I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
I love Neil Young, always have. His music was very special to both myself and my mom, and I doubt I'll ever get the chance to see him again. Unfortunately, going would require my dropping one of my classes. I'd get no money back, but honestly I've been thinking about dropping it anyways. I really dislike it and I'm actually having a hard time doing the work and understanding what's going on, which is very rare for me. It won't extend my graduation or anything, as I need to take an extra semester anyways to finish school anyways.
The thing is, I cannot think of another concert I want to see more than this one, there are still tickets left, and this may well be his final tour. On my death bed I doubt I'll lay there thinking, "goddamn I'm glad I finished that cultural anthropology class", but I'll sure as shit lay there thinking how great it was to see Neil.
Thoughts?

Its not everyday you get the chance to see Neil Young.
Neil Young is great. An underrated album of his for me is Silver and Gold, just acoustics and piano, some lovely simple songwriting.

I agree. I was at my girlfriends mom's house for dinner tonight, and her brother called from the Neil Young show in Calgary, and listening to the music in the background killed me. I have to see him, fuck school and fuck the money - at least that's how I'm thinking ATM.
It's not like he's going to be around much longer, he had an aneurysm a year ago.
Like I said, his music was incredibly meaningful to my mom, and thus to me, so I think I'd really regret not going.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Have you missed that class before or something or is the concert on the day of a final or something? I would say fuck the class if I thought it was Nickatina's last tour of something. That is like a period of my life, I would go. So yeah, do it. That's my advice. Straight talk express.

I have a midterm for the class on Fri, and I'm certain to bomb it if I go to the show. Hell, I'll probably bomb it anyways.

Sounds like your mind is decided, will the show be a family event? They are treasure's.I'm split though, Neil has been around since the wheel was invented,Im sure he will be around a few more?Shite,I effectivly dropped a class by going to an MDC show. But ask your self,Is there anything else you might drop a class for, what next??Hey,have fun

There's not much else I'd drop a class for. If it was a class I enjoyed or that I felt I was doing well in, I would have a tougher time deciding, but the class sucks and I'm really not understanding much of it at all to be honest. I'll probably have to drop it after I bomb the midterm. I'm pretty much a straight A student too, so this is a bit of a strange situation to be in.
As for it being a family event, it will not I'm afraid as my mom passed away a little longer than 1 year ago, which is the main reason I really want to go. I love Neil, and it would be a very emotional experience. In a good way.
I owe you reps, I have to spread some around first.

Seriously, it's Neil Young man...

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
You bastards are great. When I started this thread I thought I was going to get a bunch of people calling me an idiot for thinking of dropping that class.
I'm about 99% sure I'm going to go.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Why not? I mean certainly your mind and fun has to take precedent somewhere, that would blow. I have school and work and I hate all the sports I missed, I almost didn't even get it off to get off last night. I miss all my college football and all the Sharks games and it's messing with my head. I'm getting on this thing for 3 hours a night figuring out what happened to my teams today from every angle possible, it's mindnumbing not being able to just watch it myself. Your mind has to play in there somewhere, ditch the class.
-
Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Also I should probably say, I don't know much about Niel Young. To me Neil Young is about as relevant as Neil Diamond. I'm guessing he's pretty good live, he better be. Isn't he the guy they talk about in Sweet Home Alabama? I knew I recognized the name.
Back to the original point, I'm assuming this concert is pretty much guaranteed to be good.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
It will undoubtably be a fantastic show. It's not just skipping a class though, it would mean I have to drop it entirely.

I hate giving advice, considering I f#cked up my life so I am in no position to give it; but if it means dropping the whole class entirely than I say no, don't do it. Neil Young is what, 3000 years old? Watch him on youtube; he's not going to pay your bills one day.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Ok, it would probably help if I read the whole thread before I answered. If you say you are planning on possibly dropping the class anyways because you're too stupid to know what's going on, then yeah definately go.
And AMAT stfu; I know you are planning on saying something;D

And LEGION makes his case, however inadvertantly, by not being able to read before posting...:shakehead: :p

This class is just about the most confusing thing I have ever experienced. It's like a 3 month long acid trip. English is not even the prof's first language. She's dedicated to the democratic ideal of letting us vote on almost everything (IE how many readings per week), and with our last assignment: she only graded some of them, the rest she told us to write what we thought we deserved on them and then told us she would not take that into account when grading ???

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
I was actually going to reply to your first post Legion and get mad for giving him the wrong advice. Besides, what a story that is. I dropped a class to see Neil Young, what a story. That's like the Roy Orbeson tattoo in the Waterboy.

I'm not interested in good stories, I'm too old for that, I just really like Neil Young and I really don't like that class. The only thing holding me back is the money, which I have, but I may or may not be too cheap to spend it.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
"To live a full life take risks", Rocky Marciano.
-
Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Rocky Marciano was in love with cash, he never kept anything in banks, he would never deposit a check he would always cash it, always. Anytime he got paid it had to be cash, they say he would throw out checks just because he liked the cash more.
Apparently the night he died he just used that cash to get a pilot to fly him from whereever he was to home, something he did a lot and it cost him.
So CFH, if you're going to the Neil Young concert by way of flight from the local airstrip, I would say don't do it. Again, wtf am I talking about. It made sense in my head, I've read that stuff about Marciano too.
-
Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
I don't fly unless I absolutely have to, so that's not a worry.
I don't think I'm going to go to the show, as with travel and accomodations it will cost me well over $200, plus I would miss a day of work. I think I am going to drop the class though, so the situation isn't a total loss.

At the minimum, plus another $120 (Canadian) minimum for missing a day of work. Also, last week I went to Vancouver to see a Flogging Molly concert (cost me half a tooth in the pit ), and I spent a ton of cash on that trip. Drinking Crown Royal at a bar is not cheap.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
I went to the show. Fucking awesome, I've seen literally hundreds of shows and this one is in my top 3 all-time along with Radiohead and Pantera.
Worth every penny (and brain/liver cell).

It was interesting going to a concert all by myself, I'd never done it before. I posted some vids from the the show (not taken by me) in the "What are you listening to?" thread.

Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Live for the moment bud, if you want to do something never ask yourself 'should I do this' just do it. You might not get the chance to do it again. That's my advice.
-
Re: I'm contemplating dropping a class just so I can go see Neil Young on Weds.
Oh you already been:p
I need to start reading all the pages of threads instead of jumping in feet first.

Good to hear. What were dome of the songs he did?
Neil is great in concert. I've seen him 5 or 6 times over the years, he always gets a real good crowd that makes lots of noise and shows their appreciation.
