Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
People keep starting threads about Joe Calzaghe vs Bernard Hopkins, but i thought Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe was even more controversial. I believe they were dead even according to the punchstats which means, nothing in alot of cases.
But i think Joe Calzaghe had the better of it early on, then Robin Reid took over by coming forward. And landing solid right hands that were rocking Joe Calzaghe's head back, and landing solid body shots.
Once Robin Reid found his range with that right hand it was all Robin Reid, and i thought he won by a few points. I haven't got an exact scorecard i may do one later, but does anyone else agree ?

JOE CALZAGHE HAS NEVER BEEN BEATEN
I know this is hard for a lot of people to to get but this is FACT!! you can go through almost every boxer in history and find a controversial result or a number of them somewhere along the line, in fact I bet you could do that with almost every sport
Its a waste of time this thread is called "Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote."
Joe Won Fact!

So i guess Evander Holyfield deserved a draw against Lennox Lewis in there 1st fight, or Pernell Whitaker derserved to lose to Jose Luis Ramirez ? Please stop using the record books argument its a weak arguement, and it doesn't sound like you have any real argument. That can convince me Joe Calzaghe deserved the nod against Robin Reid.
Im not saying this fight is in the same league as those fights above regarding controversy.
But people still are allowed to debate who they thought. Should of won this is a boxing forum after all and controversial decisions are part and parcel of discussions here, it sounds like your Joe Calzaghe fan boy. That can't handle people discussing one of Joe Calzaghe's controversial fights.
If you don't want to debate on the fight or you have that logic, don't bother replying its as simple as that really.

Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
Believe it or not Ice, even a fighter of Calzaghe's calibre will have some tough fights throughout his career.
As sonny said, fact is Calzaghe won a close-ish fight fair and square. Naturally SOME people would have seen it for Reid.
Calzaghe says he BROKE his hand in the 4th round, which maybe acounts for him not beating Reid easier. ;)

Forgetting excuses and ETC can you give me a legit argument why Joe Calzaghe deserved to win ? im not dissing Joe Calzaghe, i just thought i would start this thread because people keep making Hopkins vs Calzaghe threads.
And i haven't actually heard many peoples opinions regarding this fight, so lets get some good debates going i've already gave my opinion above.

Calzaghe won a close fight. What argument do you want? :-\ You'll find yourself in the minority just like the people that thought Hopkins beat Calzaghe ;)

Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
It was so long ago its not relavent.
All the great fighters have had fights where they looked bad and could have lost or far more commonly DID lose.
It says a lot about the greatness of a man when in order to criticise him and find his worst ever night in boxing you have to go back to 1999 and argue over a fight that he still won

So no legit argument ? it sounds like you question yourself did Joe Calzaghe really win the fight. And this fight was much more controversial than Bernard Hopkins vs Joe Calzaghe.
Robin Reid was actually hurting Joe Calzaghe more so than i've ever seen, an opponent hurt Joe Calzaghe. I see Bilbo replying im sure he won't disappoint me, and he will give me an intelligent response why he thought Joe Calzaghe won.

Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
I'm more interested in knowing if anyone has ever seen any of Robin Reid's porn flicks?
I've never found any but i'd love to see what he gets up to in them

Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
I thought Calzaghe had the better of it early.. then Reid started landing the right hand.. then Calzaghe pulled it out down the stretch.
Is that a legit enough argument?

Is that ok?
Robin Reid also won his fair share in the later rounds, if i remember rightly Robin Reid clearly won the 10th, 11th, rounds. Most of Joe Calzaghe's punches were missing after the early rounds. And Robin Reid was rocking his head back with good accurate right hands.
Infact Joe Calzaghe was only landing mostly good body shots after the early rounds, Robin Reid was catching most of Joe Calzaghe's flurries on his gloves.
-
Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
Calzaghe lost this fight i think he should be 44-2 now i think he lost to Reid and Hopkins.

It also further proves my point that he did indeed lose this fight, because 3 Joe Calzaghe fans have posted in this thread. And not one of them has really gave any legit reasons why Joe Calzaghe deserved to win.
BIG H has this fight now im sure he won't disappoint me like the other Joe Calzaghe fans ;)

Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
Calzaghe should have rematched Reid and Hopkins both fights were really close and could have gone either way a true champ likes to prove that they can do better like Floyd Mayweather did vs Castillio and Barrera vs Juarez.

Yeah that was probably due to the BROKEN hand. Makes sense doesn't it.
I think Calzaghe won the 11th.

