Pavlik vs Abraham - Who wins now?

Even before Pavliks loss to Hopkins, I thought an Abraham match was a pick'em fight though I slightly favour Pavlik and still do.

Abraham is a hard man to nail, as his defence is superb, but his high hands often mean his output suffers. He is great at looking for the huge counterpunch which worked well against Edison Miranda.

Abraham can be outworked and this is where Pavlik wins it. He has too use his natural size advantages and keep the fight at long distance.

But with these two - one punch could turn the fight on its head as they both have awesome power.

With Pavliks WBC and WBO titles on the line along with Abrahams IBF, it is the biggest fight at Middleweight and is a possibility for early next year.

Who wins and Why in your opinion?

I was thinking about this last night and im leaning towards Arthur not because of what Hopkins did to Pavlik but what Arthur did to Miranda.

Abrahams is a more stand up in your face fighter that uses his gloves to not get hit instead of his feet. Pavlik has a shot as Abrahams will be there to be hit. Trouble is if Abrahams decides to move Pavliks plod will see him get another beating.

Abrahams also hits hard and Pavlik is chinny.

Wouldn't say Pavlik is chinny mate.

pavlik i a future great at middleweight ifd he stays there. thats my opinon and prediction, he will beat anyone at 160. he was flat against hopkins the same way hopkins took trinidad to school by outbiozing him and with the move up in weight, neither of them really stood a chance. taking nothing away from hopkins however he is a fantastic fighter for his age. pavlik to rule 160 for least the next 4 years if he stays, abraham a very good fighter but not active enough to make pavlik go away

I slightly favoured Abraham before so certainly haven't changed my opinion now.

Pavlik will probably be fed two or three gimmes before he's stepped up in class again.. so could be a while for this fight, if it happens.

I see Pavlik having trouble with defensive minded fighters! he looked great against Taylor and Miranda two offensive minded fighters but struggled when Taylor changed to a more defensive game plan and lost to Hopkins who is a defensive boss! I think he struggles to find a way through Abraham and also feels Abrahams power; If Pavlik learns to move laterally though he knocks out Abraham.

I still favor Pavlik over Abraham.

Abraham is a very good fighter, but he ain't Bernard Hopkins.

I don't think Pavlick will ver be the same fighter again! He looked like a lost kid after the Hopkins fight, it was like he realized that he isn't as good as he believed he was. I would've called this one 50-50 before the B-Hop fight, now I go with Abrahams no doubt

Abraham's not much of a mover, pretty flat footed really, obviously not comparable to Hopkins' movement.

I still favor Pavlik slightly as a Hopkins fight has absolutely no bearing on an Abraham (unless as Big H says Pavlik's mentally damaged by the fight). I could also see Abraham catching him with something big, still go with Pavlik though.

Either Pavlik by decision or Abraham by Tko.

I am edging towards Abraham though.

It'll be a good fight and a pick 'em, like some said Abraham doesn't have the footwork to make Pavlik overreach like Hopkins, but he's also a tougher nut to crack than Miranda/Taylor. We'll see against Rubio if there's any lasting damage to Kelly's confidence. IMO Kelly's a slow starter (except the Mirand fight where they had a game plane and executed it perfectly), took him some rounds to get the distance right with Taylor, and even with Lockett he need to gauge the distance right before unloading, he just never got the chance to get the distance right against the slick old man.

I said before the Bernard Hopkins fight its a tough fight for Kelly Pavlik, because of Arthur Abraham's toughness, defense, power. The problem is Arthur Abraham goes into a shell quite alot, and when he is going into shell he doesn't move or etc.

So he gives Kelly Pavlik chances to land on him at will, and although all of Kelly Pavlik's punches might not land. Atleast some of them will be getting through Arthur Abraham's guard, and he will be outworking him. Close fight though unless like BIG H said Kelly Pavlik is mentally ruined, which could be the case.

I'd still pick pavlik...

Pavlik wins. Let's remember the Hopkins fight was at 170, Pavlik no way was at his best at that weight. At 160 he is awesome.

