Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Who should Kessler fight? Assuming the following are even possible (in no order):
1. Jermain Taylor v. Jeff Lacy winner.
2. Carl Froch v. Jean Pascal winner.
3. Edison Miranda
4. Allen Green
5. Bernard Hopkins (assume he would fight at 170)
6. Denis Inkin
7. Sakio Bika
8. Andre Ward
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
I think it hs to be the winner of Taylor Lacy, that would be the best option for Mikkel, after that i suppose Froch Pascal winner, i honestly think he would scholl Froch, he would jab his head off all night, in my opinion.

I think Froch! That would be a cracker of a fight!I would think Froch would win it though,"Just"by points!

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
either Taylor of Froch. i would think he would fight taylor since he as the bigger name.
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
We want 1 champion so he should fight Bute / etc
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Someone who is not a tomato can.
I would love to see him fight Taylor or Froch.

frochs a complete no brainer as B-Hop would earn barely anything for fighting a complete unknown whos as yet unbeaten.
Losing to taylor a 3rd time would certainly put pay to Hopkins legendary status completely so that would seem a no go.
Id love either a kessler 175pound fight or a jones jr hall of fame fight once calzaghe has dealt with him that would be both fighters swansong from the sport.
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
I for one would love to the him against Hopkins, but Because Kessler has wasted time against 2 unknown germans I doubt its going to happen now.
Then it could be either Pavlik ( if he is up to it) or
The UK frog name Carl, just to close the mouth on the frog lovers ;D

Pavlik ain't fighting Kessler anytime soon. That would be moronic on the part of Pavlik's handlers. The risk would easily outweigh the reward.
I didn't put Bute on the list because another poster stated that he was fighting Danish Mads Larsson.

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
He should fight Carl Froch it would be a good fight but i think the longer the fight goes he over powers Froch and stops him late.

The point again though is that carl froch is not considered a good fight to take on.
Dangerous tricky opponent who wont command any sort of real attention stateside hence the contest will be for the same sort of peanuts kessler is earning by fighting second rate germans.
Id like to see showtime bring mikkel over to the US and stick him in with someone like bika or mundine before hyping him through the roof for an eventual fight with either bute or pavlik!!

Yeah, Id like to see him fight Taylor. If he fought him in the States like Abraham did with the Miranda return I think Kess would get more credit and its the only way to get Taylor into the same ring cuz no way will the Yank leave his backyard . Kess will have to win convincingly if he is to get a decision in America but either way Kess wins IMO

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Taylor, Froch, or Bute (if he's not rematching Andrade, which he should be).
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
I recon Kessler beats every1 at 168 now that Calzaghe has moved up.

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Kessler should fight somebody we've heard of. No more tomato cans. Bute or Froch preferably.

Problem is that no one has ever heard of Froch. At least not outside Britain.

Well kiss the Frog and you get Froch ;D

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Kessler said in his newsletter he is flying to New York to see the Calzaghe v. Jones fight. Well, Hopkins plans to be there too. If Joe beats Jones, and opts to retire, leaving Hopkins few options, he may look to Kessler. Who do you think would win a fight between Kessler and Hopkins?
-
Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
Preferrably someone with a pulse.. I think Kess should put on a few pounds and try 175 out. in all seriousness a fight with Winky Wright would be good

That is a pretty good call. I mean other than Jermain Taylor or Jeff Lacy, who are scheduled to fight Carl Froch or Jean Pascal, that may be the best call at the moment. Assuming Bute rematches Andrade and that keeps him busy for another six months. Your suggestion will give Kessler a lot of exposure. A win would do him very well.

I live on the west coast of North America, I know who he is and have for a while. I can't say the same about about Kessler's last two opponents.

Well, you're a regular poster on a British boxing forum...
Anyway, I'll stick to the point that if Kessler - or any other elite fighter for that matter - handed Froch's ass to him, the 'who has he ever beat'-questions would arise straight up. Do people seriously think Kessler would get anywhere nearer a big fight in the US by taking on Froch?
[And quite frankly neither Froch, nor Pascal has really beaten anyone of note. If one of them beats the other, and then beats the winner of Taylor-Lacy, obviously the situation is different.]

