Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
My first awareness of the sport is an Ali speech after he was stripped of his title. The first Ali - Quarry Fight is my earliest memory of actually watching a fight. I was quite young, and very awestruck by it all. Watching Teofilo Stevenson put people away in the Olympics also sticks in my mind. For the first few years it was strictly Ali, I don't remember watching any other fights until watching Sugar Ray Leonard in the Olympics. Didn't like him, he was too flashy ;D

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
I don't remember which fight, but it was probably a muhamad ali fight.
-
Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
My younger brother liked boxing before I did but aside from Ray Leonard getting publicity, Howard Davis was exciting to me on the '76 Olympic team. Then when Ray turned pro, I enjoyed following his career. That coupled with my mother buying me & my brother the TitleBout boxing game (much to my father's dismay) made me a fan for life.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
Tito vs Vargas. i was young and most of my family was going for vargas and i didnt know wat was going on so i picked the enemy which was tito for them. and i was on the couch and in the first round when vargas went down twice i was laughing and everybody was pissed cussing in shit. I became a big fan of tito after that.

I remember The first time I sat down and tried to score a fight & watch closley.... I believe it was Louie Espinoza/Jorge Paez 1,And I wanted Espinoza to KO Paez so badly Lol.
1990 was the year I became unconditionally hooked,Chavez/Taylor...A.Davis/Breland....Tyson/Douglas and Network TV fights on weekend afternoons.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
Morales-Barrera, um that was the fight that got me hardcore into it. I had always watched the Tyson fights, Jones fights and Tszyu, my brother's favorite fighter was Tszyu. ANyways, Barrera-Morales was the first day my family got a computer with internet, and I went into a lycos chat room I think lol, but it was about boxing.
But it was that fight then the first fight I really got up for was Tszyu-Judah, been a very steady fan since.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
It is surprising i still like boxing as the first fight i watched was Fenech v Nelson I!! After that debacle of a scorecard i should have been put of boxing forever!

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
I cannot remember because I have watched so many.....thinking really hard I do remember watching one of Barry McGuigan fights when I was really young. But watching Muhammed Ali & Mike Tyson fight's really got me hooked.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
I vaguely remember Ali v Holmes and Holmes v Conney hype but not the fight. Also remember McGuigan v Pedrosa on BBC and Herol Graham but it was the Tyson v Berbick fight that got me hooked.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
My uncle used to watch a lot of boxing when I was a kid, but I really didn't care for it.
First fight I can remember watching was Lennox/Tyson. I knew fuck all about boxing then, but everyone knows Tyson was a killer so I figured he would kill this British guy in a few minutes. Tyson got smoked obviously and I left disappointed.
Next fight I watched was Kirk Johnson vs John Ruiz that same summer. They were making a big deal out of it here in Canada because they thought Johnson would become the first Canadian HW champ of the world. So we watched that, Johnson got DQed and I still though boxing was boring compared to MMA (which I was a huge fan of).
Finally a couple of months later I watched Roy Jones vs Clinton Woods which came on free TV. I tuned in because I heard Jones had very fast hands. I was blown away by how fast he was. Like I said I was a huge MMA fan and I thought some of those guys were fast, but next to Jones they looked like they were punching in slow motion. I got bigger into boxing after that, started watching and reading up as much as I could on it and here I am today.
So there you have it, ROy Jones JR made me a boxing fan.

Ahh mate it was crazy i remember all my family coming round to watch it, it was like Godzilla vs King Kong at the time for me. I remember mostly everyone thinking Mike Tyson would win the hype was crazy.
What a great night it was though i remember people jumping up and down, shouting you name it. I was just in awe at the exchanges, heart, will, skill. I had seen nothing like it before, and that fight made me a fan for life. And after that i would get my grandad to tell me all his stories about his boxing days and etc.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
I really started watching after Magee Hatton I think. After that I started watching old fights and it has deterioated into a madness of pugilism.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
Ali/Spinks 1 was my first real fight I ever seen because my Father was such a huge fan,,,Was not really sure of what went on but just my Dada was upset over it...The rematch made me a fan...Again not too sure about what went on at the time but I knew Ali won it made my Dad happy so I was happy...from then on I was hooked

Wright - Trinidad for me, that is the fight which got me into boxing and made me a fan. It demonstrated that it truly was an art, not just brute strength and bloodletting.

Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
i cant remember which but its surely a tyson fight.hes a phenom then.dismantling those bigger heavies.i think its the tyson-frazier fight that made me admire the technicalities of boxing.it was always a brawl when its tyson but you have to admire his style.cus d'amato did a great job.his double right uppercut where he switches to southpaw on the second punch was out of this world man

I really dont think so,growing up in the 70's or the 60's,Ali was god allmighty,I guess if I had grown up in the 80's it would have been Sugar Ray,Tyson
But in both those decades, boxing was still big time
There really hasnt been a boxer in some time that really captivated the way they did back then, for various reasons.Im not saying there havent been great fights or fighters, but just not that captivate factor.
To put it in perspective, when was the last time you remember a major company hiring a boxer for their ad campaign in the States?
-
Re: The first fight you watched live on tv and made you a boxing fan?
I know it wasn't the first I watched but its the one that sticks out the most from the "old" days lol
Chris Eubank Vs Michael Watson I.
