Wow! This guy is on a roll! Another 1st round KO... Who's gonna stop this guy?
i was actually disappointed with the Juanma fight, i mean honestly i like the kid and hope he does well, but since winning the title he's been protected big time in his last two fights, neither fighter all that hurt and both do a Bruce Seldon and act like they were just given the beating of their lives, he needs an actual test, and im not bitching about another 1st round knockout, i just want to see it against a decent level of competition, the following are all good options
Jhonny Gonzalez
Israel Vazquez
Rafael Marquez
Celestino Caballero
Bernabe Concepcion
or even comin up to fight him
Gerry Penalosa
Silence Mabuza
Abner Mares
or even fellow Puerto Rican
Eric Morel
Next fight out he better fight some quality opposition. This is his second fight against someone who shouldn't even be on the televised portion of the undercard, let alone fighting for a world title. I mean, come on, these guys aren't even mandatories.
I like how JuanMa shrugs his shoulders and says things like I wanted to put on a good show, and yet hes fighting opponents who aren't capable of doing that. These are the type of fights you take when you are a prospect trying to make a name for yourself, not once you hold the title.
And thats not to say that I don't think he is talented because I do, which is another reason I don't want to see fights like this. Can't wait to see him against Vasquez though, should be a great one.
We have a saying in Puerto Rico, which roughly translates as follows: "Once you've seen the dog's balls, it's easy to say he's a male."
I agree that this Argentine had no business in the ring. But Cesar Figueroa was touted higher than that, and had the record to prove it. I think he had even given Ponce de Leon a pretty good fight.
So it's easy to come back after the fact and say that Juanma is facing bums, but remember who the first "bum" actually was... the defending champion. Also remember that Juanma himself doesn't choose his opponents.
That being said, I can't wait to see him eventually and inevitably dethrone and destroy Israel Vazquez.
In my euphoria over De La Hoya getting his *ss kicked, I've almost forgotten about our very own Puerto Rican sensation... Juan Manuel Lopez.
Way to go, JuanMa!!!
Jhonny Gonzalez - even match
Israel Vazquez - very dangerous
Rafael Marquez - very dangerous
Celestino Caballero - even match
Bernabe Concepcion - live underdog
or even comin up to fight him
Gerry Penalosa - live underdog
Silence Mabuza - ??
Abner Mares - ??
or even fellow Puerto Rican
Eric Morel - live underdog
i prefer he should face penalosa(tough veteran and slick SOB) before all those real 122 bad a**es
Yeah yeah, that was the most anticipated fight of the evening for me. as i was just nervous as fuk every time i see JuanMa fight. and again he pulled off a victory without even trying. u know what i cant complain too much about Medina because i don't think anyone here knew what he had to bring to the table. his record looked good and it seemed at least that he might test JuanMa a little bit at least til the 5Th or 6Th round. If anyone knew that he was going to be such a bum someone would have said so. So I'm not taking anything away from my boy. i will say that he has to tell his promotional group who he wants to fight and that they need to make it happen. hopefully this is a setup fight for a really good fight coming soon. JuanMa baby!!!! wooohoooo
on a more disappointing note fellow Puerto Rican prospect Jesus Rojas lost a UD 8 rounder against Journeyman Jose Angel Beranza of Mexico. Rojas came in with a 13-0 (10 ko's) record against Beranza's 30-14-2 (25 ko's). i for one thought Rojas was a pretty good prospect showing some descent skills, needing a lot of improving but overall looking like a halfway descent prospect. Obviously not enough goods to beat the veteran in Beranza.
He's the next Wilfredo Gomez.

