CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Quoted as saying it in a recent interview but who would he face?
Froch makes sense and after Carls peformance on ITV this would be a massive domestic matchup and a top fight:cool:
Hope Joe gives the UK public what they want!

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
I've just read this in today's paper.Who will he fight on his last night inside the ring?,"Thats the question we'll all start asking on here now!"Would'nt it be great if Calzaghe and Frotch met half way in weight and give us the fight most of us have been wanting for soo long? For me it would anyhow.I have a feeling he'll end up fighting Hopkins again, there has been talks a few months ago for a rematch and Hopkins is willing to come over to Whales and fight Joe.If it does happen i hope that the Hopkins that comes over is the Hopkins who fought Pavlik last year, then it would be a cracking fight to go and watch Live at the Millenium Stadium!!
Well done to Joe for continuing,,,i knew he would!

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
American TV have no interest in Froch whatsoever going by his dealings with Taylor.
It would be a great fight for Britian. Unfortunately Froch isn't big enough to make it matter anywhere else.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
It would be a great fight for Britain, but the fight wouldn't be close. Calzaghe would dominate Froch more than he dominated Roy Jones Jr. Froch hasn't done enough to deserve a Calzaghe fight and beating Froch doesn't do anything for Calzaghe's legacy.

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Isn't Naz weighing about 180 right now?
;D

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
"DAM YOU KELLY PAVLIK !! :furious: DAM YOU !! :bashtroll4cx4:WE COULD HAVE MADE SO MUCH MONEY AND IF I WOULD HAVE BEATEN YOU. I WOULD HAVE FINALLY GOT THE CREDIT I DESERVE.... BUT YOU MESSED IT UP..... DAM YOU !!" :bawling:
That's what Calzaghe must be thinking. Imagine had Pavlik KO-ED Hopkins in impressive style ? Imagine what kinda super fight that would have been with him and Calzaghe ? But he didn't. So what's Calzaghe left with ? Chad Dawson ? Carl Froch ? A rematch with Hopkins ? Or what the hell, give Pavlik a shot anyway.
I hope it's Dawson or Froch. and u know what ? I think he'll fight on even after his next fight :lolhaha:

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Ive still got a sneaky suspicsion if joe was going to retire he would of already done it and one last swansong in wales may just be on the cards.
The natural opponent would be dawson but whether chads team would be willing to send him over to wales is an entire question in itself.

As much as I like Chad Dawson why should Calzaghe fight him? It's the reverse of Froch: outside of the US, who the hell knows who he is? Dawson is a really dangerous guy Joe would have to take minimum wage to fight. He'd be better off with Froch in Millenium Stadium. I doubt a Dawson match-up would sell out over here.

Joe would have the financial leverage against Froch or Dawson. Is it not a given that Joe would pack the stadium in his last fight in Wales regardless of who is in the other corner? Especially, if the person is a dangerous, competitive boxer? I know Joe is no Hatton in terms of popularity and I don't live in Cardiff. However, consider that HBO just signed Dawson to a contract and aren't interested in Froch. If Calzaghe is interested in getting stateside exposure, Dawson is the way to go.
Froch is the safer fight; of that, there is no doubt.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Dawson isn't even a big draw in the states yet.
His last fight with Tarver couldn't even sell out a 2000 seat arena. Fuck knows why HBO have taken up the rematch. I know they have been criticised for it.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
If Joe has one last fight in Wales he could fight ANYONE and it's gonna sell out in a matter of days, he'll easily pack it out with 70 odd thousand people just to see his last fight.
With that in mind i think he should face Froch, don't know why but for me Dawson is dangerous for Joe!
A Hopkins rematch is obviously gonna make a fortune but does Joe need the cash that badly anymore and what's he got to prove against the cheating Popkins anyway who just looked to get Joe DQ'd late on when his skills were slaughtered by Joe's and he realised he couldn't beat him.
Joe hates Popkins as a person so i doubt if he'll entertain him really;)