No actually it doesn't because when scoring a fight that has nothing to do with it. All that counts are the legit arguments why you think Joe Calzaghe won ?
I thought Robin Reid clearly won the 11th round although it was somewhat close. Glen McCrory had about 3 rounds even if i remember rightly

Yes and im still waiting for the money Joe Calzaghe was supposedly getting ?
Because theres no way Robin Reid would turn a rematch down, unless the money difference was ridiculous and unfair.
Robin Reid isn't the kind of fighter to avoid fights, remember he did go to Germany and fight Sven "Gift Decisions" Ottke.

You're allowed to score rounds even. ;)
The BROKEN hand must have hindered his performance a little though, no?
Just shows how great Calzaghe is that he can BEAT a fighter like Reid with a BROKEN hand. Pure class.

There were no real rounds even in the fight, having 3 rounds even is ridiculous.
Yes having broken hand hindered his performance obviously, but that still doesn't have anything to do with why you thought Joe Calzaghe won ;)

Scoring is subjective. You can see a fight different sitting ringside compared with watching on the TV.
I told you why i thought Calzaghe won. ;)

Robin Reid fought all comers i didn't say it was a fact, but i would say theres no way he would turn a rematch down unless the money difference wasn't fair. Joe Calzaghe has been known to be hard to negotiate fights with, look how long it took to get fights with Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler.
When a fighter goes to Germany knowing full well what he is in for, and fights there champ in there backyard. And also fights Jeff Lacy in his backyard, i can honestly say Robin Reid would no way duck any fights, especially a rematch with Joe Calzaghe.

I'd like to see the whole fight again, but I remember thinking at the time it was very close with Joe winning the early rounds and Reid winning the late rounds.
Now, after seeing the last two rounds quite recently I thought Joe clearly won the 12th and had a strong argument in the 11th. Reid was throwing big rights in both these rounds and he lands one flush in the 11th, whether that's enough is up to the observer. Joe partially/fully blocked all the rights in the twelfth while landing shorter more subtle punches inside flush, and judging by the look on their faces I'd have to say Joe's punches were actually more effective.
I also find it rather curious that you seem to rely on compubox numbers to support your claim in this thread yet dismiss them as evidence in the Hopkins-Calzaghe thread.
-
Re: Robin Reid vs Joe Calzaghe Who Won Come And Vote.
The rematch would have been big perhaps close to Haye vs Mac £90,000 is not a lot of money they got themselves out of it by offering small money.

Ok first off I am not some Joe Calzaghe Fan Boy
At the time of this fight I lived in Newcastle but was from Manchester I had met Robin Reid a few times an had followed him from the Olympics I wanted Robin to smash the shit out of the Welsh F***er
But he didn't
It was a close fight and while some people I was with thought Robin had it I saw Joe edge it I cant remember exact details of the fight but I remember
it could have gone either way but was not upset by the result
This was far from a robbery Robin was robbed against Sven Ottke but he lost to Joe
Sometimes we dont like the result but unless we want professional boxing scored the same way it is in the amateurs then there is always going to be some controversy unless it is as blatant as the Robin / Sven fight then I am happy to accept the judges ruling

In both those fights reid had very little bargaining chips, harder to refuse a gift horse compared to when he just fought Calzaghe and thought his negotiating position was stronger.

Yeah i agree good fighter was that Reid. Thats why Calzaghe beating him with a BROKEN hand was a hell of a win.
Reid never mentioned the money difference wasn't fair. He said he WANTED MORE than he was offered.
We thought bearing in mind how close the first fight was we would get paid a decent amount for a second fight, especially when so many people thought I won the first one. I was told I would get paid what I was worth, I was told it would be an offer I could not refuse, in the end all I was offered was 90k, that was only 15k more than the first time around.
No one could tell me that people would not have been interested in a second fight, all I wanted was to be paid for what I was worth! To be honest I thought I was going to be offered 150k and as I say I was offered 90k, that is why the second fight never came. It was shortly after that I signed for Jess Harding.
Robin Reid; I beat Calzaghe in the 1st fight...; I would beat him in the 2nd!
All this PROVES is Reid was offered the rematch. Fact. ;)

What's the rough amont per bout Reid has made throughout his career then?
Robin Reid fought all comers i didn't say it was a fact, but i would say theres no way he would turn a rematch down unless the money difference wasn't fair. Joe Calzaghe has been known to be hard to negotiate fights with, look how long it took to get fights with Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler.
When a fighter goes to Germany knowing full well what he is in for, and fights there champ in there backyard. And also fights Jeff Lacy in his backyard, i can honestly say Robin Reid would no way duck any fights, especially a rematch with Joe Calzaghe.

He doesn't say "i turned the offer down because Calzaghe was getting bundles more" does he?
He wanted 150k. He was offered 90k. So he said bollocks to the rematch.
As ive said before, all It shows is he was offered the rematch. Fact.
I'm all about the facts. Fact.
