What should Hatton do vs Pac?
What would you tell Hatton to do to beat Pac if you were in his corner?
Sure, I can see hardcore Pac fans come in here and say Hatton has nothing at all, Pac is invincible, etc. But for everybody else, what would be the right strategy for Hatton? Advantages, disavantages, things to avoid, etc.

id be telling hatton to keep the pressure on for 3 mins of every round, pressure busts pipes, and not to lunge in, and to move his head to confuse pacman. im feeling very confident that hatton is gonna tko/ko the pacman with some leathal body punching business! the pacman can be vulnerable to those body shots and i feel as soon as pacman has felt 1 of those he will slow down and the KO will be much easier. Id also be telling hatton to keep the fight at his pace, get pacman on the ropes and beat the crap out of him! lol

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
If I were in Hatton's corner I would tell him to back up, be the boxer and each time he catches Pac jump in unload a few to the body and get back out. I don't think Hatton could trade with PAC, but I do think he could catch him coming in.

really! hatton has always been an in your face come forward type. I feel the opposite, i think its rickys fight if he trades with pacman. espescially as its at hattons weight.

He tries to get in head first against PAC he gets laid out. PAC's punches are much straighter, his upperbody movement is also better, there is no reason to play to your opponents strengths.

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
I know Pac-man is a great all around fighter but I think he is at his best middle to long range.
With this in mind I think Hatton's best chance might be to go balls to the wall like he did against KT.
Close the distance fast and work in side to the body with short hooks.Dont stand in front of Manny doing nothing, lots of head movement.
But dont get drawn into toe to toe slugging as that would suit Pac-Man .
Who has the advantage in speed in this one? I would say Pac:rolleyes:

thats why hatton needs good head movement so hes not lunging in but hes always gotta be right there in front of him not givin pac a moments rest.

If Hatton comes straight in (which is EXACTLY what Roach and Pac will train for), Pac will step back and turn Hatton while landing those meaningful straight lefts that Hatton loves to eat.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
What Hatton should do is go straight after Pacquiao with body shots to slow Pacquiao down and take some sting out of his punches. He has to mug and maul Pacquiao throwing as many punches to the body as he can getting on the inside as much as possible to use his uppercut and other arsenal of punches. He has to be relentless going after Pacquiao not giving him any room to throw that straight left. Trying to be technical on the outside with Pacquiao just aint going to work with Pacquiao's current skill set. Hatton has to forget about boxing on the outside all together and be that finesse slugger using his mastery on the inside to win this fight.
But we just aint going to see this from Hatton in this fight, not this time around anyway. He's got to get over the loss he had from Mayweather Jr getting beat by Pacquiao will bring him around.
Hatton has Mayweather Sr. in his corner and Hatton is listening to him. That means Hatton is going to continue to do what he did with Malignaggi Jabing his way cutting off the ring to get inside against Pacquiao while to trying to pin him on the ropes. Hatton would get little love tap jabs from Malignaggi on the outside and just walk through them. He'll get taps from Pacquiao but they'll be bad intentions with them to the point were Hatton's aggression is stopped. Buy the 4th round we should see the Ricky of old start to coming back but by then Pacquiao will really get his rhythm going and start to pick Hatton apart. Hatton will get frustrated by the 6-7th rounds and then the real battle should start. All this will be happening while Mayweather Sr. is shouting at Hatton telling him to box step to the side and use his hook more after the jab. By the 10th round Hatton won't have anything left and Pacquiao will knock out Hatton. After this fight, Hatton will fire Mayweather Sr. looking for Hatton/Pacquiao II

That will only work with a guy that doesn't know how to cut off the ring and Hatton knows how to cut off the ring. Pacquiao will land some of those straight lefts but not like he did against DLH.

Mayweather snr will have a good game plan for the fight.
Hatton will have to move his head on the way in and from time to time go in behind his jab not being to predictable once on the inside bang the body and use the uppercut and keep Manny backed up against the ropes aslong as possible.
1 thing that could spell disaster for Ricky if he fights like he did against Lazcanno he got hit with good combination that night, and if Manny catches him like that it will mess him up.But his defence has improved under Mayweather snr so hoping that wont happen.

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
There are only two styles that Pacquiao have not figured out yet to date IMHO. That is the backing-up/counters, (JMM 1&2, EM 1, and MAB 2) and the slick+(dirty style), for lack of a better term, of fighting (Agapito Sanchez, Torrecampo, 3k battery).
Erik Morales, almost lost the first fight when in the last few rounds, he decided to slug it out with Pacquiao. We must consider that Morales has... superior hand speed much like Marquez and Barrera. That is the reason why they can hurt Manny. With that handspeed, they can trade a bit on instances, when opportunity presents itself.
If you fall under that hand speed with your list of skills, better not trade punches, for it will work severely against your conditioning!
Body blows when unsuccessful is easily susceptible to violent counter punches!

too obvious, Roach already knows it and will have strategy against it.
Do you think MP is vulnerable to body shots? Barrera, Morales and Marquez could have exposed him years ago. people always bring up pacman's loss via bodyshot....geeeez...that was waaaaaayyyyyy more than a DECADE AGO!!!! he was young, lacked discipline to prepare and maintain his weight and that got him into trouble. If your pinning your hopes on that, say goodbye to Hatton. Manny is totally different today!