whether the fight is held in america, wales or tim-buck-too the general perspective is that it has to be sellable for an american audience, even a PPV one.
Froch for that circumstance is a complete no-go as he finds himself in the exact same position joe did at that stage of his career in that unless he is able to bang opponents out within 5 rounds or brings a wacky personality to the ring until he reaches an "unbeatable" status the likes of HBO/Showtime just arent going to be interested in him.
The only realistic sellable fight for an american audience is Dawson and thats about it.
If calzaghe is to fight again it`ll be against Chad Dawson i promise you that!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
I think it will be Glen Johnson.
He costs peanuts and is willing to travel. He has an American audience. Fought live on ITV and BBC. There's history between them.
That would be a good fight to end on.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Then if he (Calzaghe) is to fight once more the I say he should fight at cruiserweight and take on Thomasz Adamek for the undisputed title in Wales. It might not be huge here in the U.S but as far as legacy goes why not go for another championship in another division that is not far from LightHeavyweight. And I think it could be huge overseas. But if not then the only other options would be Johnson or a rematch with Hopkins.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
I can't see his last fight being a catchweight contest against Froch. If he does fight he'll want US TV money so Hopkins or Johnson.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
How about Tarver? As much of a yawn fest as it would probably be, I think it's still sellable enough for both audiences, British and American. A lot safer than Dawson, more change to be made than with Froch and Showtime or HBO should be interested. Let Tarver flap those big lips and get fish-hooked into a Wales venue.

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Its gonna be an old bum who has seen better days.
Calzaghe fought Peter Manfredo only 4 fights ago..
..anyone thinking it will be Chad or Froch are dreaming.

I heard Mario Veit is the leading candidate.

Truthfully though I can see only Hopkins, Johnson or Dawson as legitimate big fights for Joe, Froch isn't even rated in the top 5 at SMW, so why should a guy who fights at LHW come down. Bums will be on seats regardless of who Joe fights so he should least go out with a bang, Dawson being my favourite.

would love2 see hopkins or dawson but froch would be the biggest money maker even tho i think hes less risk then the other 2. like ya say calzaghes last fight will fill out anywhere vs anyone even c zeneloff . me personally would love 2 see joe vs hopkins 2 or c dawson. dont think it will happen tho. got 2 be froch, the british people would go mad 4 it

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Joe should fight a easy gimme fight but with a British touch. Clinton Woods. :)
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Chad Dawson, just to keep the fight real.
Too many of those other names are just silly.
-
Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Im thinking Dawson himself may be a little over rated, he has beaten some good names, he beat Tarver and Adamek well but Adamek moved up to cruiser and did a whole lot better, could have been the weight?
As for Tarver, hes just a bag of shit really and I can see him doing much better in a rematch.
Then you have Johnson who Clinton Woods beat and I dont think Calzaghe would have had as much trouble with Johnson as Dawson did:confused:
A Calzaghe v Dawson fight could be another Hopkins v Pavlik fight, where the younger fighter is just flumuxed by the style in front of him and cannot get anything off, like Kessler couldnt.
I watched Calzaghe v Kessler on youtube last night and Manny Steward is commentating for HBO, he calls Joe a "fantastic fighting machine" he stands and applauds both boxers and says that Kessler is a very good fighter in his own right and both should be in the top ten fighters in the world, just that Joe is that good.
He also commented on Joes ability to up his pace and change his style, he was gushing about Joe and to hear a highly regarded American trainer say that kind of praise for someone who for a long time got no credit at all was very telling on Joes skill.

Now Joe is where he is, any name is overrated. He's at the level where he is only entitled to fall. Any big win is most likely due to a fault in the opponent.
Not that Im fully sold on that jazz...

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
I think he's hoping Winky beats Williams. My gut feeling is it'll be Winky or Taylor.

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
Here's the issue I have with Froch vs. Joe.
Joes resume will look like Kess, Hopkins, RJJ, Froch... :-\
Why end your career making a "domestic" fight when you've already crossed over and hit the states big.
Why not BCD at Cardiff on HBO. :)

Cuz he'll lose

Re: CALZAGHE wants one last fight at the Millenium stadium!
I wish Joe would retire. 46-0 and millions of pounds should be enough.

This is why I don't think it'll be Froch. There is nothing in this to gain for Joe.Who would care if he beat Froch? It'll be an american. I think Winky is the most likely option.
