Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
Let's just all face the facts. Lennox Lewis won on a stoppage due to a cut which in all honesty was a freak accident, if Lennox tried to cut Vitali that bad again on purpose he might do it 1 time in 1,000 chances.
Lennox Lewis was preparing to fight Kirk Johnson, Vitali Klitschko was preparing to fight Cedric Boswell...so nobody was at an advantage there.
Lennox Lewis was a great champion and Vitali Klitschko gave him all he could handle....there were no knockdowns, there were no 10-8 rounds, it was a fairly even fight with Vitali up 58-56 on all cards.
Put your fanhood aside and just admit it was a GREAT fight that happened on regular HBO because the planets aligned in just the right manner and the boxing Gods gave us this fight as a gift.....enjoy it, don't dismiss this fight as "Lennox was lazy and fat and unprepared" or only "If Vitali didn't get cut he would have won"....Champions fight and they win no matter where, when, or what the circumstances are.

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
It was a great fight& much better than Lewis/ Johnson would have been. I've always felt that Vitali was lucky it ended the way it did. Cut or no cut I think Lewis would have stopped him in the next few rounds!!!
-
Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
It was a great fight and thats the only real conclusion we can make from it. Lewis won but it was inconclusive. Vitali was up on the cards, and Lewis busted up Vitalis face badly. For anyone to decide what might have been is just speculation. Lewis had just had his best round but seemed winded. Vitali was up but bleeding and lost that preceding round.
It was a great fight. Leave it for what it was.

Ha Ha Ha...Good Stuff Lyle....
In truth you are right...Vitaly gave Lennox all he could handle, The nfight was close (2rds at the 6th is in no way a large margin)....Vitaly took the early rounds...Lennox won the last few before the stoppage.....If not for the cut we have no idea how it would have ended...both were tired...both were huffing and puffing throwing one arm punches....
The cut though was not a freak accident....Freak occurance it opened so wide I will agree to that but not the cut itself...Though Lennox was targeting the cut like he was skeet shooting

I think the Lewis fans have left it alone but are constantly provoked by Vitali fans who cant accept their man got beat fair and square .

This is how the cut opened and why it opened where it opened. Lennox threw a right cross, Vitali leaned back, the cross went over Vitali's head although the thumb grazed Vitali's eye in the process therefore opening a cut on Vitali's eyelid and not his eyebrow......that doesn't happen very often in boxing. Vitali had not been cut before AND hasn't been cut after!
That being the case I think most would agree that the cut was caused not by a punch but HOW a punch landed and therefore can be considered a "freak accident" as any other time Lennox throws the punch he usually lands it flush OR Vitali ducks it OR it doesn't land in the same way to cause such a cut.
Yes AFTER the cut happened Lennox targeted it as any smart boxer would do, you take advantage of a fighter's weakness.

how many fights has he had after that Lyle?

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
4....all vs top competition (at the time)
Kirk Johnson, Corrie Sanders, Danny Williams, and most recently Sam Peter....all guys who could have opened Vitali up if he cut so easily

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
I rewatched the fight..... that was a great fight. You know people act like the HW division is shit. And it is. But it has never been super great....and that fight wasn't even that long ago. And Vitally is still fighting, plus Wlad has come into his own. The only thing we are really missing is a couple more solid heavyweights.
-
Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
The problem is consistency...the average/decent guys just don't fight consistently one day Jameel McCline can get beaten by Zuri Lawrence but then go and bust up Sam Peter

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
most entertaining heavyweight fight i've seen in a long long time.
That second round is beautiful. Great fight.
Vitali looks like he's ready to go, but he looked that way for some time.
From the third on up I felt as though he was working much harder than lewis and
lewis was ultimately going to have more energy going late. After the 6th, it looked like
they were even again and I'm willing to gamble that Vitali was hungrier and would have
been willing to dig deeper, but we'll never know.
Great showing by Lewis in retaining his strap, great fight. I miss fights like these.

