6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
6 foot 9 inch Tyson Fury(aged 20, and 18 stone)turned pro yesterday after signing up with boxing promotor Mick Hennessy!Hennessy said that Tyson Fury is the next Lennox Lewis of the british heavyweights and he also mentioned that Fury could well fight as early as Saturday night on the undercard of Carl Froch vs Pascal fight!!Sound really good;D

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
We'll just have to wait and see what Fury does so far he's a lot like David Haye, I've heard a whole bunch of hype but have yet to see much of anything. It's good there is a youngster with that much buzz around him though.

If all goes well and Fury gets the green light from his boxing medical and registration before satuday then Tyson Fury will have his first pro debut on Froch's undercard on saturday night! We'll soon find out.;D

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
I'm not as concerned about just one fight... I want to know how he does for 10 fights, 20 fights, a couple years in the sport etc. before I pass judgement on him.

Just hope he doesn't get roped into the british heavyweight merry-go round, although he's probably in better hands than in the Warren camp at the moment. IF he fights on Saturday, I hope he gets some of the coverage on ITV4, be good to see him even if he is just blasting out some journeyman.

He's awkward enough and tough enough to give a new young kid problems over 4 or 6 rounds.
They must rate Fury pretty highly if they think he can turn pro this week and at no notice just turn up and knock Swaby out on Saturday.
Will watch with interest.

I hope to God that by the time Fury gets to the top of the domestic scene that the current merry go round has been packed up and retired.
How old would Skelton, Williams, Harrison et al be by then?
I have a feeling that Audley will still be on his latest last chance saloon comeback fight for greatness though.........

Sorry Bilbo....you know there's gonna be a group of Warren heavies fighting each other for minor british and commonwealth belts until Warren's put in a nursing home, he'll just replace each one as they retire with another protected fighter. As for Audley, he'll blatantly cite the case of George Foreman .... "Well he was 46 winning the heavyweight title, so at 44, I'm still a baby of the game".

To claim mhe is the next Lennox Lewis is bold...also one that can hurt a young fighters psyche....A lot of expectations to live up to especially for such a young guy

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Not sure what happened with Lee Swaby, but Tyson was the first fight on the TV on ITV4 for the Froch undercard and looked very good. Some very strong shots and finished with a very hard shot to the body, of his Hungarian opponent Bela Gyuoguosi. Not the toughest introduction, but very impressive from the big guy.
Tyson says: "I got a few jabs going and that, and realised he was a bit weak. I'm glad I was able to box on this wonderful bill."

Well, as Mick Hennessy said after the fight, they brought him back early from his honeymoon to make his pro debut on a tv card with plenty of exposure, like this one. I imagine he'll look a bit tighter and more ripped when he's training properly.
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
For someone his size, I was very suprised with his hand speed. Agree that he looked quite flabby, but he apparently didn't train properly for the fight as he just came back from honeymoon. If he can get himself into shape and have a couple of good training camps, hopefully we'll have a decent prospect on our hands.
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Was quite impressed with what I saw, but only as far as the quality of his opponent who was 191lbs
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
As rowlesy said, for a giant his hand speed is (surprisingly) impressive.
He's started out with a reputation/story.. be interesting to follow.

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
His defensive shell and way he transitions to uppercuts has shades of Floyd Mayweather jr to it

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Shades of Floyd Mayweather Jr. after 1 fight?!?!?! Let's not get delusional. I want to see how he does in 10-15 fights in that time he's going to fight people who can take a punch, have good stamina, weird styles, people with punching power, and good slick boxers....this dude he just fought was worthless, I could have done better.

Whilst some might suggest you were exaggerating on your own pugilistic skills, I think I'll let it go. However, I don't think we can judge any propects so early on, but the amateur pedigree does suggest he might have some good stuff ahead of him. And physically, he's got the size and stature to cause trouble.

Cmon man, I said his Defense and the way he was transitioning to uppercuts was a shade of Floyd.... I wasnt advocating he was anything on that skill level, but your hard pressed to see anyone in that posture let alone a heavyweight... Seriously now, lets not mince my words:mad:;D

I'm not exaggerating my skill at all, that dude didn't even try! He just covered up and took a beating.
Anyone can look great vs someone who is not trying

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Does anyone know when Tyson Fury fights next? It'll be great to see him really busy this year and get a few domestic fights under his belt!!:)
Im sure Mick Hennessey will make him a few fights. There's nothing worst than having a up and coming boxing fighting only 1 or 2 fights a year.Im hoping Tyson could become a house hold name sometime soon, with Hatton and Calzaghe retiring soon.
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Hennessy said Fury will fight next on the Jon Thaxton bill on Feb 28.. and he WILL be kept busy throughout the year ;)

Mick Hennessy was on Buncey's boxing hour yesterday and said he'd have Fury out twice over the next couple of months, he named two bills he was on the card for, the first was his own Murray v McAllister one I'm pretty sure, but can't remember the second one. Hopefully, someone else can fill that one in.
Just relistened to it now....he's fighting both on the Murray McAllister bout, and also on the Jono Thaxton bill on Feb 28. Busy start to the year for him anyway.

I doubt rushing him will be the problem. People will probably be crying for him to be stepped up this time next year.
Although Hennessy certainly ain't Warren when it comes to safe matchmaking ;)

I suppose soo mate, especially on the domestic scene of the british heavyweight ranking.I mean their's no one who could really threaten him in the uk ranings of the division and as he is that tall he should win quite comfortable!!

Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
If you have a look at the front page today of Saddos, you'll see that Fury's next opponent has been named, and it's Marcel Zeller (21-3, 20KOs). Of course, being German it's got more padding than a La-z-boy and he's no doubt been enticed over with a decent cheque at short notice, but this is still a bit deep to throw Fury in. A 24-fight experienced fighter against a second fight novice? We'll certainly get to see a bit more of Fury this weekend than we did in his opening demolition of Bela Gyongyosi.
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
It was good to see Tyson fight last weekend against the brave German opponant.Mind you i would like to see tyson take a decent shot on the chin to see what he's really made out of.He showed some decent skills and some good patiants too by not going for the K.O earlier. Its always good to see a boxer take his time and pick his shots rather than rush in there knowing that the opponant is on his last legs.Mind you i was'nt sure what the cominator mentioned about Tyson Fury, saying that Tyson Fury was the next Foreman:-XCome on how do their work that one out.Far too soon!!Its good to see him being busy though and getting exposure in the pro game. For me i'd still like to see Tyson Fury losing a bit more weight around his mid section and gaining some more extra muscle on his arms!Thats just me though:rolleyes:
-
Re: 6' 9'' Tyson Fury turns pro!!
Yeah.. he looks like he needs to solid up. Not sure he'll ever look great considering his frame though.
His speed is really impressive for his size. Thought he was gonna punch himself out though. Good little fight with the German being a character and all.

Aye,his German opponant was a really tough and kind of brave fighter too.He had a good character about him especially before the fight in his dressing room where he told us all why he wanted to wear the scottish kilt;D.I think the ref should of gave him another to fight Tyson Fury.I think the ref stopped a tad bit early. He was'nt hurt that much,in fact he was saying to Tyson Fury"Is that all you got?!!":-XBrave man!!

Quick search of youtube brought this up. Like so many of the guys with good chins who make a living as journeymen, Zeller feels he wasn't being hurt, but decent stoppage as he wasn't throwing back in my mind.
