I really want to see him fight Margarito again

Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
If a fight with Margarito (or Cotto) can't be made, I think it's better for Williams to go after Daniel Santos at 154...
.

Have alot of respect for Santos, but I think Williams at Jr.Middle is a beast.May be way to sharp for him at this point.

Yep, it's a winnable fight for Williams and he can make a statement here if he wins by defeating the guy that defeated Margarito... Sort of rubbing it in... ;D Plus Santos is a beltholder...
It will be a good fight... a war...

Williams is drifting to where the money is at.....and it is not here with Santos Imo.I think Williams takes Santos out, just too fresh and sharp. He really has the best of both worlds but I wonder if that weight roller-coaster will take a toll ?

To be honest Daniel Santos didn't beat Antonio Margarito and got a gift decision IMO, as for Paul Williams its funny because he is now in the same position Antonio Margarito was, i think he should stay between 154-160, Welterweight drains him too much. I would love to see Forrest vs Williams i don't think Forrest is the kind of guy to duck anyone.

Then I think Margarito needs to fight Daniel Santos or Paul Williams again to prove that he was really "robbed" in those defeats...

Well i think Paul Williams beat Antonio Margarito clearly, so Antonio Margarito needs to fight him again for certain, thats the only legit loss on Margarito's resume IMO, because the other losses were when he was a teenager except Santos, Williams, but i thought he beat Santos no question.
Daniel Santos is a no/no though, the two times he has fought him they've clash heads and its frequent aswell, and Margarito has been badly cut twice so he could risk another injury which means a long lay off. I think Margarito proved in the rematch he was the better man, and i haven't seen anyone who thinks Santos deserved to win there fight.

Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
He wasn't robbed in the WIlliams fight. Williams is a good fighter and Margarito just started too slow. Nothing wrong with that fight, win or lose. Margarito showed himself pretty well in that fight. Even though I lost quite a bit of money on that fight last summer (well I guess 2 summers ago now).
Margarito could fight him again and win. This would be a good fight, but as I have expressed in another thread, I want Margarito to fight a gimmie mandatory before another crazy ass fight. He won't be around long with his style, and no need to rush it.
Margarito has no need to fight Santos again. It isn't his weight division, he could fight him again and win, but it is really a silly point to make. Santos isn't where the money is (as said above). I would rather Margarito stay active against mandatories then jack with Santos.

What amazes me is how many sports writers and boxing websites had Margarito winning, now im a fan of Margarito but no way did he win that fight, Williams dominated the first 6 rounds, then Margarito did make a good comeback but i thought when Williams clearly won the 12th round, that sealed the deal. I believe i had Williams ahead by 3 rounds.

No I am a big Margarito fan and he def. lost. He didn't look bad or anything, its just he didn't take any early rounds or enough rounds total.. A clear UD for Williams. IMO. I thought it was a really good match up!.

There's no money in Santos, he's just another high risk - low reward fighter but the belt might be enough incentive for Williams to go for it... Imagine Williams being a 3-division champ all at the same time....
Or go after any of the 154 champs (Philips, Forrest, Dzinziruk)...
.

Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
I did not think the fight was a robbery at all it was close and ended early still find it a lose for Margrito i thought Santos was rocking him doing well. I think at that weight it takes away to many things that make Margirto a elite his size advantage plays heavy on his sucess i say stay at WW.
-
Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
Williams will get his shot when Williams deserves one.....He needs to be a consistant champion...Fight opp in the top ten and stop insisting he should only fight the Cottos and the such....
Williams could be a huge star in this sport but his attitude is all wrong to become one....I dont understand why guys think that one or two wins over top guys means they are the sports biggest things going

No offence. But I don't understand a word of what you've said.
-
Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
I like Williams alot and im so tired of these fighters running around saying they would fight anyone but yet no one wants to fight Williams and i seen him call a lot of fighters out. I think he can beat anyone between 147 and 160 besides Pavlik. It's ashame how he keeps calling Margarito and Williams already beat him! It should be the other way around. When Margarito (in the interview i seen) is asked about Williams he totally ignores the interviewer Toni if full of SHIT!! The only name he mentions is Oscar. Give it up he's not going to fight you! I see he was suppose to fight Clottley and now im hearing that fight is off. He claims he's ducked and would fight anyone now he is doing the ducking. Paul Williams Beat the man that if Cotto would have beat he would have been regarded as the best fighter in boxing. Williams beat and him a year and a half damn near two years ago and gets a second rate opponent in Carlos Quintana. He lost but it looked better for Williams when he beat the crap out of him in the rematch. Williams is really being black balled and i'm am so damn sick of it!!!