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Hatton should hit Pacman in the body. Remember, Pac hasn't been TKoed/KOed via his chin. HAtton chance of winning is only through a TKO.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Hatton has to put pressure on Pacquiao, close the gap quickly, head movement coming in, work the body on the inside, rough him up.
Hatton will get dominated if he tries to box with Pacquiao.

Obviously I mean with head movemnt and trying to pick off shots on the way in.
I think it will be strange for Pac man to have somone going at him(with skill+thought) instead of away from him.
Pac might struggle to fine room for his punches.
The more I think aboout it I thnk Ricky is going to win this.

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
When Hatton is on the inside instead of grabbing till the ref calls brake i would like to see him jab while he steps out of range that will stop manny coming straight back at him with combinations aslong as hatton can land it.

Im not talking about his KO loss via a bodyshot, im thinkin more of that left hook that marquez threw from a long way out in their rematch, that really hurt him. I just think hatton has more of a powerfu body shot than marquez.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
I think its gonna end up a very rough fight, Hatton may try to box a bit and he does have quick hands and a nice left hook but if Manny does land those lefts I think it will get rough.
Remember, Malignagi was supposed to be tough, Hatton made him fight scared, I think Manny is going to get a shock when he feels Rickys strength and sees his speed, even Floyd was getting caught a little early on, more than hes used to and Manny is much more open to be hit.
Im pretty sure that Roach is taking this fight more serious than the De La Hoya fight, he knew that De La Hoya wasnt going to do much and then the idiot came in 2lbs under and did bugger all and made Pacquiao look like Robinson;D
In much the same way that Manny was made to look better by Oscar I think Ricky will be made to look better better by Manny, the strength has to play a part, Oscar couldnt use his because he took his own away and all his energy, Ricky will fight and will punch and will be on Pacquiao.
We havent seen how Manny deals with strength yet, Diaz was there to be hit, Oscar had nothing at the stupid weight he came in at, Ricky will be a monster compared to anyone Pacquiao has fought before but I can still see Hatton getting caught a few times by the left, its how he deals with that, Ricky took some nice shots from Mayweather before he got clumped, im not too sure Manny is gonna be a very big puncher in this weight.

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
It seems like we always attribute Pacquiao's win more on the undoing of any opponent, than to merit what it really amounts to, is Pacquiao's doing.
This plainly is poor judgment, or disrespect.
Clearly, anybody who's familiar with Pacquiao; his fighting style, and his capability, is likewise familiar with the jab, jab, left straight. This Pacquiao staple, right jab, followed by another right jab, and finished with a smoking left straight, felled many a name fighters.
For sure, the dela Hoya camp is not remiss, and under prepare against this. Well, they actually overdid it! This was the main thrust of their strategy, much like that of JMM.
How many of this jab, jab left straight did they see in the first six rounds of the fight when it was still relevant to the actual fight? Say six! The abysmal number, that Pacquiao employed this staple arsenal, is what threw off dela Hoya’s game plan. As the fight progressed, they have no alternative plan. The downtrend became irreversible!
To expound more is to give away precious info against my boy, the PacMan.
The fight is a case for one’s good game plan, winning, overcoming the other.
I will leave with that. It would be nice if people will watch tape again before they fill the “posts neighborhood” with mush, or disrespect! :) ;) ;D

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
I tried reading and understanding that and its just jibbering nonesense:p

Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
I think the main thing hatton needs to do is stay close to manny constantly and therefore neutralise any speed because manny won't have the room. I can't say I've saw manny fight a mostly on the inside kinda fight so it will be interesting to see how that pans out, and at the same time we've all saw what happens when Hatton cannot close the gap down effectively.. he gets caught with ALOT of straights.. (I think Floyd caught him with 6-7 HARD rights to the chin as hatton was trying to close the gap down at times).
I think if hatton was still with Billy Graham he wouldn't stand half as much of a chance against manny but not only has floyd snr revitalised his career ambitions he will also teach him alot of stuff.. where as I don't think there is much more roach can teach pac man..
The last thing I bare in mind with manny is his chin has not truly been tested above featherweight.. correct me if I'm wrong but DLH didn't land one solid punch throughout the fight. What will we see if hatton catches manny with a banger? Where as we've seen the kind of punches hatton can take, especially when he walked through anything kosta threw at him and kept closing him down. A very interesting fight this one will be, potential fight of the year???
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Hatton should work Manny's body HARD.
He should Clinch and fight inside of the clinch, cause as far as I know Pacquiao isnt very good in clinch fighting.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Hatton should take the fight inside... This is the only place where Hatton's shorter arms are NOT at disadvantage... This is one of the few PAC fights where PAC will enjoy a 2" reach advantage... Hmmnn interesting... What could be the result with PAC having a 2" reach advantage? ;)
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
"Keep countering and be the boss" that's all I have to say.
Btw Chino, when do you think you're going to see pacfans reaction when Pacquiao get his next defeat? Obviously the DLH fight was big disapointment for you. :p;)
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
he should start training..should focus on his speed...;)

