Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ????
Forgive me if this has been done before, but where do you see Lennox Lewis in the all time great heavy weights list and why .. I rate him very highly certainly top five without doubt, and think history will show him to be a genuine legend as time passes .... So thoughts please..

Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
I would place him in the top 10 for sure
its very difficult to build a top 10 cos you have fighters like jack dempsay who were practically super middleweights so how would he cope against a monster of a heavyweight like lennox
but here goes in no particular order
muhammad ali
joe frazier
george foreman
lennox lewis
evander holyfield
joe louis
jack johnson
mike tyson
sonny liston
ernie shavers
i expect some ear ache for leaving rocky marciano out
-
Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
I would place him as a top 10. Even though some of the greats had more overall skills, his size+skills definitely forces his way on to the list.

I'd leave him out too. He could well be the greatest, but we will never know because his opposition stinks. It is the worst of ay of the so called greats. Add up the win/loss records of his opponents.Like I said he 'could' be the greatest, doesn't get on my list though.
To answer the question Lennox would be in my top 6ish
Ali
Holmes
Tyson - Not in order
Louis
Foreman
Lewis
One thing I will say though. Ali, Louis, Holmes or Foreman never got Koed in their prime by the calibre of fighter sof McCall and Rahman - avenged or not :-\
-
Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
But no takers for a top 5 as of yet .. interesting, I particular like with Lewis his ability to fight anyone anywhere and the way he corrected his career wrongs !!!

Yo Big H
regarding rocky marciano, i just think he was too small & no where enough skills, he may of been tough as old boots but imagine a clean shot from lennox or anyother of the listed above. couldnt imagine him gettin up many times from that. I think he is overated because he is white

No way he could live with today's Super Heavies, his natural size was not much different to Joe Calzaghe for instance. Britkid always reckons that Marciano had a loss in his first 10 fight that was stricken from the records :-\

He would be a cracking Cruiserweight though, can you imagine Rocky Marciano vs Evander Holyfield at Cruiserweight ? Wow is all i can say.

You also left out Floyd Patterson, and Larry Holmes, and considering Holmes was one win away from Marciano's unbeaten streak, but for a bad decision would have gotten it............
Also as far as those heavies being super middle weights, you could make a case that Lennox Lewis should be considered by the Olympic standard of Super Heavyweight

couldnt imagine many more fights batter than that one
when we discuss top 10 heavys maybe we should class the smaller heavys from yrs back in the weights they would be today?

That ones pretty close, but I would find a way to get Tyson in there,I mean the youngest HW champ ever..............

I used to think the same until i watched a few of his fights, and looked up his record. Amd i was actually quite suprised how many title defenses he made and ETC.
He obviously was a cracking Light Heavyweight, anyone who beats Archie Moore x5, Charles Burley x2, is bloody awesome. But i don't think he ever won the Light Heavyweight title BIG H.

You include Ernie Shavers, but you leave off Holmes, Marciano and Ezzard Charles? Lewis also ranks way ahead of Tyson on the ATG HW list. It's not even close. Lewis ranks easily ahead of Evander, also.

Im in agreement with Ice,Holmes would snipe him to death with that jab,Lewis has this little hitch when he's stalking where he drops his hands and resets them before he throws. Holmes would drill the jab every time he did that. The only way I could see Lewis winning that fight is if Holmes got cocky and pressed him.

Lennox Lewis got outjabbed against Ray Mercer, Frank Bruno, theres no way he could handle that piston like left jab of Larry Holmes.
-
Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
Holmes could be the Greatest Heavy of all time, but we don't know because he never had to fight a Lewis, a Holyfield, a Tyson (prime) or an Ali (Prime). I would love to have seen Holmes and Tyson in their primes at the same time, really can't call that one
-
Re: Where Would You Place Lennox Lewis On The All Time Heavyweight Champions List ???
Lennox Lewis is the most overrated HW in history.
In Britain he is only the 4th best ever
1. Frank Bruno
2. Henry Cooper
3. Herbie Hide
4. Lennox

Brilliant and well put from a realist ... Lovely record in the books for Rocky and ya cant knock un beaten can ya .... but unbeaten against what kinda and size of opposition, when compared with the modern Boxer ..
I agree with yourself and BIG H re Rocky totally, just unusual for people to come out & say ... well done for sticking ya necks out, & mine with ya now too..

He did fight alot of great HW's, not good ones, great ones, and he just destroyed them.
We dont look at that era as a great one for HW's for one simple reason, most of those guys barely made Holmes sweat, his hardest fight in his prime was actually probably Cobb, for no other reason then this, Cobb wouldnt go the hell down and stay there. Nobody knew,or knows to this day what in the hell was keeping him upright. Cosell quit announcing boxing over that fight.
Larry didnt have the Ali ability to just make you look foolish, or that Tyson 1 punch and its over,he was somewhere in the middle

Lewis was lucky to catch a Bruno past his best.
Cooper fought Ali twice
Hide had aweome hand speed and power and woul have beat Lewis.
;D Only joking ;D
Form me Lewis lost twice against opponents who he shouldn't have lost to which for me will always put him further down the list than he should have been
1. Muhammad Ali
2. Larry Holmes
3. Joe Frazier
4. Joe Louis
5. Lennox Lewis

i posted a ittle earlier that t holmes & would swap him for either shavers or tyson, but i wouldnt put floyd in there.
lennox lewis is defo super heavy like the wlad & vitali but would definately disagree on there being another weight catagary in professional boxing

I think lewis got caught by a once in a lifetime shot from mccall & he hadnt aclimaitized for the rahman fight. I mean he knocked the f**k ouut rahman in rematch & made oliver mccall cry, what more could he do.

I like your list, but I'd put Lennox above Foreman. Even the first incarnation of Foreman was plodding, but Lennox could bang and be light on his feet.

Lewis is Number 1
Beat every guy he ever fought and was a 3 time world champ.

I can't think of one 'Great' Heavyweight that Holmes fought between 1978 and 1985, lots of 'Good' Ones