I still don't know who I'd pick; just like before, though I would probably lean towards Abraham as Pavlik is going to have some confidence issues after this one sided slapping he just took, and Abraham can box, take a punch and pop real good.

Abraham and his camp are revelling in the loss Pavlik just took and will work to get him in that shellshocked, deer in the headlight look like he had against Hopkins; and not take any unneccasary risks while just trying to work Pavlik from angles, in and out and get him on points. The blueprint has been laid, actually it was somewhat laid in the second Taylor fight though Taylor just didn't have the ability to take it to him.

Pavlik is great when he is the bigger, more aggressive guy who can bully an opponent; and really imo is still the best finisher in the game right now; but we saw what a real boxer can do to him and as much as it pains me to say, make him look silly and amateurish. Abraham can do this to Pavlik. Kelly better get back to the drawing board real quick or he's in for some hard times; he can't keep fighting at MW so he could be on a Jermaine Taylor path to obscurity real soon. He's my fave fighter but I had my hands over my eyes Saturday night most of the fight as I couldn't watch;D LEARN HOW TO BOX!! I still want and Andrade/Pavlik fight. Pavlik at 160 will be unbeatable. I honestly can not see a thing Abraham could do to Kelly. I thought it was hilarious how HBO commentating team mentioned Abraham doing the same to Kelly. The right hand that landed on Hopkins in I believe it was the 10th would have had any fighter at 160 in trouble. Surely people will be influenced to pick Abraham to win now since Kelly just lost but give him another fight at 160 then fight Abraham and he will be the man again at 160.

He lost at 170 to a HoF/ATG who, in spite of his age, fought the best fight I've seen him fought, well, maybe ever. He's still the MW king and though Abraham is not an easy fight, my opinion doesn't change.

Pavlik showed vs Taylor in teh rematch and vs Hopkins that he hasnt got the skills to handle a mover . Abraham can move but he can bang too and I think he beats Pavlik in every area .

Aside from Abraham, are there any other middleweights that potentially could beat Pavlik?

i pput pavlik i still think hes the best at 160. he should just stay there long before going up in weight. and people are seem to be forgetting that kelly isnt even in his prime yet.

I like Abraham but Pavlik proved he needs to stay at middleweight where I think he will once again be a very effective fighter

Regardless of Saturday night,this can still be a pretty nice fight.There were many revelations verse Hopkins as to how one might defeat Pavlik,what was reinforced for me was that movement gives him big fits.You can not let him get rolling with forward offence,sharp punching and turning him makes him reset over and over,like a clock.I think Abraham's can carry this out,nice arsenal,decent but not Hopkins-esq footwork and chin from what Ive seen.I give Pav a solid chance with power and mentality,although as we witnessed,when the power is not enough and there is no plan B....you have huge problems.I think a bit of the luster is off the crown and needs to re-tool,Take a D.Lopez or Rubio & find some side to side,upperbody movement.

Kelly Pavlik beat Jermain Taylor by 7-5 in the rematch pretty convincingly IMO, and how is Arthur Abraham a good mover ? i've never seen Arthur Abraham move well around the ring. And how is his skill set anywhere near the likes of Jermain Taylor, Bernard Hopkins ?

Abraham can be hurt aswell as the 1st fight with Edison Miranda proved. I think if Pavlik can box using his height advantage and not push the action he can win on points.

Abraham fights at a very slow pace and can be simply outworked. Pavlik just has to use his brain rather than power.

Nah I wasnt impressed with Pav in the Taylor rematch . I was even less impressed when fought Hopkins . Abraham has all the tools to handle Pavlik , especially after the demoralising defeat to an old man . I think he'll be there for the taking against a young powerful champion like Abraham. Plus Pav will struggle to drop 2 weight divisions. Im so confident Abraham would beat him Id put money on it .

I say Pavlik would still win, Hopkins night of fight was 184, And Hopkins hit him with everything plus the kitchen sink and Pavlik was still standing strong at the end of the fight. By no means is this a easy fight for Pavlik, But I think he guts out another TKO victory