How you doing, bro? Go back and read my 1st post on this thread. It's easy for people to go back now and say the guy was a bum. But Cesar Figueroa (JML's previous victim) was no bum and still got KTFO'ed. Anyway, they need to bring JML in a hurry now. I'm anxious for him to face Israel Vazquez, 'cause when he does... the world will know what Juanma's all about.
;D
Lets not forget Juan Manuel Lopez!
what was up with Medina? Damn he was scared shitless getting hit by Juanma :o Medina nearly knock bautista out, I thought he was a lot better then what he showed last night.
These short fights aren't good for Juan though, he needs more rounds. Im beginning to lean towards him against the elite(rafa, izzy) but not quite there yet.
I like the way Juan lifts his shoulder as if to say its not my fault he was shit scared of me ;D
Juanma is going to make his mandatory defense in March 2009. If he wins it seems that he may be fighting Israel Vazquez in June the same night Cotto might be fighting Margarito (if everybody wins their respective matches). These would be very dangerous fights for the Puertorricans, but this is part of the business and these fights have to happen. This would be an incredible boxing night.
I think that it has been good that Juanma had these 2 tune up fights, although they finished very fast. After all he is just 24 fights, and the additional experience helps him to prepare for the bigger challenges from now. But, guys don't forget that he also stopped Ponce De Leon in the first round...
exactly, well said senor!! next fight shouldn't be anything less than a well known-descent-top fighter in the division-maybe title holder. if not I'll be the first in saying that my boy is going the wrong way. I'm pretty sure even my fellow boricuas here will agree on that.
I haven't seen a fighter hit that hard at the smaller weightclasses, since Wilfredo Gomez people may think im going way overboard. But i see really something special in JML. I honestly think he will be the next Wilfredo Gomez.

i think juanma will be a great fighter but i wouldnt say he will be the next so and so. i dont want to jyxs him.
Juanma, looked good, that's for sure, but Medina appeared to be only there for the paycheck. On his second knockdown, I don't even think he got hit with anything solid, and just went down out of fear. I'll have to watch it again, but I don't think he really got hit.
I hope that they start putting some tougher competition in front of Juanma, it's time to test him a little harder.
From what I've been reading, I have a feeling that they are trying to set him up against Vazquez for sometime in 2009. The got together this weekend, and they both showed an interest in fighting each other. That would be a great fight, but I would like to see Juanma get in one tough fight before that happens.

yeah this kid is awsome!!
anyone see a super fight with Gamboa happening in the future...
hell yeah my boy at it again. i already posted on the other JuanMa thread about what happened tonight so i wont repeat myself again. but next fight needs to be a top-guy or at least a known tough-tested opponent.
Juanma is one ferocious sonavagan.
He's the man. That guy didn't want to be there so its hard to say that much about the fight, but damn he gets a lot on that right hook, that's one of the harder punches in boxing IMO.
I thought Medina would fair better judging him on his performance vs. Bautista...
JuanMa can def. be a huge star but you can't fool the fans. We know who's who in boxing.
We also can't blame JuanMa alone his team has a lot to do with it.
I don't know, I don't think its that bad, he took a couple of softer touches but he's a very young champion, a lot of people were thinking he was actually stepping up too early against Ponce.
I expect him to step up the opponents soon, at the same time I don't think he's at the point in his career where he's making fights, he's most likely just fighting whoever his promoters put in front of him.
I've seen alot of Wilfredo Gomez's championship fights, and some of his opponents no offense were ridiculous. But i think the main difference is that JML has plenty of good names to go after.
And the division is one of the hottest divisions at the moment, i honestly can see him fighting Israel Vasquez next year. But theres atleast 5 top names he could fight which i wouldn't be disappointed with at all.
A few last comments about JML i don't think his opposition has been that bad so far, it could be alot worse. And like i said above it looks like its a very strong possibility he will fight Israel Vasquez next year, so he is for certain going in the right direction.
And this is another wild prediction but i see JML in a few years, fighting Yuriokris Gamboa, thats if Yuriokris Gamboa doesn't get exposed by then. I think he needs to improve seriously on his defense and get more technical.
dude plz i give Juanma props but Figueroa didn't even come to the fight in shape, and plz at the time of the fight he already had 6 losses (4 by KO) and two of them were back to back, they were just lookin for someone with enough names on his record (although they were all losses) to pad his record, and yea it's not Lopez's fault, it's his promoter, they found themselves a golden egg, now they're gonna protect it
I could watch Juanma fight all day, anyone. He might be my favorite fighter out there especially in the lower divisions he is my favorite. Really, I think P4P number 1 is his there is no one close to him right now imo. Just needs experience and he's good to do a Floyd Mayweather type career. Seriously might be the most dynamic guy to come up since Cotto.
Mis panas... No se me acceleren tanto.
Tranquilos mis panas, tranquilos.
Vamos a hacer sinceros.
People might think i am crazy but i like to see Vic Darchinyan fight him i think he could win his style is weird enough to throw alot of people off.