This is a nice addition to my previous post. Robert Garcia, Oscar dela Hoya's conditioning coach is interviewed by Brent Matteo Alderson of BoxingScene.com.
BoxingScene.com: Did Oscar grow old overnight? What happened that night?
Robert Garcia: It was confusion. He didn’t tell me he didn’t have it that night as far as energy. You know what happened and it never happened to him and it happened a little with Steve Forbes, he got lackadaisical and got hit with clean shots. And from what I hear from Joe Chavez, the left hand that hit him in the first round was so clean he was already dazed. Oscar is a hard guy to get to, so the confusion with the southpaw style added to the fact that Manny was hitting him flush with that straight left hand took him mentally out of his game and for the first time he was fuzzy in his head, he was kind of dazed from some of the punches he took. I mean Oscar is a hard guy to get a glove on, he knows how to slip and slide and get out of there, he uses his feet, but because of the southpaw style he wasn’t stalking him or retreating the way he normally does because he was confused. All the big shots Manny landed that night had a snow ball effect. So number one it was frustration.
BoxingScene.com: There has been rumors about a possible fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Does Oscar have anything left?
Robert Garcia: Yeah Oscar has two more fights in him if he does what he needs to do. Go back to Mayweather, get the right sparring. From his reflexes, from his speed, from all the things he still possesses he’s not a shot fighter - he had a bad outing

Calm down Mr. Miles.... I did not stray too far. Just an addition to a prior post.
Hatton has to stick to a solid gameplan, and not get discouraged as Oscar did, when confronted initially with Pacquiao's baffling approach to fighting. They always say, the best of plans gets severely tested after one solid punch.
If you read up on the Garcia write up, accordiing to Joe Chavez, Oscar was nailed so solidly in the first round that it ruined their approach to the fight. Any other things they were trying to do became difficult because Oscar got discouraged.
This is what Hatton need to avoid. To load up on some psychological strengthening stuff, like it or not, of course ale is not it! (LOL)
Bar room brawl? Body attack? Is all good, as long as you stick with it and not change game plans in the middle of the fight.

Manny isnt even all that baffling. He is fast, that is all. Oscar is a silly old homo that doesnt know how to fight anymore. And that became obvious.
Hatton is not the type to get discouraged. He will come forward until the end. And he will hit Manny on the chops. Repeatedly. Manny is the one who wont like it. Manny can throw more. But he will be getting hit harder.
Hatton is simply too big, and that will be the key difference.
All this talk of Oscar and the gayness factor. Forget it. Pac has a war now. And his turn is done. ;)
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Hatton must establish effective bodywork early.
He msut also repair that hole in his defense that southpaws always sneak their left hand through.
I think he needs to establish both the jab and straight right.
In doing so I think he can walk through as he did with Tszyu.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
To try and pin Pac against the ropes and pound away to the body would be the ideal thing to tell him to do. I just don't know how he's going to be getting him there. Then again Floyd is a better trainer than me and I suppose he will be breaking Pacs style down right now and figuring a way to do it.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Not fight him,its a no win situation for Hatton.
If Pac wins,he becomes commercially unviable, see DLH
If Ricky wins,he beat up on a puffed up little guy, see all the credit Hopkins didnt get for Trinidad and DLH
Its a no win situation
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Oscar stood in front of Pac and took tons of solid shots, he didnt run and try to avoid them, he got pulled out because he went in too light and had no energy, Pac may have buzzed Oscar because he was light headed from the weight, I mean he took some shots off Hopkins who has hurt Pavlik, Calzaghe and Tarver.

Good points. Oscar has one of the best chins I've seen from the modern day fighters.
-
Re: What should Hatton do vs Pac?
Yep, even though I didnt think Pac would win, I think with hind sight seeing how ridiculously light Osacr came in thhat this win has made Pac look alot better than he is and in turn will make Hatton seem alot better.
Oscar coming in a welter where he has fought 2 weights above would have been like Pacquiaomoving back down to to feather and weighing 2 pounds under, im sure hed have given a listless performance as well.
