what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I was thinking what fight made you a fan. I always got to see boxing along with my father, the only problem was I wanted too see the fights LIVE on television and most of them was like 3-4 AM so I often feel asleep :-\.
Since Mogens Palle was the only promotor in denmark the bums he got over didn´t exite me so I looked to US where the boxingscene was great.
Anyway I thought MikeTyson was a beast in his prime, didn´t like the guy that much but love the fights anyway, and the drama that goes with great KO´s.
For me the night in 1990 thats nearly 19 years ago where I was 14 years old and Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas fought one to remember. For this fight I was at an age where I was able to keep awake for the fight, eventhough it that was on early in the morning. And I taped it for my friends.
The fight had it all, the knock down where you could argue Douglas didn´t beat the count, and the great KO in the 10th round, where the underdog took Tyson to school. I watched the KO over and over again, to be sure it was really night for the prime beef Tyson  nah ;D.
Still wonder what really happened to Tyson since he clearly underestimated Douglas that night.
Which fight is your favorite and why ?
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Yeah Douglas was awesome that night vs Tyson. If not the best fight ever, then probably the most memorable. Stunning.
Anyways, for my best I pick Leonard Hearns I. For drama, intensity, ebb and flow. I was never a huge fan a Leonard, thought he was a media darling, but I had to give him credit that night, this was when I knew Leonard was one of the greatest, the way he raised his game when he really needed to.
And an honorable mention for a more obscure fight, Cornelius Boza Edwards vs Rafael Bazooka Limon. 15 rounds of boxer vs brawler action, great contrast of styles.

Great fights here. One of the best HW fights I ever saw was Holyfield vs. Dokes, what a war!

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Actually ICE, I just re-read the initial post and can't determine in which way he meant it.

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Barrera Morales 1
I was totally buzzing watching them both go to war, it's my favourite fight by far.

Good call. I think the first fight of the trilogy is one of the most appropriate to recruit new fans BTW.
There are so many options, but I think I was the most excited after i saw RJJ vs. Richard Hall.
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I've been around boxing for 45+ years. So I saw many great fights. My all time favorite was Kevin Kelly vs Prince Naseem Hamed. Back and forth action with one counter left ending the fight.
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I didn't see it live but my favourite fight ever has to be Hagler-Hearns. Just out and out excitement but it could never have lasted long fighting at that pace. I must have seen it 200 times and I still get goosebumps now! Quality.
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I thought Barrera/Morales 3 was incredible.
But all time favourite has Castillo/Corrales 1 - quite simply the most brutal 10 rounds of boxing you'll ever see and a safe bet that neither guy was the same after.
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Funny part of this thread is the separating of,man I really enjoyed that fight, because it turned out how I wanted it too,and it was just a great fight.
I went for any Of the Ali Frazier fights, because they were just wars. But if you went for which fight do I go to watch when Im in a crappy mood,Ive watched Hopkins-Trinidad more times then I can count, but thats just self gratification, even though nobody gave him an iota of a chance to win,Bernard takes Tito to school,I watch that even more then what he did to Tarver,I allmost feel bad for Tarver in that fight because you can see it in his eyes,he's totally lost in there. Trinidad is more gratifying probably because of all the BS you hear out of Trinidad's corner and from Foreman all throughout the fight.

I did Trainer - so much so that I plunked down $50 at 7 to 1 for the KO... After round 10 I thought Tito would go the distance, but Bernard stepped it up and man was I happy when I saw Tito's old man waving the towel.
That was '01 and I remember they had to postpone it coz of 9/11. And THEN a few weeks later, I cleaned up on Tszyu KO'ing Judah.
I was on a purple patch...

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Hagler-Hearns: non-stop brawling.
Holyfield-Bowe 1: the 11th round had good action and Holyfield showed alot of heart.

Probably;D I've never been a huge Hopkins fan - but if you are a boxing fan you MUST respect him, and that fight was his crowning achievement. DLH showed the keys to beating Tito, but Bernard just defused EVERYTHING in his arsenal and Tito was never Tito again.

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I can't pick a single fight for fights that I've seen. I can tell you that I became a boxing fan from watching replays on weekend afternoons on network television. Fights like Hagler/Antuefermo, Leornard/Duran 1 & 2, numerous Larry Holmes fights, Ray Mancini, Arguello, Benitez., Hearns. Even Tyson fights made it to network TV at that time.
I didn't watch fights live until the Tyson era. I didn't live with my Dad so I couldn't order PPV and nobody in my house would watch HBO fights live. I could pick them up on replays. When I got older, I would go to my dad's and watch fights at his house. I think the first PPV fight I saw was Tyson/Ruddock 1 with my Dad, but The first GREAT fight I saw live, on PPV, was Holyfield/Bowe.
I remember my dad thinking at first that Bowe hadn't done enough to 'take' the title and I told him that he was crazy, Evander won clearly. Then he saw Evander's face in the post fight interview and changed his mind. He didn't know how to score a fight :)
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Damn so many but I know 2 of my favorites are Cotto/Margarito and Ward/Emanuel Augustus....Just good fights imo....I've watched the Ward/Augustus fights I don't know how many times.
-
Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
Live on TV - off the Top of my head I'd say Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan as that was a War.
I watched both Fidel Bassa vs Dave McCauley when I was younger and they were awesome fights (should be getting a d/l of them soon from Herb)
McGuigans defense against Danilo Cabrera was an exciting fight from memory but another I need to see again.
Non Live there have been many - Ron Lyle vs George Foreman sticks out.
-

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
As a youngster living in london, england apart from the superfights we never got american fights at all.
The only time boxing would come on is if it was a domestic card.
I genuinely recollect half the family around my rich aunts as a youngster all going crazy for the nigel benn-chris eubank fights and that was pretty much what hooked me and many of the youth growing up in early 90s britain onto boxing.
The love for benn was only matched for the hatred people felt towards eubank and it was great entertainment for a young lad who had never really paid any attention to the sport.

Re: what is the greatest fight you have seen ?
I've seen a bunch of good ones over the years and it would be hard to pick one. But HAGLER/HEARNS has to be my favorite because of the fact that it was a major event in the days before 12 rounders and payper view. Marvelous Marvin was the Undisputed Champion and The Motor City Cobra was the first real threat to dethrone him. Both guy's actually taped Pizza Hut commercials BEFORE the fight in the event that the winner's commercial would run the next day.
Everyone now knows that they put on three of the most exciting rounds in the history of the game. Marvin came out on top but was hurt and cut bad before he knocked Tommy into another zipcode. Tommy's Motown Posse with thier Jeri curls had to carry him from the ring.
It was Marvin's commercial that ran nationally on all the morning news shows the very day. His entertaining commercial ran something like this: He took a bite of his Pizza and as the camera panned back from him he said: "mmm, I wonder what the other guy is eating, probably SOUP!
Hagler/ Hearns is my number one. The rest are not listed in any order but left an impression on me.
- Foreman/Lyle... WOW
- Holmes/Norton.... Great last round
- Arguello/Pryor (both fights)... AMAZING
- Mancini/Kim... Sad ending to a great fight
- Hearns/Leonard... Exciting... Lived up to the hype.
- Gatti/ Ward... All good fights
- Corales/Castillo... Gotta be on everyone's list
Some of my brother and sister ex sister inlaws' fights rate right up there with the best of 'em but we did not have the foresight to tape 'em
Hope you enjoy my list and I further hope I jogged some of you old timer's memories.

I didn't know Larry Holmes fought Jose Ribelta was Larry Holmes hurt when he got knocked down ? im assuming you meant knocked down when you said "Gift through the long count".
