Samuel Peter's effort
Well, I just finished watching the Klitschko Peter fight on youtube because it wasn't aired on Australian TV.
Anyone else think that Sam Peter's gameplan was a steaming turd??
It looked as if he rocked up expecting to fight a midget and then all of a sudden looked over and saw 6foot8 Vitali across the ring from him.
Against Vitali, a guy of Peter's height has got to work damn hard to get inside. His training camp should have been spent sparring against giants, practising the head movements and quick footwork that Tyson used to great effect against taller opponents.
He was a human punching bag in there tonight - his effort and gameplan were so sadly lacking it wasn't funny. I heard his trainer yell 'move your head' and 'keep your hands up'. That is what you are taught on your first night in a boxing gym.
Another heavyweight title fight, another massive dissapointment - another reason every boxer in the world over 200lb should be shot. Shoot em all, start over.

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
was there effort.

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Wouldn't shooting them all exacerbate the problem?

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Pretty much Sam Peter should never be allowed to put on a pair of boxing gloves again. EVER.

He couldn't get past Shannon Briggs so I'll take Peter in that fight

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Peter did what Peter can , meaning he is a plodder with good power , and very little ability , Vitali was and is so much better than Peter who is a poor excuse for a former champ.
His condition is a total disgrace , he is shit , full stop. as i predicted the win for Vitali.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Does anyone have a link to the fight on youtube?
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
It was a bit similar to Vitali-Williams.
To me Peter fought his usual fight.. he's just very limited and got beat by the best guy out there.
Vitali would still bash everyone up no problem - including his brother (obviously thats not happening).
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Peter went out like a biitch. He needs to go back to what he does best. Destroying C, D level fighters.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
I miss judged Peters, I really thought he was better than that. I thought he might give 3 or 4 rnds to klitcshko and then get inside and hammer him. I saw Peters scoring a late rnd stoppage, Klitschko was tiring but i think after the announcer read out the score cards Samuels mentally gave up....its no excuse but maybe if Peters was not aware of the scores he could have gone on?
Otley (4 out of 5 predictions..nearly correct)!!!
eh eh!!!

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
I watched the fight live on setanta and couldn't help thinking FIX!! he didn't try his best he didn't really try to win and to just retire on his stool after 8 rounds was a joke to give his championship up in that way even if he had only won 1 round their was 4 rounds left he could have landed a big shot as we know with the heavys one and your gone.Their was just something a bit sus about it all Sam Peter makes out he hates the Klitschko's then he is laughing and shaking hands with them both the fact that Vitali is the only heavyweight to come back straight into a title fight without a warm up and win and the fact they are the only brothers to be champ at same time in heavyweight division adds to my theory of this being a FIX!!

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
he was terrible, you never saw any ferocity , any drive in him.

Agreed about the Williams comparison. Vitali just dismantled Peter and just kept increasing the voltage round by round. Its just Peter didnt really want to go down.
No doubt Vitali has returned and proven himself the best out there.

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Tyson think your way off i dont think Peter is on Vitalis level and never would be he is not good against the elite. What makes you think he could hurt Vitali he is not his brother the man has never been down in his career and he has faced far bigger punchers then sam big time i would say. To me i sounds like your sore but i dont know why Vitali is better champion and he knocks out top guys in the division so to me better champion if any thing should be happy been a while since we have had one dude be happy.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
im not sore im not even a big Sam Peter fan just he never really tried anything he gave up and he has fought so much better than he did last night as for Vitali he was not anything special last night so i wouldn't be getting to excited.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Well if was his first fight back maybe he has warmed up i like to see him in with Haye think Vitali going to knock the big mouth out i would enjoy that.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
I think Haye could knock either of these out he would hit Vitali from alot more angles than Peter did vitali was blowing from about round 4 or 5 he got a gift from Sam Peter who fought like a bum and quit like a heartless bum.But don't think i don't know that both Wlad and Vitali could also KO Haye

Peter absorbed at least a hundred solid and hard punches from a 6'8 250+ lb man that's knocked out virtually everyone he's fought. He was busted up from the second round on. Peter didn't quit like a bum. He took a massive beating and I don't think he even landed a single solid shot.
The fact is Vitali had a great night and Peter had a bad one.

Peter was WBC champion of the world he shouldn't quit he didn't even have much facial damage he should have fought to the end.

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Vitali's performance was good I think Peter's however was not even world challenger level never mind world Champion he really disappointed me with that performance yesterday.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
That was one of the biggest non-efforts Ive seen by a reigning heavyweight champion.Vitali came back very strong and not a sign of rust in the house but Peter had an obligation,to himself first and foremost,to at least assert himself, make adjustments, commit to his power,Something for shits sack!!
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Its not only Peter that shows no effort. Thompson was awful and pretty much every challenger recently has just not cared . Thats why the 3 champs Vitali , Wvlad and Valuev are all tall fighters who take no risks and thats all they need to be sucessful .

The will to win was not there. That is what is most disapointing.

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
Samuel no effort Peters, should be ashamed, retied on his stool, after little efort, did not go down fighting, how can this be a world title fight, RUBISH, HOLYFEILD, FRAZIER ,LEWIS TYSON, FOREMAN, ALL PUT 100% into there fights when loosing, gave every thing they had, Peters was a disgrace, as a champion.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
I think he did a good job at been a walking punch bag ;D

I watched a few of the rounds earlier. Klitshko must have landed about 90% of the punches he threw!!
Did they show the punch stats at the end of the fight?

Re: Samuel Peter's effort
There was never any point where Peter had a chance in this fight, he needs to get a trainer that can work with him on those things, but honestly I don't think he has the ability to be "that guy" that could get inside against a jab.
-
Re: Samuel Peter's effort
In hindsight, I don't see how I ever thought Peter had a chance of winning. I guess because Vitali could have been rusty or could have had an injury creep up on him. But seeing Peter's body (I didn't see from the beginning) I knew he'd been lazy in training camp. He looked soft. First off, for a guy who's only 6' tall Sam always comes in overweight. Sure he's big-boned, but there's no reason he should ever step in the ring over 235lbs. I looked at him and could tell he was over 250. When he came in at 249 against Toney he looked great in how he moved. He was very agile, which he wasn't against Vitali. With his success of late I'd lain off saying it but now it bears dusting off and repeating: ministers don't make good trainers. If Sam is serious about fighting pro he needs to dump him for someone who knows what to do. Someone who can make Sam put the fork down and do roadwork on a consistent basis. Someone who doesn't have to remind him of the basics mid-fight. I say go out and hire Mike Tyson. I doubt he knows how to train but if you can get him to do what he did and training and just follow suit you're ahead of the curve. Look at Sam's big ol' belly- think it ever did 1000 sit-ups in one setting? If Peter could shadow Mike he could become a monster. Just make him a co-trainer.
If Vitali can remain healthy he can rule the division. When you're that big, fast and talented it's difficult for anyone to get in your way.
