What's good fellas?
As some of you may know last night I was ringside for the HBO triple header from Pechanaga Resort & Casino.

What a night it was man..
Sitting ringside is always something special for me, it's a feeling like no other when your there just watching everything with your own eyes...

The night was crazy and it seemed like everything the fights just flew by quick.

I got some good shots while there and some footage.
Hope you enjoy them. :)

1st fight up was Luis C. Abregu vs. Roberto Valenzuela...

I was really looking forward to seeing Abregu as everything I had read about him lead me to believe that the he was one to look out for.
Well so much for that. Wasn't impressed with him at all he was just slow and didn't look as they had described him. He wasn't explosive and he didn't look hungry. He was content with just getting by and didn't really press the action.

Next up is "El Ciclon De Guantamo" Yuriorkis Gamboa

He had everyone talking the whole night. As the people walked in to the place people were saying can't wait to see Gamboa...

I should note that he turned me down for a picture. :(

I caught him in the lobby of the hotel walking with his entourage.
I said to him "Suerte Yuriorkis y con la guardia arriba" which translates to "Good luck Yuriorkis. Remember your guard up"

He didn't reply or say anything I'm thinking he thought I was joking with him about the hands up ???
Then I asked if he had time for a picture and he just turned around and walked away.

I gotta say I wish I would have recorded this but I told the people sitting around me as we were about a group of 10 people (we werent together) talking about the fights and sharing comments. I said to them it's not a Gamboa fight unless he hits the canvas. The people around me started laughing and said you think he's going down. I said let's wait and see...

Sure enoug he get's caught with what appeared to be a left hook from the hands of the Mexican Ramirez. It turns out it was the elbow which hit Gamboa...

Round 2.

With the people still going crazy after the 1st round the fighters don't dissapoint and they countinue to come forward and trade shots.
The powerful Gamboa forces himself and trades toe to toe with Ramirez.
Ramirez doesn't back down and throws back.

During the exchange BOTH fighters land some vicious shots.
Both rock eachother, but the faster and stronger Gamboa comes out on top.

Up next is "El Perro" Angulo who he himself had like his entire family there.
At least 40-50 people were all wearing "El Perro" shirts and caring flags and banners.

I gotta start off by saying I didn't think Angulo looked good. I thought he looked much slower then usual and he just looked flat.
Like he had no energy in there in the very early rounds. He looked almost un motivated at times.
Even after the fight while everyone was cheering and around him in the lobby he seemed distraut and just not fully there.

I thought the fight should have been stopped a lot sooner by his corner.
Somewhere around the 8th round...
I mean Tsurkan was landing the left but that's about it. Plus the shots were very few and far apart.

Tsurkans promoter was sitting about 5 people next to me and he kept yelling at Tsurkan to stand there and trade but to use his waist more.

I thought to myself "Stand there and trade" are you fucken kidding me. Theres no way Tsurkan hits harder then Angulo why would he trade?

What a fight man, Sergio boxed brilliant I don't know if you guys got the same feel to his style from the TV but from ringside he looked untouchable there for most of the fight.

As the fight wore on you can see that Bunema was just in there on instincts. He wasn't really going in with a plan he was just getting by the rounds but Sergio kept popping him in the face with the jab and combos he threw.

During the 7th round the ref. Raul Caiz Sr. called in the Dr. to look at Bunema. The Dr. said he was good to continue and he fought on.

After the 7th round, Caiz Sr. again called in the Dr. this time the Dr. adviced that he should not continue fighting and told ref. Caiz to stop the fight.

Notes:

Antonio Margarito was there ringside.
Sergio Mora was there ringside.
Armando Muniz was there ringside.

Once again I couldn't get a pic. with Lennox Lewis as he was mobbed by the people.

As I mentioned Alex Bunema walked into the ring wearing a bathroom robe from the hotel. ;D
One of Bunemas people could have been manager was kicked out from ringside as he kept yelling throughout the fight.

Sergio Martinez had about 2 rows full of fans from Spain. They were all wearing Sergio Martinez shirts and had banners.

I wanted to punch Ahmet Oener when I 1st saw him. Just looking at him I didn't like him. You can hear me talking shit in 1 of the videos about him ;D

At one point Lennox Lewis and Sergio Martinez were talking and Lennox was giving Martinez advice on how to throw his jab better. Lennox told him that he needed to step in when throwing the jab. Saying that Martinez would not step in. Lennox threw about 3 jabs to show Martinez what he meant. They shook hands and took pics.

Sergio really looks the part, he knows when to impose his will, and knows exactly where his limitations are. Looks like 154 might get shook down to it's boots in the next few years lot of talent coming up there.

Gamboa, what a dick!! He hasn't done shit to have an entourage of 25. He's going to get sparked with better competition.

Angulo, fought well, but like you said, seemed a little flat. But hey, he got the job done.

The star of the night was Martinez!! I became a fan!! I can't wait to see more of him, and since it seems that HBO was really impressed with him, I'll probably get my wish.

Oh and that pic of the two of you!!! Ohhhh my, I saved that pic right away to my computer. :lickish:

Martinez was just in a zone.
He was on target the whole night. If he can continue to fight at that level which he displayed he will def. be the man to beat.
Would love to see him fight Forrest and clear that whole "Interim" bullshit.
I was happy man, it's not everyday you get an opp. to snap a pic. with a fighter whos fought mainly in other countries.
I think Gamboa thought I said it in a joke fashion which I didn't but oh! well.

All around all fights had something for them.

Angulo-Tsurkan was a battle of will vs. determination. But that Tsurkans got a lot of heart man... My god.

Gamboa-Ramirez was an explosive assault for 2 rounds. Fireworks from start to finish.

Martinez-Bunema was a masterpiece paiting. The way Martinez fought and controlled the fight was brilliant. Now it's time for Martinez to do it vs. a top level fighter. And I agree, HBO should jump allover Martinez.

Maybe Martinez vs. Margarito II @ 154... ;)

thanks for the pics Mick. You put the fights in backwards though right?? I mean Gamboa was last on HBO, Martinez first. Anyway I thought it was a helluva card for boxing after dark.

Tsurkan should have not been allowed to fight so long.

I will rep when I can.

Gamboa looks very cocky to me. I guess he has the right to be. But it is quite a step up to world opposition....compared to Tsurkan.

Well in fairness, Gamboa has like a million amature fights......so if he hadn't had them he is probably thinking he would already be a superstar..... or perhaps it saved him from getting knocked the out.

I was a little let down by the card, I thought we were in for a nice triple header, but it was mostly uneventful. Martinez did steal the show.

Agreed- thought Martinez looked pretty untouchable; would like to see him take the next step up in competition.

I also side with Kellerman's take that Gamboa is just going to get himself knocked out with the rushes and the flurries... my question is (never seen this guy fight before), is all that athleticism covering up for a lack of boxing skill? If some guy he was able to knockout so quickly was also able to floor him (elbow or no elbow) just as quickly, what's he going to do when someone actually makes him box?
