James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I guess they are fixing the mess between Golden Boy & Gary Shaw regarding Kirkland.
It will be good to see Kirkland get some more exposure on HBO. I think he should take care of Vera pretty easily.
ESPN - Legal battle nears end, opening door for Kirkland-Vera battle Nov. 22 on HBO - Boxing

Kirkland stamina will be tested. Vera chin is solid. This will be a good fight.

Kirkland is more than capable of being at least as effective as "the Don" and that was over in two if I'm not mistaken.

Don got no chin bro. Vera was tested by Andy lee, his chin is Solid. I doubt a KO here, maybe a TKO with Vera Complaining.

Vera's a Tough Mexican Chinned. I'm a Kirkland Fan but I will be impressed if he KO Vera.

Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I think Kirkland takes this one but his lack of Rounds/defense could catch up to him badly down the stretch

judge for yourself....this is not speculation that was a good stoppage. There is no argument to be made here that Jaidon didn't hurt Vera, there is absolutely no question about that. Every punch that landed at the end there buckled Vera's legs.

I don't think that fight is really relevent in all honesty. I believe Vera said in subsequent interviews how he was uncomfortable fighting to an orchestral score, and not only that but they kept on changing the beat.
I thought he was actually dominating during the heavy drum sessions, but the Contender people kept speeding the tempo up and he lost his rythm.
Had there been less musical accompaniment I think he would have boxed his own fight more. As it was he got hyped up into fighting at too fast a pace, he tried to match the tempo of the percussion.
Without music I think vera would have won.

First off with the contender he took last minute replacement while the rest of show had been training for almost three months and him only two weeks. Never has made an excuse 168 is not his weight fought art that weight because he is a fighter. James needs to watch out because he is finally getting the real training he needs just like he did against Lee. New fighter new erra for him. Watch for the upset . Lee is an awesome boxing and would handle Kirtkland. He is only five seven with heels on. Quit hating and watch the outcome of this fight. James is a greay fighter dont get me wrong but heart and determination will go along ways and he will be tested believe that. Its going to be fire works....

Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I read somethere that Kirkland is a mirror image of Hatton is this true? Will this fight be worth watching or will it be over before i find my seat?

Any fight with Kirkland is worth watching. He is an exciting fighter that's for sure. He really needs to work on his defense, but he comes guns blazing from the opening bell.
So if you are going, yes, you should be in your seat for this one.
Here is just an example of one of James Kirklands action packed fights. You can check out even more on YouTube.

The "Don" comparison works. Vera should be easy for Kirkland.
The "Don" knocked Vera out on the Contender after allegedly destroying him in the amateurs. Vera was tested by Lee and passed. Lee looked inexperienced in that fight, but a much better boxer than Vera. Not to take anything away from Vera's win: a win's a win.

Yeah I have no defense for that other than to say, Ann Wolfe will probably beat a drum in the corner during rounds to assure Vera is off pace.

Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
This is actually a dangerous fight for Kirkland. Vera is a bigger man. Sure he lost to Jaidon, but Jaidon is a true SMW/LHW. Vera has fought his whole career at or above 160. Kirkland is more polished, Lee and Codrington are both probably better than the guys Kirkland has faced. Vera is a step up for Kirkland in two ways - he's a step up in size and a step up in quality. That's a recipe for an upset.
-
Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I'm gonna be honest.
I've never seen Kirkland fight. But I've heard good things about him and I'l watch with interest especially as I've seen Vera's last 3 outings.

I'm still voting for a slaughter by Kirkland, I give it 4 rounds tops.

Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I'm not all that convinced vera could beat wolfe let alone kirkland. I pick kirkland by KO not even in the first round i say sometime back in the dressing room.
-
Re: James Kirkland vs Brian Vera as co-feature to Hatton/Malignaggi
I'm picking Vera TKO...
I like Kirkland and I think he's exciting as hell.
But I just think he's gonna be a little too wild and is gonna get caught by the more relaxed and composed Vera.

I respect your opinion, but Vera is gonna be throwing looping punches while Kirkland will catch him all night with straighter shots.

Thing is, I think they both throw looping punches...
You could be right, Kirkland might get there 1st... Unless Wolfe can find a way to calm the kid down and have him relax, I thin Vera will be able to fight it out.
More then anything I'm going on instinct here and that's what it's telling me...

A reason to root for James
Ann carries alot of overhead on her gym
See when I take on a charity case, its not alot of skin off my nose,I own the gym,so I can just make the executive decision of,"Oh what the hell, let the kid train".
She doesnt as far as I know, and still keeps taking kids off the street, James was one of those kids. Just the prestige alone will get in better paying customers, allowing her to keep taking care of those kids.
Im rooting,and rooting hard.

Kirkland may get to Vera early, it's possible, but if this goes beyond 6 rounds, Vera will stop him.

If Vera knows how to take a guy deep I give him a chance. Watching this vid I see what Kirkland's problems are. Defense and the guy just pours EVERYTHING out. He was hurt by that punch that knocked him down, but I've never seen a guy want to jump back into the frey like that- he looked like he wanted to shove the ref out the way.

I interviewed Ann and James, both are decent, salt-of-the-earth folk. I have a like for James that I don't have as much of for other good fighters. He's not great. He does have flaws. But he is exciting. I want to see him do a lot of good. If he improves he can be the next generation of the division.
