Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
This is from the BBC
Floyd Mayweather Jr wants to come out of retirement for a possible rematch with Ricky Hatton next year.
Hatton's lawyer Gareth Williams said Mayweather Jr, who retired after he dismantled Hatton inside 10 rounds last year, has approached the Briton's camp.
However, Hatton wants to negotiate a lucrative bout with Filipino Manny Pacquiao in the summer.
Williams said: "The fight we want to make, our preference, is Manny Pacquiao because that is a great fight."
Williams continued: "Ricky has made no secret of the fact he wants to take on the best and Pacquiao is regarded as the best.
"We're more than happy to make that fight but it has got to be on acceptable terms."
Pacquiao inherited Mayweather's status as the world's leading fighter after the 29-year-old beat Oscar de la Hoya after eight rounds earlier this month.
The Filipino's comprehensive victory seemed to have paved the way for a bout with Hatton, with Pacquiao's promoter, Arum, stating negotiations were underway - a claim Williams has denied.
"He's not talked to us at all. We're happy to fight Pacquiao but it has to be on our terms," said Williams.
"We won't be bullied or forced into any decision that is not on our terms.
"We've had no contact whatsoever with him. That is the fight we want to make but we've got other options, we will do what is best for us."
Hatton, who is being trained by Mayweather's father, Floyd, suffered his only professional defeat at the hands of the American in Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old two-weight world champion had earlier this year spoken of his desire for a rematch with Mayweather.
Williams added: "Every light-welterweight in the world wants to fight Hatton.
"We've had approaches from everybody. We've also had approaches from people at 130lbs, Juan (Manuel) Marquez and Juan Diaz both want to fight him.
"He is a massive draw and can fight where he wants."

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
I think he should wait and fight the winner of Hatton-Pacman.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Maweather should wait. He comes back wanting a rematch with somebody he has already knocked out??

hi, i seen some of your posts saying you think hatton can beat mayweather, and im with you on that, so why do you think he should wait for pacman and hatton to fight first. i think balls to that, sack pacman off and get that rematch signed asap!

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
...this is a bunch of garbage, yea and floyd Sr. is gonna run between corners and train both guys. Everyone is saying floyd has said everything under the sun hell even quoting a text sent to his freakin niece. The only person who hasn't said anything is floyd himself. For hating this guy so much people sure do jump at every word he says real or not.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
I must have missed the part where Mayweather said anything.

floyd sr hasnt trained floyd jr for years has he? i hope he sticks with ricky and i think he will, its imperitive he does if ricky is going to have any chance if the fight comes off. floyd will have roger mayweather. i see what your saying about people jumping at his every word, but people just wanna know dont they!

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
I think this is just a negotiating ploy for Hatton to get more out of the Pac fight, such as possibly getting it held in the UK or getting a higher split. Can't see Arum falling for it. The wrinkly ol' cunt. As people say Floyd ain't sayin nothin', & Floyd sr might have one of those rare attacks of conscience if a rematch was actually made & pull out anyway
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
mayweather would beat them both hatton a lot easier, easy payday for him i think
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Mayweather says all these things but he's seldom photographed anymore!!

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
IF...Big IF, this is true I think I see it as a dirty ploy on Floyd's part to block Pacman from further cementing his grasp on the P4P title by beating on a fighter he already beat and keeping Manny from fighting him.

Dat evil villain Floyd eh? Logically he wouldn't do that for the simple reason he likes his money, & fightin the winner of that fight would make him A LOT more money than simply fightin Hatton agen

Yeah, of all the guys he could fight:
Manny, Margarito, Cotto, Shane, Paul Williams, etc. - who wants to see that rematch?
Oscar was given grief for fighting Manny, Floyd should be too if he does come back & it's for Hatton - especially if he beat him for the 2nd time & then retired again.

Then your both insane Ricky Hatton lost almost every round, and was doubled in punches landed. What can Ricky Hatton do better in a rematch ? he was beat on the inside at his own game, so if he was beat on the inside how the hell can he possibly win ?

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
I doubt this is even true, no way Floyd would come out of retirement to fight Hatton again, what for?
Manny Pacquaio is the draw now. For the first time in his career Floyd has a genuine rival for his p4p crown. He finally has the opportunity to get his defining fight against another all time great still in his prime and currently on fire.
In the light of those circumstances he wants to come back and fight a guy he completely embarrassed a few months ago........bullshit

I totally agree, and thats why if he really is trying to come back to fight Hatton I think its to block Pac and keep his name in the lights...you know those Mayweathers like doing that!

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Yall come on, this is about money. I can already see what Mayweather's plan is. Mayweather wants two big paydays in 2009. If he waits until after Pacquiao and Hatton fight then he can really only fight the winner for one big paycheck in the fall. He's probably thinking that he will give Hatton a rematch in the UK where the fight will be bigger and STILL make a 15-20 Million purse. If he wins the fight, which he probably feels he can easily, then he can fight Pacquiao for another 20 Million purse in the fall. Coldblooded to Pacquiao because he would have stolen Pacquiao's big May paycheck. It's a good strategy though if your Floyd though.
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
There are two possibilities here (assuming this isn't all just bullshit).
Floyd wants to fight Hatton because he would make a shit load of cash doing it in England, less than he would make for fighting Pac, but still a significant amount of coin. It is also a MUCH less risky fight (sorry Hatton fans).
OR
Like albsur says, PBF wants TWO big paydays when he comes back, Pac and Hatton. He won't let the two of them disrupt that, so he fights Hatton and then fights Pac.

what can ricky hatton do better in a rematch? well everythin really, for a start his head movement will be alot better, hes being trained by a better trainer than last time, we can have a decent ref, and hopefully hatton wont be riled up like e was last time. dont forget floyd has been inactive for over a year.