I don't rate Froch highly at all, though I think he'll beat Pascal, who is ridiculously overrated. However, the fact remains that Froch is a more familiar name to myself, and most people who are serious boxing fans, than either of the stiffs Kessler has fought since the Calzaghe fight.
I like Kessler a lot, I was cheering for him against Calzaghe, and I'd cheer for him against almost any other SMW, but his recent opposition has been nothing short of laughable.
I do agree that I'd much rather see him fight Taylor/Lacy than Froch/Pascal, in fact, out of the available options I'd like to see Kessler target 1. Bute (if he's not rematching Andrade, which, again, he needs to do) 2. Taylor/Lacy, and 3. Froch Pascal. Although, any of these fighters are better than the guys Kessler is wasting his time with.
Edit: And I wouldn't term Saddo's strictly a British boxing forum, it has a heavy British membership, but IMO it is far too international in its make-up to term it a "British" site.

At the end of the day Kessler has bounced back from the Calzaghe defeat by re-conquring a belt and then going to his mandatory's home turf to knock him out.
Surely more interesting matches could be made - and I hope, they will be in the near future [1] - but it could have been worse too. As bad as Sartison and Häussler were (esp. Häussler), they were highly ranked by WBA, and both of them are as good as anyone Froch and Pascal have ever beaten. The only better wins at 168 this year imo than Sartison was Inkin's against Zuniga and Bute's against Andrade. And as for that last one...
[1] As stated before the Kessler camp has been talking of fighting in the US next. Apparently HBO would like to have him on in February or March.

IMO, at the end of the day Kessler has taken two gimme's and showed real reluctance to take on a real challenge. One gimme fight for a belt after the Calzaghe fight I can stomach, but two (and it looks like 3) gimme fights in a row is absurd for a fighter who wants to lay claim to the title of the best 168lber. I don't think I need to address the lack of legitimacy in the sanctioning bodies ranking systems either.
I'd argue that Froch, though arguably not Pascal, presents a more legitimate fight than either Hausser or Sartison.

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
How about Kessler fighting Hopkins or Winkie?

I'd be glad to see either one of those fights made as well, though I doubt Hopkins would be interested.

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
As if anyone can debate Kessler with a forum member called Mikkel K ?
Froch is all wrong for Kessler and would stop the Dane.
World amateur pedigree, world amateur finalist - he would be up for Kessler.

I dont get why it looks like 3? I also dont get why Kessler is reluctant to take on real challenges, having fought Mundine in Australia, Andrade as a mandatory and attempted unification in Cardiff against the current p4p #2.
As for your last argument I actually agree completely, but I still just dont get the "Why is he fighting x? Who has he ever beat, he should be fighting Froch instead" kind of arguments (not so much presented by you, but heard many times before, not only with Kessler but also with the likes of Calzaghe). Froch has yet to beat a top 25-fighter himself.

This article makes it look like 3, maybe even 4 (though Larsen would never beat Bute): Lucian Bute vs. Mads Larsen in The Works For Early 09
I think in the past, Kessler was more than willing to take on real challenges, it was one of the attributes that made me a fan of his, but since Calzaghe he's seemed different in that regards.
As for your last point, I have to same problem with people saying that type of thing, but in some instances it is founded, though, again like you (I think), I find it is often an unfounded claim or at least one that is made in regards to wanting to see fight x matched up against a different unproven fighter (IE Froch).
I'd rather Kessler fought a Bute or a Taylor/Lacy, but if he doesn't fight them, for whatever reason, I'd rather see him take on a highly-touted up and comer like Froch than someone like Larsen.

As a Kessler fan, I hope you are correct and that this is untrue:
"Kessler will make a voluntary defense; his next opponent may be Gusmyl Perdomo (15-2, 9KOs) of Colombia."
I guess for his HBO debut they'll probably feed him a relatively easy opponent anyways. Not that I would blame Kessler for that, it seems to be the way it goes for a fighter making his HBO debut.

Kessler has fought Andrade and Calzaghe on HBO before, so it wouldnt be his debut. And yeah, I'm fairly sure that that sentence mixes two different things (mandatory and voluntary) up. But we shall see - hopefull before too long :)

I doubt Bute will be fighting Kessler soon after being knocked out by Andrade.
My order would be: Taylor, Hopkins, Froch, Winkie.

Re: Who should Kessler fight in his next match?
My order would be along the same lines as CFH:
Bute or Taylor/ Lacy winner. But Wright would be an awesome match up!!!
