fight I think will settle it once and for all.

I don't think there was anything controversial about the 1st fight.
Holt complained about"
- Hostile enviroment
- Objects being thrown
- Uncontrolled/Rowdy crowd
Uuuuummm!! It's a fucken boxing event in Colombia, what did he expect a church choir and formal dinner?
I did NOT see anything there that I haven't seen before. Holt was just looking for an excuse IMO.

I disagree i have only seen the fight once, but the crowd were disgraceful throwing beer cans at Holt and one even hit him didn't it ? and this was just after he floored Torres. It would of had a serious impact on his concentration.

As I said I did not see anything there that I haven't seen in other fights.
Have you seen Valero-Mosquera?
Do you remember what the crowd was like for that?
On par with Holt-Torres there were even people who got past security and were yelling at Valero from the ringside.
Valero still went on to win.
How about Eubanks-Rocchigiani do you remember the crowd for that?
And that was just for the walk ins... ;D

This fight must go ahead. I'd pay to see a re-run of no.2. Controversial ending? Yes. Entertaining? Yes. what more do you want?

I think i've seen Valero vs Mosquera was that the fight where Valero got knocked down ? can't remember Eubank vs Rocchigiana, but as i said Mick i believe the crowd did effect the concentration of Holt. Imagine your boxer and you got the crowd throwing beer cans at you ? thats got to have a serious effect mentality wise. Maybe it wouldn't have made of difference i don't know all i do know is that both fights were controversial, and whoever wins the 3rd meeting should settle the score.

Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
That was a vicious KO that Torres suffered. I think he should take a little more time off.

Well of course crwods come into play.
Why else are they there...
Crowds chant, cheer, sing, beat drums, throw paper airplanes, fire works.
Holt made it seem like it was something out of this world or something unseen before. All it was, was a rowdy crowd something that's been seen before.

I think he'll be fine, the fight was early July.
The fights scheduled for Dec. that's about 5 months...
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
Holt must control the pace of the fight. If he lets Torres do it he will get knocked out
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
I duno who to root for in this fight cuz Holt got screwed in the 1st fight but Torres got screwed in the 2nd
May the best man this in the decider.

Well its probably one of the worst crowd's i've ever seen in a championship fight, i know all about rowdy crowds but this was totally different. How many fights have you seen where one fighter knocks the other fighter down, then gets beer cans thrown at him ? and infact one did hit him. I don't care who you are that would effect anyone badly mentally just think what would of happened had he won ? as i said it may or may not of made any difference but it certainly didn't help did it ?

Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
For starters you got all wrong. You keep saying Holt dropped Torres.
It was the other way around, Torres drops Holt and that's when the crowd goes crazy in the eleventh round.
So that arguement about Holt dropping Torres and then being dristracted is wrong. Unless the object your talking about was thrown in the 6th round which is when Holt drops Torres. But how would an object distract him when he's not the one on the canvas?
I'm not saying it wasn't a rowdy crowd, it was more then rowdy.
All I'm sayin is I don't see how that crowd was any different from others I've seen. Again I keep going back to old fights I mean how about fights out here at the Olympic grand wher the crowd used to throw money at fighters during fights?
I just think Holt and his Team used that as their way out of it...

I was talking about the 6th round when Holt dropped Torres then the crowd started throwing beer cans into the ring and one hit Holt as i remember like i said i've only seen the fight once but thats how i remember it. As i said Mick it may not of made any difference but it still would of effected anyone mentally, but as i see it they both have controversial wins over eachother and the 3rd fight should settle it but knowing these two who knows what will happen next ?

Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
Well so much for my Torres/Urango dream street fight match;D
Very glad they are doing this again.A touch of controversy in both and a solid conclusion will be good.Torres has made his ability to Flatten Holt with one shot obvious, respect to holt who did not run from an apparent ending but took the initative to go for it and returned the favor....sort of :-X.Its speculation as to what "Might" have happened later on but it's pretty clear the head butt clash inflicted serious damage.Holt should not bring too much of a punchers mentality off that 2nd go,fight smart!
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
Aftera quick second fight a third fight would be welcoming
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
I think this fight is a must. There's a lot of circumstances regarding the first 2 fights. In the first fight the beer cans getting launhed in the ring. In the second one the headbutt incident. So a 3rd fight should clear things up once and for all.
For most fights were fighters are tied 1-1 a triology must happen. However a third fight between Paul Williams-Carlos Quintana and Sergio Mora-Vernon Forrest are an exception. Williams and Forrest both showed they had an off night in the first bout while taking the rematch with ease.
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
yeah a third fight should definetly happen, I think Torres stops him in about 3 rounds, it'll be similar to the second fight without Torres getting reckless and loafed
-
Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
...is torres finally awake ?? I hope holt ko's him and his cheating ass brother with one punch.

Re: Holt vs Torres III in the works
The 1st was definitely controversal! Holt had Torres down in the 6th then gets hit in the head/ face with a can. It could have been all over for Torres right there & then had that not happened!
Plus someone was trying to grab Holts leg in Torres' corner, that should have been a DQ right there!
But Holt got his revenge although not without some contoversy itself with the headbutt.
So a 3rd is really a must & would be a must see IMO!
For the record I think Holt KO's Torres again! But expect fireworks!!!