How in the hell did he last that long with being blind in one eye. Fact is lewis would have had his ass kicked every round if the cut didn't happen. the only reason lewis got back into the fight even a little bit was because vitali was blind in one eye for at least 3 rounds.

How ncan you know that? Vitaly was breathing with his mouth open looking a bit worse for the wear himself...Cut or no cut his stamina was shot as Lewis was...Vitaly was breathing hard after round one himself....
You can not assume what he would have done.....Fact is he lost the fight...assume all you want but in the end it is still just that...an assumption

Im not picking you up on it mate i just keep hearing people calling this a great fight, but it was without much skill. And the action itself wasn't consistent, its nowhere near as good as fights like Bert Cooper vs Michael Moorer, Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe 1 etc.

Serguei Lyakhovich vs Lamon Brewster was just as good as Lennox Lewis vs Vitali Klitschko, maybe even better.

Whether someone finds a fight great or not is a personal thing.. you don't need majority recognition ;)

Yea i know like i said i wern't picking him up on it everyone has the own opinions and tastes, but i just think because people haven't seen a great Heavyweight fight in a long time. They look for anything in the Heavyweight division to build there excitement up. And because 95 percent of the Heavyweight fights are boring now, when you actually see one with action in it, its shocking and exciting because you haven't seen action in a Heavyweight fight in along time. Hence why i think the fight gets overrated and people forget about really true great Heavyweight fights, i don't think it compares to Bowe vs Holyfield 1, Norton vs Holmes etc.

No - that's not the reason.. people remember the experience.
You're too young to remember fights like Bowe-Holyfield let alone Norton-Holmes.. you already were informed they were GREAT before you watched them, imagine how GREAT they would have been had you lived at the time to experience them ;)

Ah, how did i forget that >.<
You're so right. That as a great fight.
I think this fight had something that the other fight lacked though.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about this fight that just makes it feel....Epic

the best part of the fight was Larry the homoe fighting over the mike with Lennox
tell me that wasn't funny...

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
This fight is really on the verge of happening!I've just checked some great odds for the up and coming Prizefighter tournament and while i was looking at the odds i found that the bookmakers have already given odds out for the Lewis vs Klitschko:ofor 2009!
Here are the odds of the fight from CORAL BOOKMAKERS:Klitschko 1/2(win) 20/1(draw) Lewis6/4(win)
Making Lewis the underdog!!

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
That was a very dramatic fight. Lewis was huge in Canada, And Klitschko had us on the edge of our seats. At the time I thought it entirely possible that Lewis would knock him out, but who knew for sure. Lewis didn't look to me like he had his A-game, that's for sure.
As for whether or not Lewis was on form, it is interesting to note that at some point after the fight, Klitschko himself said he could tell almost right away that Lewis was out of shape.
And yeah Mick, Merchant was a real chump in the post fight interview, very disrespectful towards Lewis.

What you failed to mention was
Lennox was prepared for a warm up match with Kirk Johnson. Kirk pulled out leaving the card in jeopardy. Lennox did, what no other fighter I know has, took on his #1 contender on a few days noticeto save the card
An 80% Lewis beat a 100% Vitali that night. A 100% Lewis would DEMOLISH him lol

Did I fail to mention that? I believe it's in the post you quoted. Kirk got injured and Vitali stepped up.
Well I'm sorry, people must really underrate Cedric Boswell since fighting Lennox Lewis was apparently not a big deal for Vitali but fighting Vitali instead of the 34-1-1 Kirk Johnson was a HUGE deal for Lennox Lewis.
Look at ALL the facts next time
And a true CHAMPION is always 100% fully prepared to fight after training no matter who they throw in there.

Re: Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko
The prime Vitali already fought the 38 year old version of Lennox and lost. So it is Impossible for Vitali to beat a Prime Lennox Lewis. That is commonsense and the right answer