Winky has been notoriously hard to negotiate with. HOWEVER, just go to boxrec you ignorant little boy, and look at his resume, then look at the location of most of those fights. Observe that he has fought the who's-who anywhere and everywhere. Observe that he has fought named contenders and has arguably the best resume of active boxers.
Then you are going to sit there and tell me that he is ducking a guy who hasn't proven himself at the weight (oh wait, Against andy from Minnesota  ) (andy from Minnesota isn't like beating a Virgil from the Dakotas), a guy who got KOed by the Q and tell me that Winky is DUCKING HIM.
Get your ignorant ass out of here.

Just watched the KO of Kolle on youtube.
Boom ! he does carry some power in that extraordinary reach.

wow u seem a lil upset over there he must be your favorite fighter or something. well i dont care the point is he makes stupid demands to get out fights just like he wanted 50/50 for a rematch with taylor and he aint even a champion. so dont cry over it there just posts;D

Calm down dude. You act as if It was a one way pain induced beating.A pretty close fight in which Paul put everything together and boxed very well, job well done.Margarito has himself to blame for starting late and playing catch up all night.Since,Margarito has unended and defeated a prime and top quality champion when many said he would not and frankly has earned an oppurtunity to pick and choose.I would not mind a rematch,Tony is not hiding under his bed....dont worry :cwm34:.I sincerly believe after thinking about his options,Williams will not campaign at welter any longer.
Also,Winky is not ducking Williams, thats just special ed talk.Exactly when is the last time Winky has fought at Jr.Middle?Or for that matter, fought at all?The man has fought quality opposition recently and He has never struck me as the skeered easily type.

I am giving you some neg rep for the biggest BS post I have heard in a long time.....
Clottey will fight ANYONE......You act as if Williams beat Margarito from pillar to post it was a close fight that Tony gave away more or less due to his slow start not because William is better then he is....BTW Margarito like Clottey will fight anyone and in case you have not noticed he has been beating the shit out of the divisions hardest hitters and one of the games P4P best.....Yeah he KO'd Quintana in the rematch during the first round and it nwas a hell of a KO but a first rd KO proves little on who is the more skilled fighter...many fighters have been caught in the first cold.....
Your post was nothing more then a fanboy rant....

Kelly also holds all the marbles at MW not too mention the division is thin so it leaves little choice but to play the game with him

Pardon me, but Williams had his time to shine...
After he beat Margarito it was the time to shine the time to strike while the iron was hot.
Remember he spent like 8 months just sitting around crying that no one wanted to fight him?
Then once he does fight he got beaten by CQ?
I remember posting about this some time back....
The same thing happened with Margarito, he got so into this whole no one will fight me that Margarito stood in inactivity for so long.
I've often said that also has to do with their Management they should have kept Williams busy after the Margarito fight but they didn't and they paid the price.
-
Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
Mick I couldn't agree more. Both Margarito and Williams both should have been taking easy mandatories, etc. instead of claiming 'no one will fight me.' Imagine if Williams, after winning against Margarito, had the next month blasted this Andy kid out from Minnesota??
I am not saying fighters should just want these mis-matches, but taking easy fights and fighting regularly is much better than inactivity and ring-rust.
-

I agree with you on the aspect of these guys should be fighting more often...And yes not the mis-matches but there are plenty of guys ranked in the top 20 even that could put on decent bouts with them....
Problem is everyone thinks they should only get the big pay-day fights and nothing else...

Now Clottey has called out Williams we'll see how interested Williams is . If he accepts ,which I doubt , I'll be very very surprised

I'll doubt he will accept it and why should he ? Joshua Clottey IMO is still a high risk/low reward fight, but props to Williams if he does accept it. But i'll doubt he will move back down to Welterweight to fight someone who hasn't really got a big name.

I hope Arum and Goosen can sort out their differences and make this fight happen... Williams and Clottey are among my favorites and I don't care much on who wins this fight...

Personally I'd like a rematch with Judah for Clottey, give him the KO he was on his way too putting on Zab ;D.I am thinking Williams will not return to Welter.

Naahh... Judah too small for Clottey... Hopefully we can have these fights at welter:
Clottey - Williams
Margo - Cotto rematch
Berto - Mosley (maybe ;) )
Cintron - Quintana
.

Re: When will Paul Williams get his chance to shine!
Paul williams in my opinion is seriously overhyped.
I was impressed with his victory over Margarito but since then he hasn't been that impressive although his 1st KO victory over Quintana was good. He went up in weight and ko's a middleweight bum. Now people start comparing him to tommy hearns . If i was williams i would stop jumping around divisions and stay at welterweight, fight the top guys then move up from there.

nobody should compare him to hearns the only thing they got in common is height. But i dont think paul is overhyped i just think he needs to get offerd some decent fights like a clottey or cotto or even mosley, and im pretty sure he would stay at welter if he was able to land some fights but its hard to do that when nobody wants to fight you.
