I thought Benn won by a couple of rounds, he fought a much better fight than the first bout.
I thought the 2nd fight was a very disappointing fight, considering how good the 1st fight was. But Nigel Benn still won it by 2 rounds IMO, i think Nigel Benn for certain won no question. It was a close fight, but i still felt there was no doubt who the winner was.
I think Benn got a point deduction or summat happend which made Eubank the winner by a point on my card .
I *think* I scored it 115-112 Eubank, might have been 115-113 though. I thought Eubank came good in the end rounds to sneak it. There were a few rounds that could have gone either way though thats for sure.
It wasnt such a bad result for either fighter in a way as they got to stay away from Don King!
I had Benn winning too by a couple of rounds. He was better defensively and Eubanks could not land to his head as Benn was bobbing and weaving.
it was a draw
I remember it finishing and thinking - well Eubank has definitely not won this - but in the back of my mind, a lot to do with the point deduction, I thought I bet its going to be a draw and we will do this all over again.
I wasn't as well read on boxing in those days but it always baffles me as to why there was no thirds fight between those two. There was defo unfinished business between the two .
And before anyone says anything - NO !! THAT GLADIATOR TV THING BETWEEN THEM DOES NOT COUNT AS THE RUBBER MATCH ;)
think i had eubank winning by 1 point
and i seem to remember either the sun or mirror paper having eubank winning as well
I had Benn by two points even after the point deduct.Benn really added some boxing ability in there, and the wharton fight.Shaved head was somewhat nasty though :-X
I had Benn winning too.
I had Benn winning pretty easily
Eubank had so many gifts during his reign.
Benn won this fight ,
Dan Schommer beat Eubank.
Ray Close beat Eubank.
the list goes on and on.
Eubank had many close decisions go his way.
Towards the end of his career he became a fat cat and was too lazy to try and take a fighter out . He blames teh Watson fight . I blame lack of stamina and aggressive mind set
Prime for prime though I think he was a better all round boxer than Benn
Eubanks was good but lost his mojo after the Watson fight. Do not forget those were brutal battles with Benn and Watson.
Anyone else think he might of been fortunate to get the nod Thorton as well......I remember even the Essett(?) fight being nip & tuck.
A bit off the topic but wondered earlier about Chris Eubank vs. Tony Thorton ??
Dug it up and played it again.Have to say....I think Thorton won that fight.....by 3 points :-X.Thorton is/was as simplistic as you can imagine with pressure but Eubank gave a whole new meaning to back foot punch & scurry that night.
Eubanks had a whole lot of suspect decisions but because he was WBO champion and brought in money through the big contract he had with sky he was never going to lose a decision. He said in his book that he could not get motivated to fight Thorton because he was a post man!
lookin at all the comments u culdnt argue with the draw. but with a fight this big there was only gonna be 1 outcum n thats the draw. so they cud have benn eubank 3 and make mega bucks but this wasnt the case
me and my dad scored it for benn
I was a massive fan of Eubank as a child...He was my favourite and I still maintain that he was the far superior boxer to Benn.
I guess I'm slightly biased as Eubank kinda reminds me of a time that my dad and I's relationship was a lot better than it is now as we used to watch his fights together but I feel I'd like him even at this age. (The cocky guy who pisses everyone off but backs it up which annoys people even more)
Benn, however, gets my respect for going over to America to rebuild his career. Something I wish Eubank would have done. Guy had massive heart and determination.
I think I'll purchase Eubanks entire career set and make a more current judgement.
As for Benn vs Eubank 2? Will have to watch it again! :)
Merry xmas
Benn took it by a couple of rounds on my card.
if i recall the draw meant that don king had nothing to do with a rematch as it was not written into the contract. or something along those lines, anyone recall that?
I watched this fight with a few mates - all downing the Stonehouse Cider.
We all thought Benn was robbed.
Have watched the fight since and Benn won IMO.
