So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
He's facing off against Nikolay Valuev on December 20th.
Watching his rather sad performance at the hands of Sultan Ibragimov where he plooded around the ring and did nothing I really think this is going to be another pathetic and dreary defeat for Evander.
He shouldn't be getting this shot at all of course, I mean getting the first shot was dubious enough but to lose all 12 rounds near enough and then fight for another world title in your very next fight is rather ridiculous.
I'd love to see him win it but he's claiming he actually wants to defend it and let's face it if he faces either of the Klitchko's at this stage of his career he's likely to get seriously hurt :-\
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Of what, possibly getting murdered in public? Yep he's got a great shot of that
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Holyfield doesn't have the power to take him out; matter of fact, he'll get tired simply from reaching up there to hit him in the chin. I don't see anyone taking out Valuev with a body shot. I see Valuev taxing those 45 year old legs until Evander is winded out of his mind.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
He will get hurt in this fight. Its a silly fight, Valuev is far too big and good for him at this later stage of Holyfields career. I think it will either be a late TKO or a very wide UD for Valuev. This is a joke fight in my eyes.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Holy might last the distance, but this really has a chance to be a fight from which he can later trace pugilistia dementia as a result of too many needless shots absorbed.
He doesn't have the firepower or the volume anymore.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
I hope so. What would happen if Holyfield would win. The heavyweight division would be even more f**ked up but I would love it.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Course he has a shot he is fighting Valuev
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
What about David Haye if Holy comes thru .. could be a good name on the Hayemakers resume..

Bad idea. If Haye is going to paint himself as the next hope of the division he needs to avoid a mockery of a fight that would be Holyfield.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
You never know what while happen Thompson knocked out Haye maybe the same with Holyfeild he may land and that while end it never know.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Sultan was a really good fighter, great amateur, great boxing skills. If Holyfield can get inside that jab I think he has a great chance. Valuev isn't very good on the inside, and he realies on keeping that distance. I think Holyfield as long as the ref doesn't let Valuev hug every second will have a good shot at beating Valuev on the inside, but its tough getting in on a guy as strong and big as Valuev.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
I dont think Value can take a shot to well either seen him wobbled alot but Holyfeild was never a ko artist but he still had strength to him.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
If obama really wants to start off things right and help the black community he's pass and emergency bill banning holyfield from fighting again.....even in simulated events on playstation, x-box etc.....evander please quit giving these guys the opportunity to whip your ass it's the name not the fight they care about.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
thing is that if holyfield wins he will seek a fight with the klitsckho brothers as he always said he was going to be the unified champion, so this will never end, unless ends in tragedy

Murder is a strong word to throw about like that. It's more than just a death ;)
I don't expect him to win but I don't see Valuev SERIOUSLY hurting Holyfield before the ref would have a chance to save him... Holyfield has more experience than that and other than being stupidly tall I don't think that Valuev really has the brutal sort of power to suddenly damge Holyfield to an extreme a point as you're implying.
I can't see him having the mobility to beat Valuev and I agree, he is likely to get hit a lot and hurt but I don't think the damage escalates as high as you are implying. :)
as for the Klitscho's... ouch as much as I love Evander... you've got nothing to prove to anybody... I think that's the problem though... he only wants to prove things to himself... let it go
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Holyfield has little chance of winning. But if the deluded twit wants to try and get himself hurt then he's welcome to go ahead. Holyfield hasnt looked decent against anything other than tomato cans in years and years.
Valuev is nothing spectacular but he is too big and has a grasp of the fundamentals. Holyfield wont be able to get close enough, nor often enough, and will get tired with the effort.
If he's lucky Valuev might let him go the distance. I hope Valuev ends it for Holyfield properly though.

I hear what ya saying bud .. but if Holy wins .. and thats a massive if .. it could then be a stepping stone towards greater things, not to mention a title too .. because one things for sure, if Holy wins he wont be holding on to the title for long and someone will come and take it from him because Titles are marketable and give you bargaining power too, I love Evander, but his best days are so far behind him now, yet Id love to see the guy win then bow out, but if he is talking about winning and making a defense .. then someone has to step up to the mantle .. dont you agree..

