Holy crap I hope this is true. This is nice matchup.
Berto should win.
Mosley is past it.
I'm drunk, but is MOsley a G or what? He is really a monster for any weight. Just strait takes whatever fight is out therte.z You couldn't give one example in his entire career where could have evber posssibly not taken the tougherst fight hr could.
A good fight
Whilst mosley is past his best this will still really test how good Berto is at this stage of his career
LETS GET IN ON
this should be a good test for Berto. i hope he can pass it Mosley is no push over no matter if hes past it or not. but Berto should win.
COME ON, SHANE!!!! ;D
I know it's a lot to ask, but if he could go out on a win, it'd be fantastic. Sadly I know he's past it and the Mayorga fight should signficant deterioration in his game up until the KO, but it would be so nice if he could take it. He'll probably lobby for a Margarito fight after that and get mashed though.
This is the fight i wanted after i saw Berto vs Forbes i think Mosely will KO Berto.
Shane may have faded some with age, but this is still an entertaining matchup. I think Berto will have to step it up a notch, even with Mosley 3.0.
KO? Man, I can see Mosley winning, but by KO? What elite or even semi-elite fighter has he knocked out in the last 5+ years? Berto is faster, bigger and has shown he can dig down deep when necessary. I think Berto wins by decision and Mosley takes some shots that might have kayoed other guys. I think Mosley has one of the best chins in boxing.
My favorite young fighter vs one of my favorite legends.. Berto wins this though I been saying this kid has the goods and gets better every fight, Mosely is going to be there till the end just like the Cotto fight.
Two days after my quarter century b-day. I think Berto has been looking great in his previous fights but he is just missing something IMO. Maybe it's his chin maybe not I can't tell but I do think Mosley will be testing that all night. I'll take Mosley by UD.
Except that time he couldn't fight PBF because he had a toothache or whatever it was. Then as soon as Floyd had the bigger name and became a PPV cash machine, Mosley starts calling him out and his fans in the press start claiming that Mayweather was ducking him.
Still, it's a great matchup. Mosley UD. I don't know what it is about Berto -- he just doesn't look like an elite fighter.
I'd agree with that - but he does look like he has the potential to be an elite. I think that's what has a lot of people looking twice at him, myself included. I still think he should have been brought along a little more slowly, but he's on the stage now. Throw him in the deep end, and let's see if he can swim!
I like Berto's chances, and I think this is a great matchup for him, win, lose, or draw. He'll learn a lot in the ring with SSM.
Done deal?
where have I heard that before....
if this fight happens, gimme the sugar in a split decision.
I think Andre Berto wins this just based on workrate and being faster than the older man. Andre Berto can keep a high pace up for 12 rounds, and he always has that high energy. As you could see in the 12th round vs Steve Forbes.
He was still letting the punches go, light on his feet. If you had just tuned in to watch the fight, you would think it was the 1st round instead of the 12th round.
Shane Mosley just hasn't impressed me much in awhile, even against Miguel Cotto he looked a bit flat. And against Ricardo Mayorga who should be tailor made for him, he was only showing flashes of his old self. And at times he would throw no punches, and let Ricardo Mayorga dictate the pace.
Andre Berto has some flaws but as i said at the start, just based on being fresher and quicker. He should win a close 12 UD.
Berto wins...learns something new and moves on up the ladder.
This is not a done deal yet.
Dan Rafael just posted this in his chat.
Dan Rafael: (12:20 PM ET ) Personally, I do think it's too soon for Berto. That said, that fight is by no means a done deal. There are huge problems with it and there's a good chance it won't happen from what DiBella was telling me last night. King won't allow Berto to skip past Collazo and wants Berto to give up his belt if he takes the Mosley fight. berto and his team don't want to do that. They also aren't making a ton of money for the Mosley fight so the risk may be too high considering the reward. There are problems. HBO is putting the pressure on to make the fight but I am a little skeptical at the moment.
Mosley cant win this fight IMO. I duno why he keeps choosing the hardest options at this stage in his career . He should be looking for the right opponents at the right time like Floyd.
Shane is going to get his ass kicked, I can remember the last time he fought someone faster than him if ever. Also Berto is the better classical boxer, and he loves to mix it up as well. The only chance Shane has is if he can hurt Berto, and his best punch his looping right hand seems to land a lot against Berto, well as much as any punch does at least. Also Berto has a way faster jab than Cotto, and Cotto's gave MOsley a hell of a lot of problems, also Berto has a better right hand than Cotto which landed at will as well.
I think most would agree that he needs to step up his competition; the question is whether Mosley is too big of a step when the toughest opponent of your career is Steve Forbes.
