Haye 'up for' Klitschko fight
by Mark Doyle, 28 October 2008
Wladimir Klitschko is searching for a new opponent for his December 13 date in Germany - but David Haye has already been ruled out of the running.
IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Klitschko had originally been scheduled to fight Alexander Povetkin but the undefeated Russian confirmed on Sunday that he had to withdraw from the contesst because of a foot injury.
That led to speculation that Haye could be granted an unexpectedly early shot at Klitschko, a fighter he has repeatedly called out.
However, the Briton’s manager, Adam Booth, has revealed that even though The Hayemaker, who will take on Monte Barrett in London on November 15 in a bout being shown LIVE on Setanta Sports, was willing to take the fight, there were two significant stumbling blocks.
”I spoke to the Klitschkos about December 13 but they wanted more time. We would have been up for it but David is not yet ranked high enough by the IBF,” he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
Haye revealed on Monday that a bout with Klitschko is more likely to happen next summer.

More time to put off the inevitable - getting KTFO by the Hayemaker.;D

David Haye fighting twice in the space of a month??
You can barely squeeze 6rounds a year out of the hayemaker ;D

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
Oh jeeeesuusss ok ok i give already, let haye get his wish at least something significant for us boxing fans will happen in this boring division. Either a haye will win and make a bunch of people happy or b haye will loose and we won't have to hear about this anymore, either way just let em fight the talk is getting old.

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
i dont how real that is coz apparently according to steve bunce who is an english boxing pundit haye was offered the fight against samuel peter but turned it down over "money"...imagine turning that down...what a statement/impact it would have made to knock out the wbc champ...obviously didnt fancy his chances....i think haye made all that noise about klitschko the 1st time just for press knowing full well he wouldnt get the fight

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
Haye is a nobody in the heavyweight division right now....he hasn't even fought Monte Barrett yet and he's already looking past him to fight Wladimir Klitschko when Haye isn't rated by anyone worth a damn simply because he hasn't had a heavyweight fight.
Haye doesn't want to fight Wlad...nobody does

I think that is a bit far fetched, even you know in the back of your mind that David Haye has a GREAT chance of sparking out Wlad

I want the fight to happen but I want Haye to be 100% in his prime when he fights Wlad just so Wlad gets credit for destroying Haye....and he will destroy David Haye.

So the thought of Haye Knocking out Wlad is totally out of the question as far as your concerned?

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
I could see Haye swinging for the fences and scoring early but I can't see him dominating, leading on the cards, or even taking a beating and Wlad losing stamina and getting stopped late.
there is a CHANCE Haye could win but a slim one

He was undisputed Cruiser champ before he moved up! ODLH, Floyd, Pacman etc... all moved up in weight several times between them and fought for a world title straight away and none of them were the undisputed champs of their previous weight division. So why were they not slated as 'nobodys' in their new weight class?
-
Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
OK then why haven't other great cruiserweights moved up and shook up the heavyweight division?
Jean Marc Mormeck
O'neil Bell
Juan Carlos Gomez
Vassilly Jirov
Ossie Ocasio
Alexander Gurov
David Haye might end up being somebody but De la Hoya and Pac weren't moving up to fight a guy nearly 50 pounds bigger than they were.
-
Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
Haye should focus on other things before thinking of Wlad.
I can't wait to see how he performs against Barrett.

How do I know why they never moved up and shook up the HW division? I'm just talking about Haye. Since when did Wlad weigh 280 pounds anyway? Haye is around 230 pounds at the moment.

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
James Toney shook up the heavyweights and he was a cruiserweight. Roy Jones did it from 175. What does listing cruiserweights have to do with it? I'm with Mar, I'm RETAKING my initial stance before the Thompson fight was ever announced, LET THEM FIGHT. It would be a giant gift to the boxing world if that could happen and everyone would shut up on Haye or go whoa, that just shook up everything. It's just pointless to let this carry on, they want to fight now, put an end to this nonsense and fight now. Is anyone actually excited to see Monte Barret? Lost your minds.

...and that would be the wrong conclusion to jump to??? He IS fighting Monte Barrett

Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
Yeah I'd say beating Barret for Haye equates to about what it meant for Floyd Mayweather to beat Sharmba Mitchell at a new weight.

Sod all in other words. So give him a bigger fish to fry
-
Re: Haye was 'up for' Klitschko fight in December
Exactly, I think the only decent sized fish out there to fry is Wlad.

David Haye needs to fight someone either similar in style or similar in stature to Wladimir for us to really see what he has. With Haye taking such a tiny first step it shows he and/or his handlers are worried about how he will perform at heavyweight

Just playing the devil's advocate:
It could also mean that other, more popular/highly rated HW's think Haye is too much of a risk with too little a reward to take a fight with before he establishes himself at HW.

.....sure it COULD be the case but I am sure plenty of guys would LOVE to spark out Haye if given the chance to revive their careers.
