all time personal greatest fight watched live
Im talking about having actually viewed the fight live either on TV or actually in person..
Im not old enough to of witnessed the great Ali/foreman/frazier days but have been lucky enough to witness some classics in my time.
Benn-McClellan, Eubank-Watson, corrales-Castillo, Gatti-Ward, Marquez-Vasquez all deserving of a mention.
But for me its Barrera-Morales 1
simply awesome and seem to dig out this old chesnut year after year!!

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
Holmes - Norton was probably the best of the lot for ebb and flow and tension of the fight. That was plain old ABC Sports on regular TV if I remember correctly.
Other great ones were Arguello - Pryor II memorable but the ending depressed me. (TV I think)
Tyson Spinks - Tyson was at his destructive best. Awesome (closed circuit, it was at an arena)
Hopkins - Trinidad - A great boxing lesson by the master. PPV at the bar
DLH-Mosely I - First I'd seen of Mosely, I was very impressed by his speed. PPV at the bar

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
I have to admit that being there for Calzaghe v Lacy and Calzaghe v Kessler were both pretty spine-tingling, but i was on the edge of my seat, especially against Kessler.
I remember sneaking into my grandad's room, when i was fairly young, to watch Benn v Eubank, and having to hide down the side of his sofa when dad came in to say goodnight to him.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
yeah rhun, there aint nothing like the energy you get from being one of a large crowd that is solidly behind the main attraction, especially when it's a native son. some place where that really means something. Neil Young concerts are kinda like that in Canada. Or watching the Toronto Blue Jays win the World Series.

Actually, I'd love to see Neil Young, whether he's playing his home town or somewhere over here would be slightly more convenient for me. Also, the atmosphere in Bethnal Green or East London when the home fighters are there are probably among the best around too.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
My dad took me to the Graziano-Zale fight at the Chicago Stadium when I was ten years old and I'll never forget that one. Graziano got floored early and then came back like a madman to stop Zale. It was an ethnic thing with Italian fans and Polish fans. It was also Chicago vs. NYC. This fight triggered my interest in becoming an amature fighter in Chicago a few years later.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
This going to sound egotistical, but it isnt meant to be.
Two of my own fighters
They were both good,Id trained them both, and for some reason they both decided that day they'd impress me, so they both on their own decided to go for it a little more.
Im barking orders at both of them, the entire time in the back of my head Im thinking,"Id pay to watch this".

Noone youd know, one's ammie, and one's a low ranking pro. It was just a serious solid fight. If I could get both of them to do that on a regular basis,I could retire early.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
The Thrilla in Manila - Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III live at the Araneta Coliseum, in Cubao, Quezon City
( it was a misnomer, it was not held in Manila, but Manila being more well known...)
Many on live satellite feed like - Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Leonard, Hagler, Duran, Hearns, Mancini, Little Red Lopez, Arguello...etc,
but the best would be Ali vs. Frazier I. First boxing match I ever saw, and got me hooked! Equally memorable, the Hagler vs Hearns fight.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
Yeah, it was quite unforgettable; especially I, being a ” Cassius Clay" fan, felt distraught when he took a tremendous beating in that fight. I cannot recall, but I might have shed a tear for him, being young and all, as I watched the fight from our 13-inch, black and white, Zenith “tube” television, with those skinny legs.
Here was I, just a kid who idolized "Cassius Clay"; an infatuation built around stories eavesdropped from conversations and arguments, of Uncle's with neighbors and with friends. Youngsters were not allowed to participate in such adult conversations. This was 1971, what can I say.
You must imagine it was in an era where everyday life is a lot slower, and the big money fights like the “Fight of the Century” was on everybody’s plate with the magnitude of front page news. To finally see him get beat up and lose, and the aftermath being, defending in school, picking Ali over Joe Frazier when clearly, the later was the overwhelming favorite*.
However, more memorable for me of course, was seeing the “Thrilla in Manila” in the caged, and sweltering atmosphere of the nose-bleed section of the Araneta Dome!
*Ali was inactive for a while there for 3 years, accused of dodging the draft, and stripped of his boxing license, for religious reasons. He opened the door for a fan build-up towards Joe Frazier.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
Naz vs Kevin Kelley on 19th December 1997 it was pure edge of the seat stuff i ended up about 2inch off the tv i was well pleased when Naz won. Also Benn vs Eubank 1 i was only 9 and was at school next day so i couldn't watch it so pretended i had been sick so my mum would let me come down for a bit from that night on i was a Benn and Eubank fan.
But ive watched and loved loads and loads of fights but i say the Naz one because of the excitement as a big Naz fan i thought SHIT! were in trouble now. But he came back and got the job done i miss that little guy.

Re: all time personal greatest fight watched live
I was at Benn V McClellan - amazing fight. Everyone was picking the G-Man to destroy the Dark Destroyer. There was a real feeling of doom. It lookede like they were right when Benn was knocked silly out of the ropes but he showed Brit spirit and came back like Lion. Truly one of the best middle weight fights ever.
I was also at eubank V Watson II at my beloved White Hart Lane. I have never seen a fighter fight with such intensity as Watson did that night. eubank described him as a perfect 10 and he was right. How Eubank had anything left to throw THAT uppercut is beyond belief. Anyone who questions Eubank as a fighter should watch this fight. The guy was a true warrior. A great great fight.
I ws lucky to be a these fights but wish I was older and able to have been at Leonard v Duran 1/Leonard v Hearns 1 and any Ali fight.... special times.
