Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Pat Cowdell vs Salvador Sanchez
Jim McDonnell vs Azumah Nelson
Are the first two that come to mind considering the opposition they were up against, what heart from both men.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Micheal Watson v Mike Mc Cullam, He got Battered. Should have been pulled 3 rds before the End.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
I'm not overly familiar with British fighters, so some may roll their eyes at this, but I thought Hatton gave a brave performance vs. PBF. He was obviously frusterated, getting tattoo'd with hard punches, but he kept coming until the fight was stopped.

CFH you have to see the 2 fights i mentioned above they were great fights, especially the Nelson vs McDonnell one which was a war, if you want any of those fights send me a PM.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
I remember watching Paul Hodgkinson fight twice against an opponent I can't remember. He was winning in hard fights but had both his eyes closed. Was virtually blind in both eyes but still didn't want the ref to stop it. That kid had guts.
Michael Watson against Eubank II. Watson fought at the pace of a featherweight for 11 rounds and almost sacrificed his life when Eubank landed possibly the most beautiful, deperate, perfect and devestaing uppercut I have ever seen.

Michael Watson looked inhuman for 11 rounds, he truly fought an amazing fight and so did Chris Eubank. Possibly the best Super Middleweight fight ever, the extra weight help both fighters who were drained in the 1st fight. I think Michael Watson was better than Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Steve Collins.

I went to both fights. The first one when a lot of people said Watson was robbed was close and I think a draw was probably the right result. Watson fought like a man possessed in the second fight. I though he would blow himself out after 6 rounds because of the pace he was setting but he just never stopped. Eubank took a hell of a beating in that fight and it's amazing that he was able to finish the fight the way he did because he looked totally spent before Watson knocked him down.
Watson had looked classy when knocking out Nigel Benn (that fake pony tail LOL). He then got a lesson from the old Master in Mike McCallum - you could see Watson in agony from some of those body shots.
If it hadn't of been for that split second and the 10cm gap he left for that Eubank upercut he would have gone on to a world title I'm sure.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Watson v Eubank and i'm with Shamrock on this, what a cruel way to end it all....
Fought like a Lion then Eubank pulled out that punch from nowhere and threw it with vicious force.....BANG!
Me and my brother used to love watching Watson and rated him above Benn and Eubank at times.
Kenny B v Duran was another and i bet his bollox are still hurting now;D
Just finished reading Durans book and Ken says in it that he couldn't piss for a good few months without serious pain.
Graham v Jackson was another nasty way to end things too and Graham was simply switched off by Jackson:o
Bruno v Bonecrusher or Jumbo Cummings were others that i remember,Franks arms just dropped and he went on pause and tottered about like a pisshead after a ruby with dihorea;D
Still makes me laugh that Cummings fight hahahaha
And what about Danny Williams game effort against Vitali,he was up and down like a yo yo and seemed to re-invent breakdancing, then the Willaims fight (forget the opponent) where he sparked him with a dislocated shoulder...
That was amazing even though it wasn't a loss it showed a HUGE pair

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Managed to get a brief chat with Ken Buchanan whilst he was in Malta a few years back(why does Malta seem to attract ex fighters?) He said his ex wife hit way harder than Duran did :D
-
Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Duran never seemed to really phase him at all during that fight, lost his cool and smashed his bollocks in;D
-
Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Eubank vs Thompson in the 1st fight
-
Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
In fairness, was taking Buchanan to the cleaners was Duran, and a couple of Rds before Ken was looking for a way out, From my memory remembering His body language.

Yeah the losing one it was heart breaking to watch him trying to see the ref talking to him through his swolen eyes. If I remember right he was badly swolen in the second fight too but not bad enough to stop him winning. Gutsy fighter.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Yes he was an excellent fighter but he fought Goyo Vargas at his peak and was beaten comprehensively.

Re: Bravest Losing Effort From A British Fighter.
Richard Dunn vs Ali and Watson vs McCallum.
