head movement and footwork
hello people
what are the best ways to improve these two things ?
-
Re: head movement and footwork
The Head doesnt move, what moves are your connecting Body joints directed by Balance and Feet, Its where the Feet are in relation to the Coxxyx that enables Balance and Movement.

Re: head movement and footwork

Re: head movement and footwork
Ive found the best results are through stretching techniques. Plus overspeed with resistance, Ive found moving away from Boxing Principles and adapting other principles from other sports. It makes life simpler, and more atractive for people to enjoy. Enjoy lovely word puts a smile on your face just saying it, its so important making improvement fun. Stretching the muscles to make the joints more adaptable to response of the signals for movement. Giving the nuerons a choice of response, nothing works without them the little Fuckers.

Re: head movement and footwork
I think Im the only trainer that uses this technique, rather then just using a slip line, I use an arrow, you have three slip points, your shoulders and your head.
Its still an all over body movement not just your head, but its a good visualization tool.
I tap my fighters with the arrow randomly, slip when I tap it,if you slip it before I land it,kudos to you

Re: head movement and footwork
Its a system of resist and release example. Put elastic through a belt of your partner, then with you behind holding him back with the elastic, He starts to sprint with you walking behind stopping Him going forward fast. Hold Him for the 1st 5 yards the n release Him thats one way to get overspeed

Re: head movement and footwork
Speedballs, are a useless bit of Kit. If you want speed, train with your eyes shut. Eyes is the sense that slows you down. :o

Re: head movement and footwork
Hey Scrap we like to chat about body memory and how fast it evolves etc.
I dropped a block of stone onto my large big toe and broke the fukker a year or so ago (yeah the stone broke too.)
The nail eventually grew back on that toe but is at least 3 times thicker than the other big toe nail its more protected than any of them now!
The body is great ,
(;)but its still a twit if it thinks Im making that mistake again).;D

Have you ever seen a beginner trying to use a speed ball? They are all tense and they try to hit it by watching the swing rather than timing it. If you rely on watching punches coming to you rather than timing and preempting their arrival, your going to have a face full of leather more often than not. Your brain takes till to decode what you see, then to make a decision on what to do once it acknowledges a fist coming toward your face. It's why bob and weaving can be effective as people punch to where they last saw your head, rather than where your head is going to be.

Re: head movement and footwork
It's also got something to do with balance and prioreception too doesn't it Scrap?
Most people having a dominant eye which will favour one side over the other and interfere with your efficiency of movement and over the long term contribute to you leaning more one way than the other, tightening up muscles and straining some muscles more than others.
