Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
:beat:
I don't buy it at all.
He says it happened during the weigh-in, when there are tons of witnesses there, and not one person heard it, or said anything?
If a threat was made, why didn't he report it right there and then while the commision is standing right there. :headscratch:

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
To be fair, he certainly fought like he was taking a dive.

gotta agree with you. If what was quoted there really came out of Medinas mouth especially about the part when he says he swear on his daughters life if he really said that then i believe him.
I predicted lopez to win but i was sure medina would give him so trouble.

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
I agree, he fought like it. ;)
I might have believed it, if he said that he got the threats privately through calls to his room, or in a hall somewhere, but he's saying it happened at the weigh-in, with tons of witnesses there. I don't think anybody would be stupid enough to make death threats with witnesses around. And I can't believe that no one would have heard it, and not done something about it.
If someone made death threats to me, right in front of witnesses, and the boxing commission, I sure as $hit would have spoken up right then and there.

That's the thing Medina is tougher than nails, his performance definately did not show that. Maybe it was whispered in his ear or something. Things get crazy at the weigh-in's. I'm not saying it did happen, but it could have. Take for example, you are at a Brown's game and Danny whispers something to you, would the people around you hear it? Probably not.

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
Now his agent is saying its BS and that Medina's mentally ill

Exactly. well said.

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
He really lacks intelligence. Either way, or any other way; quitting or ratting, he is screwed. The the writing is on the wall. The lesser evil was to just shut up! so as to protect his family. To address a problem with a bigger problem, is plain d..b (lacks intelligence!)

If that's the way it went down than Medina knows exactly who threatened him. And needs to report it. Medina showed toughness against Bautista. But IMO there is a huge difference between Lopez and Bautista. I think Medina just froze.

It's very possible that he froze. I don't know why he would freeze against Lopez and not Bautista though. The events were almost exactly the same undercard of a huge ODLH PPV event. And on paper the time that they fought Medina.
Bautista 22-0-0 (17 KOs) WBO Super Bantam eliminator (ODLH/PBF undercard)
Lopez 23-0-0 (21 KOs) WBO Super Bantam title (ODLH/PAC undercard)
Both were considered one of the hottest up and coming stars, when he fought them.
Something doesn't add up, maybe he is just loco.

Maybe Lopez crushing Ponce Deleon who destroyed Bautista (the fighter Medina did well against) was what got to him.

That is definately a possibility. The only thing I know for sure, is he did not look like he wanted to be there. I felt like a douche on the chat room, because right before the fight I brought up Medina's toughness, and then he did nothing landed 1 punch and that was a slap.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
I have a hard time believing it, but I also don't. I didn't see Lopez taking him out in 9 punches going in... regardless of his punching power.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
The only death threat was when JML said "let's get it on."

No you didn't, I was there. More like a turd sandwich than a giant douche... Hee heee. I'll have to re watch it then and have another look.

Thanks for the support, now I feel a million times better :thumb:

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
No problem. The chat was great during the fight. I din't think much of it actually at the time. You did say he is tough but juanma is very well regarded so i didn't think anything of it. Just making the old southpark remark.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
Anyway isn't the standard these days to claim that you were poisoned after a loss?? Maybe that's getting a bit old hat and a new excuse was required.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
After watching it again it really did appear that either Medina took a dive or more likely just showed up for the paycheck, they should investigate it though. It could be true what hes claiming, either way he wont be back on HBO anytime soon.

I think JuanMa should offer to go kick his butt over in Argentina. Maybe he'll make it past the 1st round.

That was an interesting way to watch a fight, and one I'll be up for again. I don't remember you be douchy...haa. I remember CFH getting chattier with each passing drink or beer. I like the multi color chat too...for it can be hard to watch a fight and follow numerous people talking, but that way you can know and look for particular response.
We need to do it again, and with more drunk people this time. :p
And yea..rewatching this fight...Medina looked like he couldn't hit the canvas hard or fast enough...w/e the reason.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
Certainly not endearing himself to future high profile fights with this ......stuff?If they threatened to kill him in a huge spotlight & mass media weigh-in...why would he not think "they" could arrange a car accident after outing the JML camp and making criminal accusations at a later date?.....:magnify:.Wonder with this 'admission' would lead to the commission withholding his purse.
Face saving at its desperate best imo...I think he froze up a bit, blazing Lopez (and hype machine) had some mental impact and then brought the roof down on his head.
-
Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
Well Juan Manuel Lopez is exponentially better then Bautista and maybe Medina knew it. He got hit with one straight left and that stopped his circling and then I think it went to the ropes and was over. Probably wasn't down for that but no doubt about it Lopez would have chopped him down regardles of what mental state of mind Medina was in or any death threats. Doubt Juanmas people are really worried about Sergio Medina a decent fighter.

It seemed like Medina didn't want to be in the ring at all.
Watching the fight live, it seemed he got hit with a couple of good punches by JML then wanted no part of it.

Re: Sergio Medina Claims Death Threats
Well Medina came out to the media yesterday, and admitted that he lied, but didn't offer any real reason as to why.
"I believe this affects my career because I was defeated there and now I have created this story. It leaves me in a bad spot. I now have to think if I should continue of not continue. I am burned out. I was burned out the day by saying people wanted to do and that and it wasn't true," Medina was quoted as saying by Primera Hora. "He knocked me out good. I felt pressured. I have been a liar. I am trying to do things well. I was doing very bad and I was near the edge and it caused me to make this kind of judgement."

Still the statements of a man who has his life threatened. :p
