Waste of time, Winky isnt strong anough to fight people of Kesslers size and he isnt a big enough puncher or quick enough to compensate.
Winky has all the boxing ability in the world but I expect he will be rusty! If not expect him to give Kessler a boxing lesson as No one could really hurt or break through the defense of a prime Winky.
Probs to both guys if this is true. Awkward fight for Kessler with perhaps not much reward since he'd be expected to deal with the smaller older man.
Very bad move for Wright if he takes this fight imo, but then again he's not getting any younger. I just wonder if he's been training much at all or what, pretty well since the Taylor fight he's squandered his chances at winding down his career nicely. I don't see him being strong or quick enough at 168 to beat Kessler for one thing, and although he was a great defensive fighter he did rely somewhat on being at least as strong as his opponent. Im actually not sure I wouldn't pick Kessler to UD him at his best if that were the case, and you can't expect it now.

i would like to see it no doubt but based off winkys long ass layoff i would have to pick kessler based off that. but if winky would take a tune up fight and then fight kessler then i would favor winky. depending if he looks good or not winning.

Winky throws a pretty staggering ammount of punches..i believe around 70 a round and is pin point accurate with his jab. A good fight, and a risky one considering the lay off.

Winky Beat Taylor and would have got the decision if he continued to fight in the last round if Winky fights like that I cannot see the one dimensional Kessler figuring him out. But Winky needs a tuneup as with this inactivity Kessler hammers him.

Rafael quotes Golden Boy's Eric Gomez, saying that Winky will skip a tune-up and return to HBO in March or April, that he is willing to fight a top opponent at 160 or 168, and that they have been in contact with Kessler's people.
Mogens Palle (Kessler's promoter) came out yesterday (link + google translate) and said that Kessler is about to sign a contract to fight in the US 3/14 next year, but that things weren't completely sorted out yet. He didn't want to disclose the opponent just yet, but it does sound like it could be Winky (who is btw one of the only opponents who would a) be willing to fight Kessler and b) get Kessler on live US tv when doing so).

no way in hell will it be that wide. even if kessler is bigger and stronger he wont be able to do Winky like that. Calzaghe is the only top opponent that Kessler has fought and took punches from all angles and the only reason he won those rounds is because JC let kess hit him, Winky wont let that shit happen especially with his tight defense. if winky didnt have a long layoff i would say winky by UD.Quote:

really not sure about this one for Kess, he should beat an inactive Wright, but theres a chance this could be a bit like Pavlik-Hopkins, can't see Wright hurting him but he sure as hell has the ability to frustrate him...

This is a matchup I wouldn't have predicted. Why is Winky fighting a massive super middleweight after a massive layoff?
If Winky had been more active I would give him serious chance with his jab and defense, but at his age and being on the shelf for so long, it is hard to see him beating Kessler, who throws straight punches right up the gut which should penetrate Winky's turtle shell style defense. I can't see anyone knocking Winky out, but I suspect he gets busted up in a wide UD if the fight happens.
This to me is a dumb fight for Kessler. Very high risk and NO reward. What would be the deal if Kessler beat Winky. Well you beat up on an old Winky right with a long layoff and no one really want's to fight you still so just sit in limbo some more. If he loses my god Kessler was just another plodder with a decent punch. It would be better if Kessler lost then they would pin Pavlik against him. Which to me would be a good fight. Kessler do us a favor say no and hunt Jermain Taylor or Carl Froch down and challenge them.

Not that you don't already know this, you probably do, but I think the idea is to get Kessler exposure on american television. Networks will put Winkie on TV. Then, Kessler's following increases and they next pit him against the Taylor/Froch winner in a PPV. Winkie is HOF and marketable.Quote:

I don't see the point in Bhop at all, whether the fight could be made or not.
There's far too many fights to be made at 168 so no point in Kess moving up to fight Bhop.
As with all non US fighters though US TV exposure is critical. Kessler needs it and aside from Taylor I think Winky is one of the very few that can give him that. From a purely boxing standpoint fighting Winky is a no win situation for Kess, but from a finacial/exposure standpoint it makes perfect sense.
I just hope Kess doesn't underestimate Winky and assume he'll be no good due to age and inacticity.
I think a better fight for Kessler would be a Miranda match, it would be a fairly exciting name and make Mikkel look like Sugar Ray in comparison;D

First of all Winky is not a gimme fight. I fancy Kessler's chances (mostly because of size and Winky's layoff), but it would be a good win and arguably the best in Kessler's career (depending on how Winky looks). Second, people are way overrating Kessler's marketability. No way Kessler-Froch is PPV in the US. Hell, there is not even a way that Taylor-Kessler gets to PPV. It was still a reasonably close fight, Julio Cesar Vasquez had over 50+ fights at that time, Winky Wright was nowhere near ready for someone like that, do you honestly believe a prime Winky Wright would lose to Julio Cesar Vasquez ?
I'd rather see Kessler-Taylor, but Kessler-Winky would be interesting as well. I just want to see Kessler in against a name fighter, he's too talented to be wasting his prime fighting nobodies.

there's no point comparing him to that performance because he is a smarter more experienced fighter now.
Never liked Winkey very much just comes off as a guy who cries after ever fight he loses that was a close fight i mean he acts like he is the only guy to not have the close decsion go his way it gets annoying to me i kinda hope he gets knocked out he wont most likly but i while be hoping.
