Rampage beats Wandy, Mir beat Noguera and Griffin gets Ko'ed
it was a very good night of fights. I was particularly impressed with Forrest. He has improved 50 fold since coming into the ufc. His hand speed looked on par with rashad's. It's clear that the light HW division is a three horse race right now. Well, 4 with Machida.
You know, as much as I love boxing and appreciate the big fights, boxing just doesn't put on a show like the ufc does. 3 BIG fights in one night.
Dana = asshole but he knows what the fans want to see...
Forresst did develop a huge amount, but I still feel it's a good thing he's an ex champ now.
Rampage exorcised a lot of demons with that KO. Wanderlai, as you alluded to is now out of contention.
UFC will always be secondary for me, but they do put on a show. A UFC ppv is guaranteed better value than a boxing ppv.
I think Dana, with his crappy wages, keeps his fighters very hungry for the title fights. Where as in boxing the mid tier guys are geting huge pay days, either to fight nobodies or just lose their edgeiness.
Felt sorry for Noguera, he looked old.
Agreed, but Dana pays average guys better than average boxers get paid. I was rooting for Forrest. There's nothing to dislike about Rashad, but I don't really like him either. Forrest is one that I actually like. I like the average joe that overachieves better than the talented underperformer. Not that Rashad fits that mold, just don't really care for him either way.
Rashad has improved tons also and I am very impressed with his career. Noguria did look old. I was hoping for a little more out of Rampage and Silva, but can't complain much about a knockout like that.
Nog has looked old for a while now but he has been allowed to comeback from a beating to win . He didnt get chance this time. Frank looked really good in that fight . I thought he may gas out and we could be in for another nog - silva type of fight but Frank got the job done and if he is on that form when he fights Brock again it will be another quick finish.
Yeah and I picked him in the 1st fight too . I knew he didnt have the ground skills
I havent seen this great improvemnet in Lesnar that everyone has. He basically lay on top of a washed up Heath Herring for the full fight . Then he landed a lucky punch on a washed up Randy Cotoure. I havent seen any great skills from him yet . Mir is not washed up infact he looks improved from what he was. Brock needs to get him early cuz the longer it goes the less chance he has. I make Mir and big favourite going into that fight.
I'll stick pick lesnar. simply awesome, and improving at staggering speed....
But again, Frank could pick a rabbit out of his hat...
what has Lesnar improved on? i heard he had a heart attack but couldn't finish it.... he has zero subs, a lucky punch on Couture and well Mir beat him once...he still looks so ungainly on the ground, he can take you down and lay on you, no doubt but then what? wait? sorry he also was gassed with Couture, if that went one more round, he would have been the one ktfo imho.
Mir looked good but he only stand up was shown. He won't beat Lesnar there. The scary thing about Lesnar is he hasn't shown any real skill but he's still pummeling people. He was smashing Mir before he made that big mistake. I would venture he won't go to the ground that way again. Just can't see Mir doing it again.
I must admit , this was one of the finest fight bills ive seen in years , was really great to watch.
a champion is NOT a True Champion Not unless he fend is belT!! :o
You could be right but teh way I see it . Brocks the one that wanted to take it to the floor last time cuz of his wrestling skills and he tapped out seconds later . Mir is comfortable in stand up or on the ground. I wasnt overly impressed with Brocks stand up in his last fight . If anything he was gassing too soon .
Id be surprised if he can beat Mir.
As long as it's a good scrap i'll be happy. I don't think Mir is really comfortable standing. Other than this fight I don't think he's ever been impressive striking. I think he watched enough video of Nog's old fights to know he could win standing if he didn't get to excited when he hurt Nog and fall into a submission. Anyway, Mir is definitely more skilled. Brock is just so powerful he's hard to beat. His striking sucks, but his fist is like a bowling ball so he's still dangerous. So you got Mir, how you pickin the win? Sub, tko, decision????
Defo . It was Cro Cop who fought Nog and everytime he dropped him he backed off straight away . He wanted no part of teh ground game with Nog . Nobody does. Thats the mistake Tim Silva made. Nog was a great fighter in his prime but his time has come and gone unfortunatley
Anyway back to this fight. Ive got Mir by sudmission again. I struggle to see him getting a TKO cuz Brock is such a monster that it will take a baseball bat or two to deck him. Decison is a possibility if Brock goes a couple rounds he wont be as dangerous . He may turn out to be another Bobb Sapp when he cant get his breath back in a tough fight. So im going for a sudmission in a longer fight than last time. Brock may dominate the action with brute force but all it will take is 1 mistake and when he makes it Mir will strike again and I think it will be a carbon copy of the first fight allbeit abit longer .
I don't think Lesnar's win versus Couture was lucky at Randy's age I just don't think he can handle a fighter like Lesnar. Although his overall skill still leaves much to be desired the reality is his shear athleticism is tough to overcome. I hope Mir can pull out another victrory and I won't be in shock if he pulls out another sub I'm not putting any money on Frank.
Good analysis, I'm with you on how it can happen. I still got Lesnar. I think it's a tko, ref steps in cause Mir is taking to much punishment. I also think it's a repeat of the first fight, without the sub, and a little longer, not enough for Brock to gas, enough for the ref to pull him off.
bullseye.
