What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
With all the talk of a Holt-Torres III match there obviously comes the talk of the crowd behaviour in the first fight when beer cans and other things were thrown and so on. But what is the worst piece of crowd behaviour ever?
My vote would be for the British crowd when Hagler beat Minter for the MW title. It was a disgrace and its a shame us Brits never seem to learn!
Also one other that springs to mind is the parachuter (or whatever he was) in the Bowe-Holyfield II match. I know he wasn't exactly a member of the crowd but he certainly became involved lol.

Agreed... First thing that came to mind was Hagler/Minter... I was apauled!
I'd have to say, to turn the coin for a moment, the most awesome thing that I've seen was when the fan man got mauled by the crowd. That prick deserved that beating!

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Wasn't Foreman involved in protecting Larry Merchant in the melee that ensued after the Maskaev/Rahman fight?

He is actually dead now according to HBOs legendary nights.

l
First one that popped into my mind. I understand the crowd being disappointed that their man got whipped, but watchin a future HOF and one of if not the greatest MW of all time not being able to celebrate his first title in the ring and being pelted with various debrit is just disgraceful.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
This is not on par with the previous ones mentioned, but people booing Katsidis after the Diaz fight was just lame, especially after he said "Texas has a great champion and true warrior in Juan Diaz" he was being humble and respectful of course his trainer was being a douche, but this is just the way things are I guess.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
I think Bowe-Golota I takes the cake in this one.
-
Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Their has been so many but Hatton vs mayweather the Booing from us british fans was unreal same as Manfredo vs Calzaghe as a country were a bit of a joke:mad:

That reaction completely ruined the moment for Hagler.
I'm going to add the very recent booing of the US National Anthem during the Mayweather vs Hatton fight.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Holt Torres one in Columbia. They were throwing stuff in the ring during the fight. The same thing happened during a big title fight in IIRC Mexico in the 1970s. I remember seeing Harry Carpenter showing it for a couple of minutes on Sportsnight, for all you old bastards out there that remember stone age pre-satellite TV sport. :)

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
I can't remember which fight but once the crowd was cheering for Zab Judah.
It made me sick.
The only thing worse was Zab vs PBF. You're screwed either way. I found myself cheering for a double knockout.;D

Honestly, I think stuff like that is relatively mundane. It's not like they were throwing bottles at PBF as he came to the ring or anything.

I gotta agree with the Hatton vs Mayweather crowd as well. The Hatton fans were really annoying. Not only were they booing but I remember them playing instruments or music (how is that even legal???).

Eubanks-Rocchigianni
Valero-Mosquera
JCC-Haugen
Quiroga-Anifowoshe
Holt-Torres I
Bowe-Golota (Really sucks to see Duva taken out in a stretcher. :( and almost dropped. On the flip side whoever thru the Cherry Slurpee on Golota has a great aim. ;D )
Rahman-Maskaev

Nice ones.JCC and The Mutt was crazy.wasn't that the night of the flying freebie seat cushings Lol?Talk about eating your words on Haugens part :fight:
Great call Mick !Kid Akeem vs. Quiroga was the best and worst in one, terrible.Great back & forth with Anifowoshe breaking out from prospect to Championship calibur in a flash,he and Quiroga asked and answered serious questions of one another and would not back up.Aftermath and near death of Akeem will always over shadow it.He had two fights that night, the iffy scorecards overlooked him but he won the fight for his life.
I'll add in Tony Lopez L.TKO to John John Molina rematch,The Sacramento crowd went absolute apesshite after It was stopped and must have thrown a years supply of Beer, cups, ice, etc into the ring....booing and pissing at everyone ring center and was just insane.Hometown boy gets belted and losses title........Crowd buy's him a drink the hardway :-X

The night of the flying cushings... ;D
Haugen had to be escorted out all the way back to the airport. ;D
I agree with Quiroga-Akeem a great fight with some dark shadows behind it that will forever tell the story of a great night of boxing followed by tragedy.
Good call on Lopez-Molina completely forgot about that one.
The Sac town crowd wasn't having it they let everyone know exactly how they felt that night...

I didn't know this? Why would anyone want to get at Merchant? I like the guy, he's never afraid to ask fighters what the people are thinking and he adds entertainment even when the fights are dire.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Most recent is the crowd at Wales for Joe Calzaghe's fight agianst a worthy Peter Manfredo. Wait did I say worthy.....then what does that make Pavlik?

Minter was a fake anyway. He got his ass whooped later on and Hagler went on to be maybe the greatest 160 champ ever.
Some more classless boxing fans.

I think the majority were cheering for him in all 2 rounds of the Tszyu fight.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
OK as its not been mentioned i think the unhinged Hide turning up at the Harrison fight and being provoked into kicking off....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDudXXZNPio
the reason this one pisses me off is if i remember right it was the last boxing shown on the BBC... was it because they had blown thier funds for boxing on Audley or was it because of that riot which went out live to millions ((not great for boxing or the BBC))
also Frank Bruno appeared talking about fighting again... just befor he had his breakdown.

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Ali-Foreman

My vote would be for the British crowd when Hagler beat Minter for the MW title. It was a disgrace and its a shame us Brits never seem to learn!
Also one other that springs to mind is the parachuter (or whatever he was) in the Bowe-Holyfield II match. I know he wasn't exactly a member of the crowd but he certainly became involved lol.
Agreed... First thing that came to mind was Hagler/Minter... I was apauled!

To turn the coin again;
I remember seeing Fenech and I think it was Villasana or somethig stopped in the ring between rounds and hung over the ropes stareing up into Festival hall in Melbourne to watch a fight up in the crowd.
They were fight fans too ;D.
Soliman and Mundines first fight the fans threw bottles and shit at Mundines camp as they left the ring, those arent fans of anything other than blood guts and ko's; no real fight fan would do that or boo anyone either.

Absolutely... As I have not seen them I can not rebut but I will say by what is sounds... irritating. I hate when ANY booing happens at a fight... It's not like other sports. Booing is just... unfan like in the boxing world IMHO. I have never booed at a fight and scream at those that do. It embarrasses me
-
Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
You are a man after my own heart there Mr Pride.
I have yelled shut up ya fukker! at a booer, I hate that too.
Stand in a ring or get in the fighters face outside and boo then, see what happens to their lame ass then.;D:cool:
I applaud both fighters into the ring they all deserve it.
-
Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
For me recently
Hatton fans booing the US national anthem, just shouldn't happen
-
Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Honest all the Fights you mention were Kindergarden scuffles, compared to what happened at the NEC Birmingham. The night Ben Boxed the Argy, it was the set to between the Birmingham City Fans supporting McCracken And The Manchester City Fans supporting Foster. That was something else, I had a Kid on the show and never seen anything like it. It cleared the venue. 600 crackpots having it. Nec Banned Boxing after that Bodys all over the place.Men and Women in the $300 seats running for there Lives, that nearly Killed Boxing in Britain. Absolute Lunatics. The security and Police Shit Themselves.

That was only 2003. The BBC showed more Audley after that (Francis, Hersisia) and plenty of other fighters - Haye, Froch, Eastman etc...

Re: What is the most disgraceful crowd behaviour ever in boxing?
Hopkins easy on two separate occasions. Once with Tito and Flag incident and The whiteboy Calzaghe incident, I used to admire him but he is no more than just trash to me now and he will get knocked out by Pavliki in Oct.
