Re: Peter Buckley will retire from Boxing after his fight on Friday!
oh c`mon
the guys great at taking a beating and nothing else.
There was supposed potential in his early days but having lost 250 odd fights id say that was misguided faith.
Genuinely feel sorry for these kind of fighters that just dont have the sense to call it a day and almost seem to enjoy being a punching bag for some 20something year old every other week.

Boxing wouldn't work without the Peter Buckleys mate ;)

Re: Peter Buckley will retire from Boxing after his fight on Friday!
Feel sorry for him? He's a survival expert.. that's why he fights everyother week.
And Bunce said on his show - Buckley is in the top 10 Brit earners each year. Obviously knew what he was doing ;)

Actually he's never been counted at all ever. He's had the ref stop fights but he's never taken a 10 count.
He's nowhere near the world's worst boxer either, he was paid to be a trial horse, someone you put up and coming fighters in who he'd give a decent workout.
300 fights and only stopped 10 times is pretty impressive. Never counted out and he fought some great fighters including Naseem Hamed twice.
If you look at his record he went the distance (admittedly only 4 or 6 rounds) with Kell Brook, Gavin Rees, Bradley Pryce, Scott Harrison, Michael Gomez and Paul Ingle.
Looking at those fighters who got TKO's over him......Hamed (went the distance 6 rounds in an earlier fight), Duke McKenzie (twice) Paul Lyord (10-0 at the time), Colin McMillan, Gregoria Mendina 18 wins 16 ko's, Acelino Freitas, Martin O'Mally 8-0 at the time and Ricahrd Evertt (15-0).
the last time he was stopped was in 2002 by Bradley Pryce in a rematch.
Since then Buckley has fought 116 more times and not been stopped once.
He may only have brought in to lose each time but he could clearly handle himself.
He fought every couple weeks, was according to Buncey one of the top 10 highest earners in British boxing and never got hurt.
He's the definition of a true boxing man in my opinion, deciding to make a career out of the sport as a trial horse for up and coming fighters.
He did well, he wasn't supposed to win, he was just a pro sparring partner I guess but was very good at what he did.

Re: World’s worst boxer throws in the towel after 256 defeats
He's probably pulling in a few quid per fight, so he has to fight that much to eat.
Respect to him though, hope retirement treats him better than his career.
-
Re: World’s worst boxer throws in the towel after 256 defeats
He made a lot of money over his career.
Ultimately that equates to an excellent professional boxer.
-
Re: World’s worst boxer throws in the towel after 256 defeats
Guys like him and Anthony Ivory are a necessary part of boxing. The have some skills, but usually lack real talent. They are tests for up and coming fighters and record padders who don't get themselves killed. Let's hope Mr. Buckley goes out with a win tonight.

Re: World’s worst boxer throws in the towel after 256 defeats

exactly. never been KO'ed either. to think this guy would accept a fight hours before the scheduled fight time. the sport will genuinely miss him, I echp the sentiments of a poster early who state it would have been nice to see him end his career on a high profile undercard.

Re: Peter Buckley will retire from Boxing after his fight on Friday!
a great servant to the game and although he lost many times he wasnt a loser. every fighter he faced learnt something after meeting him