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
This fight should not happen.Holyfield must have been a serious player in the clubs back in the day because keeping his many bebe kids provided for in life is causing him to cling to shadows and might just get him seriously injured. He should be retired.
This is like listening to a lifelong friend talk about what his glory days were like in highschool for an extended time,You listen at first but then it gets sad.Evander is going to get beaten Im afraid....and Valuev will have the name but will not have beaten a true great, not at this point!!

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
The only thing Holyfield has a chance of is getting seriously hurt. I know he says he needs the money but enough is enough, we don't need another boxing tragedy.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
I like holyfield but this will be a massacre unless his oponant shows him mercy but he has no chance sad when this happens is'nt it

they say styles make fights but in this case holyfield is going to get the crap beat out of him. holyfield 10 years ago might have a chance but today there is no possible way he can win unless something crazy happens like valuv breaking his lag or taking a breakdown in the ring.
bottom line holyfield has no chance!
and i like holyfield

#1 Thanks for stealing my thread
#2 Thanks to the sorry ass mods for not picking up on it......fucking retards!
......everyone has a shot against Valuev......bar Holyfield

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Unless Valuev has a horribly weak chin... then no, I don't give Holyfield a chance.

Valuevs chin has certainly looked reliable and its been over a decade since Evander knocked out a decent fighter so I think we can rule out a lucky punch .
This is boxing though and weve seen bigger upsets . Evander traded with prime Lewis , Tyson and Bowe. Valuev isnt fot to lace their boots but this version of Evander was stopped by James Toney .
Holyfield will find it easier to get in and out of range in this fight than he did vs Ibragimov . He will also find it easier to land his punches. I hope its a happy ending to a superb career but I fear the worst

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
I give Holyfield a chance of getting stopped.
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
A measuring stick might be Holy's performance against an entirely shot Big LoU Saverese. And The Beasts's slaughter of Monte Barrett. But that was then and this is now, and time favors the Monster and not the already aged Holy. This is a disgrace--but a possible future movie and/or book. If Holy wins, of course, then he really loses becaues he will become even more delusional about his chances against the two Ukrainian monster PhD'S. And that would be just plain horrible--:foruml10gc5::foruml10gc5::foruml10gc5:
All in all, very bad for boxing.

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
It's sad when a fighter keeps on going this far past his best. His liscence should be revoked imo. He does not need the money and recent interviews make him appear punch drunk permanently.

Fight is going to happen in Europe so Obama can't do much about stopping it other than revoke Evander's passport.

I've read he needs money for child support and is skint. Maybe he fucked some princess or a queen who needed diamond encrusted baby bottles?
His house, Evanders house that is, is bigger than the FUCKING WHITEHOUSE!!
It's a fucking palace I ain't shitting ya. But he is apparently short of cash, a guy who probably earned my annual wage for each and every punch he landed in his career(hell, even thrown too)
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Holyfield should not be allowed in the ring but because the world we live in so screwed up if he was denied a license he's probably file a human rights law suit and win !!!
Holyfield is not just over the hill he's over it down caught a bus (with his old age bus pass) and then got a flight to Shotville. I won't watch this fight out of principle - Holyfield at this stage is an accident waiting to happen. The Heavweight division has a bad enough reputation at tyhe moment and a tragedy involving Holfield would almost kill it.
Sadly the thing that made Holyfield such a great fighter - his huge heart - is now in danger of getting him seriously hurt. If it's true that he's fighting for money then I find it shocking. He must have been very badly advised because he made enough money to run an average sized country :(

Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
Valeuv is a coward for taking this fight i had very little respect for him before but i have none now
-
Re: So does anyone give Holyfield a chance?
To answer the question, yeah i do. A very slik chance but a chance non the less.
I dont rate Valuev at all so maybe thats why ???

He's got no chance. He's going to end up more brain dead than he already is.