Hatton did not come close the first time out what would make you think he can beat Floyd now:rolleyes:
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
He could do alot better than he did, but I still pick Mayweather.
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Im not surprised!!Let hatton fight pacman then take it from there! It makes sense.Mind you i would love to see a rematch either way!!;)

totally diagree, he beat hatton, and most had it close on the cards at the time.
however if he fights the winner of pac or hatton at 140 it WILL bbe a defineing fight.
its the one for him in my opinon

close? i had it 6 rounds to 3 in those prior to the stoppage with Ricky lookin faded. Even on sky sports, jim watt, who i think would happily get in the ring & wank ricky off sumtimes, admitted that round 8 was so 1 sided it probably should have been 10-8. It was by no means close enough to warrant a rematch despite the stoppage, such as Cotto-Margarito for example. This doesn't mean I wouldn't mind seein them fight again, but Mayweather would be takin da fight as a payday rather than a challenge like Pac is
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Well forget all this talk, Leonard Ellerbe just came out and said Floyd is enjoying his retirement and that nobody from Floyd's team has contacted Ray Hatton or Ricky Hatton's lawyer. I remember a long time ago earlier in the year when Floyd wasn't retired yet, Ricky said that he'd talked to Floyd over texts and Floyd was interested in the rematch. I really hope that Hatton isn't trying to use that conversation six months ago to negotiate with Pacquiao. That fight should be 50/50 down the middle, let's get it done.
-
Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
I think this is just to up the ante on both Hatton and PBF... They know PAC is the man right now and they would like to strengthen their bargaining power for a PAC fight by saying they would like to have a rematch... They want to show that they have other "big" fights aside from the one against PAC...
Rematch? Why the talk only now? And also I think very few is interested in this rematch fight...
.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Mayweather didnt want to fight Oscar in a rematch for millions, why would he want to fight Hatton again for less. He knocked the guy out. He should wait for the winner of a Pac-Hatton fight. He chose to retire, so he can get back in the line imo.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Mayweather should get back in line.....and exactly what demand or reason is there for a hatton rematch???..Been there, done that.He Imo should be fighting Cotto,Margarito,Clottey,Williams,Mosley.....one of the guys sitting in his house reclining on his sofa right now.Hatton and Pac makes cents, and I think a bigger audience and more dollars...better stylistically, fan friendly :fight:

88-82, 89-81, 89-81.
Not close where it mattered.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
He should definitely wait to fight the winner of Pac -vs- Hatton.

Re: Mayweather wants Hatton rematch
Looks to me like all this talk is BS on the part of Gareth Williams, the lawyer for Hatton.
I sensed this when they came out in press that they are not positioned to just anxiously await word from Arum for a match with Pacquiao. This was immediately after Pacquiao's win, and only a few days after initially stating preference for a Pacquiao victory, so they can battle the accredited P4P King, and a shot at the P4P recognition.
To turn around 180 degrees, completely out of the gist of their previous press releases, they must be motivated deeper than whatever it is that they are justifying it with, with their new pronouncements.
Smokescreen! Create a bargaining chip! PBF have not come out to declare his position in any of these match scenarios. Remember that all these PBF talks are based on hearsay. So Williams' claims are unverifiable. Leverage! They want to establish and send message to the Arum camp that they have a say in the matter of negotiations.
Pretty good ploy, but what they are forgetting, is that if and when Arum shifts gears and head on a different direction, they will have missed the biggest ride back to bigger glory! And of course... they too, have missed on the bigger dough!

so floyd sr sed dis on da show yeh? referencing ricky speaks kinda jus supports daxx in u bein a fanboy. Floyd sr has sed that he doubts that Hatton could ever beat his son, although he does say he wouldn't mind trainin ricky against him, I really doubt that this is the case because to a lot of people it would make him look like a c***. Sorry but your really clutching at straws here, firstly theres no way Floyd Mayweather Sr will train Ricky Hatton against Floyd Mayweather, so you can scratch that idea for a start.
I haven't seen any real good head movement from Ricky Hatton in a long time, he was decent against Paul Malignaggi, but i still felt he was very hittable. And he fought the sameway as he did against Juan Lazcano.
Except Paul Malignaggi basically quit after the 1st round, and decided to duck and grab all night long. Instead of actually throwing punches, and trying to win the fight.
And please enough with the Joe Cortez excuse its getting really tiresome, i remember being on here a day before the fight. And every Ricky Hatton fan was happy Joe Cortez was the referee.
I didn't think the officiating was anywhere near as bad, as Ricky Hatton fans claim. Joe Cortez warned both fighters, Ricky Hatton was actually allowed to fight on the inside, because thats were majority of the fight actually took place on the inside.
And thats exactly why i feel Ricky Hatton has no chance, he was beat at his own game on the inside. Once Floyd Mayweather worked him out it became a one sided fight. You say of all the things Ricky Hatton can do better, which are to be honest really nit picking things, that wouldn't make much of a difference.
But don't you think Floyd Mayweather can also adjust aswell ? Floyd Mayweather is one of the most well rounded boxers of all time, the way he can adjust in a fight is excellent, thats why he is a undefeated. And thats why he beat Ricky Hatton.
He has much more wrinkles to his game and has a much better boxing brain. I think your insane if you think Ricky Hatton can beat Floyd Mayweather, especially considering how one sided there 1st fight was.

My apologies good sir, one was merely trying to express one's opinion, and chose to type in a most quick and expedient manner because of other matters that needed to be attended to. I was held in the mind that this was a boxing forum and not some form of dissertation, but now that I am aware that such literary pedants such as yourself feel most offended through the use of colloquial language, I shall forthwith make the utmost effort to write in a more aesthetically pleasing custom for you. Or not. Dickhead