But it probably makes more sense for Berto to take a chance fighting an old Mosley rather than a Clottey or Kermit Cintron or somebody like that. Those type guys would be almost as big a risk, without the same reward of having Mosley's name on your record.
I always wanted Berto to stop fighting no names. He fought Forbes and I was at least like "Ok I know who he is." Shane may be old but is in now way a gimme fight. Hopefully Berto just keeps stepping up his competition. I see Berto winning this one by decision but I NEVER count Mosley out.
I feel like people gave Shane more of a chance against Margo. Wonder Why?
Because they aren't very knowlegable? Who would have Mosley beating Margarito, the style matchup is horrible for him, Mosley needs to be able to put his imprint on his opponent to be successful, and there is no way he would do that against Margarito who just keeps on throwing, Mosley has way too many defensive liabilities.
People forget it is mostly Mosley's athletic ability that got him to where he is, his skill level has never been on the same level as guys like Mayweather, Hopkins, Jones, Whitaker, Dela Hoya, Wright, etc. I think this fight will prove Berto is well on his way, and that Mosley isn't a true tactician, he is a great athlete who wasn't taught how to box properly.
Very Good match-up.
Mosley not what he was while Berto is still developing as a fighter.
Berto win.
One on an elevator going up; the other on one going down. Always a dangerous intersection for the older guy (unless your name is Hopkins). Still, this would be a great matchup if it is made.
Very big step going from Forbes to Mosely. This will be a competitive fight but I think Mosely is too much for Berto. Berto's chin will get a real test.
I think Mosley has much more left as opposed to what Berto has at this point coming In vs. top tier guys.Berto has youth, speed of hand, quick positioning and a huge push in promotion....But I think Mosley can catch and hurt Berto, impose HUGE experience disparity in tough spots.....Imo.....I think Mosley knocks Berto out :-X
Margrito is not wrong for Mosley the ones that were wrong were Forrest ad Winkey but it was there jab and boxing ability somthing Margrito does not have i pick the Mosley that beat Oscar over Margrito not sure now and i like his chance at Berto even though i like Berto Mosely i like alot more then Berto so i be rooting for Mosley hope he wins this fight. As for your comment on boxer Roy was no better a boxers with out his speed and reflexs he is nothing so i dont know why he was not on the list.
This should be a great fight. Although Shane is aging I believe that his experience will be key during this fight. I think that Mosley will beat Berto.
Very interesting matchup...
Can Berto overwhelm the once considered fastest hands in boxing?
Does SSM still have it in him to shine againsts todays young guns?
Really interested in seeing how this one goes and lots of respect to Berto for taking the fight.
A boxer moves well, counters well, and doesn't get hit. Mosley is relatively easy to hit compared to other guys with his speed, he doesn't move well, he's never been known for throwing a good straight punch which really limits his range. For the most part he doesn't use a leaping left hook.
Roy Jones Jr was fast, but he could dominate you purely using the counter. Roy didn't dominate with the jab, but he used that leaping left hook and that lead right cross, and he did use the jab a lot, but only to set up other punches or to keep the range. I consider a boxer, a guy who is a master of range, who is defensively sound, and is as effective off the back foot as they are off the front foot. Roy meets these creteria, Mayweather does, Ali does, Leonard does, Robinson does, Hopkins does, De La Hoya does, Whitaker does, but Mosley doesn't. Its because Mosley thinks like a brawler, he was such a heavy puncher at lightweight that I think he couldn't make the transition in the higher weightclasses.
When did Mosley have the fastest hands in boxing? Roy Jones was always p4p faster, then Floyd came along in the 2000's and was faster then.
Berto has the fastest hands in boxing Right now. Nobody matches his speed, it is very much akin to prime Roy Jones jr's speed p4p.
When did Forbes make him think? Forbes countered him a handful of times over 12 rounds, and never hurt Berto once, I think Berto was off balance once or twice because he was throwing his own punches. Do you also forget that Berto totally outboxed Forbes in a way that even Oscar couldn't? Oscar had to abandon his defense to land on Forbes, and he was countered every time Forbes threw punches, but Forbes barely landed on Berto at all, and Berto as he relaxed landed progressively more and more. Mosley loses because he is slower and he can't throw straight punches. I could see him KO'ing Berto one out of ten times, but Mosley has never delt with someone faster than him before, and also as willing as him to punch it out. I don't think Berto can take Mosley out, but he will earn Mosley's respect with his power and speed, and defensive ability. The last time Mosley fought a reallly good defensive fighter(Winky Wright) he became very frustrated very quickly.
As for the Berto comment, I think BCD def. gives Berto a tough challenge there for fastest hands today.
I have heard that this is not a totally done deal, could be wrong.
