Who is the man at 147???
I really don't know now. I thought it might have been Margarito, but now I have to conclude that it is Williams or Cotto, if Williams can make it back to 147. A valid case can also be made for Cotto now that Margarito's honour is in question with regards to wrapping. I think that biggest fight in the division is Cotto Williams at 147, although I would love to see Mosley Berto now as well.
If Margarito is proven to have been using plaster, he should have his license revoked and all fights struck from the records.

Re: Who is the man at 147???
Mosley has shook the division up with that win.
Cotto beat Mosley
Margarito beat Cotto
Mosley beat Margarito
its very intresting where they go from here
Then there is Berto he needs to get one of the big names to see who is the best at 147.

Re: Who is the man at 147???
Sugar Shane Mosley.
How can anyone disagree ???
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
yeah. Sugar is the man at 147 right now. He lost a decision to Cotto that could have gone either way. I personally had Cotto ahead by two rounds, but understand it could have been a draw or even a ud for Mosely. After last night's domination of Margarito, he definitely gets the man status from me.
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
There is no champion. If Shane can win a rematch with Cotto then he'd have a case, but there's also Paul Williams.
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
I hope PW stays where he is or moves up to light heavy or heavy. His azz is way too big for this division.
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
Shane Mosley
No question. He beats Pac, Hatton, Tony and Cotto. Floyd is the fight I wana see. Its been waiting to happen for 10 years
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
It was Mayweather, then Cotto, then Margarito, now it's Shane!
Are they ever going to put up that RING belt for a fight?
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
I don't know i don't think theres any one main man in the division anymore, because they've all mostly tasted defeat. And i believe they could beat eachother on any of there best nights so its hard to tell, but ranking wise at the moment its for certain Shane Mosley.
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
People never learn... Cotto is definitely the best fighter at WW right now until Floyd comes back. He beat Mosley, he beat Quintana, Judah, etc. He would beat Paul Williams. How would Molsey do against PW? I don't think he wins that, or against Berto or against Cotto. He fought great here, but people need to take Mosley's career into perspective, he is a hot and cold fighter, who is really hot against the right opposition, and no so great against others.

Mosley is the man right now, no doubt.
Dan Rafael said before the fight that the Mosley/Margarito match should have been for The Ring belt, and I agree. Mosley should be the champ, with Cotto the #1 contender. I suppose instead they'll keep it vacant with Shane #1 and Cotto #2.
It doesn't make any sense to worry about where Paul Williams ranks until he decides to fight at welter again.

Re: Who is the man at 147???
So who do you guys want to see fight next? Mosley Williams would also be good to see. I was not expecting that result last night at all, but fair play to Mosley. These old timers are messing with our heads recently. First Hopkins destroys the middleweight star Pavlik and now Mosley upsets the WW division turning it on it's head. I now think all of the big fights at 147 are complete
pick 'ems.
One thing I can't believe now is that Mayweather can stay retired. Williams, Cotto and Mosley are all legitimate huge fights. Add to that Hatton and Manny and there are so many potential Mega fights to be made.
Excting times at 147 ;D

Why would he be the ring champ, when the guy right up there with him, beat him? I don't think Mosley as cemented his place atop the division until he beats the guy who beat him.
IMO Floyd should leapfrog both of them when he comes back, he is clearly the best fighter in the division when he comes back which might be against Mosley.

Two reasons:
1. The relative quality of the wins. Mosley lost a very close decision to Cotto; Cotto was brutally knocked out by Margarito, who was then KTFO by Mosley. That makes Mosley's case the most convincing out of the trio.
2. More importantly, the timeline of the wins also matters. Shane beat the man who beat the man; if you're talking about a title lineage it just doesn't matter that Shane previously lost to Cotto. Like Lampley talking about the heavyweights last night, when Frazier beat Ali, Foreman beat Frazier, and Ali beat Foreman; Ali was the champ.
Before the fight Margarito was number 1; he had just beaten the number 2 man (Cotto), and Mosley was number 3. That would seem to fit The Ring's policy for filling a vacant championship.
Maybe they were trying to avoid the appearance of bias because Shane is a GBP fighter? Otherwise I don't understand the decision.

Although I agree with Mosley bein #1 & that it should have been for the Ring belt, the Heavyweight argument doesn't really work because by the time Ali beat Foreman, he had already beaten Frazier in the rematch, thus indisputably making him the Champ. They actually did an article on The Ring online about why they didn't make the Margarito-Mosley fight for their belt, I'll see if I can find it

Re: Who is the man at 147???
#1 147 fighter shane mosely legit champ naw
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
Mosley is the man at 147 today. Maybe Clottey or Cotto in the future, but for now, Shane beat the man who beat the man.
-
Re: Who is the man at 147???
Mosely!!! How is this in question? Cotto lost to Tony, Tony was the man, Shane beat Tony now he's the man. Floyd is out of the picture, f him until he comes out of retirement I don't give a crap about putting him in the picture. Williams is the only other one capable of getting that spot, and he would have to come back down to ww, he just signed a mw fight, so gl with that.

THE MASTER PLASTER The Master Blaster ;) SSM.

Re: Who is the man at 147???
There is no clear cut man at welterweight. Cotto has a legitamate claim and Margarito has too much of a cloud. It is a fact he did get caught cheating the investigation is just formal policy. Even though not much will happen. Its ridiculous and lessen the awful crime he committed. It gives no fear for cheaters. But Paul Williams can not be ruled out like he is being. He has said numerous times that he can still make welter and will do so if he can get a mega fight. The welterweight class is so stacked you can almost throw like five names in a hat and just blind draw who the man is. Mosley, Mayweather(he is only out for lunchbreak), Williams, and Cotto all have a good argument. Maybe Pac and Hatton can be thrown in. Heck, look at how the consolation tournament looks Cintron, Clottey, Collazo, Berto, Judah, etc. I

Re: Who is the man at 147???
For what it's worth, I don't include Williams in the discussion at 147. His last 2 fights have been at 160 and 154, his next fight is at 160, and I don't expect him to ever fight at 147 again, no matter what his handlers say.
Right now Mosley has the right to consider himself the man at 147, although it would help his case to beat Cotto. If Mayweather were to comeback and beat Mosley, then I think he could consider himself the man, since he was the lineal/Ring champ before retiring.

The situation is kind of funny, actually. Mosley's status now comes from beating Margarito; Margarito's status comes from beating Cotto; and Cotto's status came (mainly) from beating Mosley. But Cotto's next best win was Zab Judah, whose defining win was against Corey Spinks, who made his name by beating Ricardo Mayorga, whose built his career by beating Vernon Forrest, whose most impressive win was over, of course, Shane Mosley.
That's quite a long shadow cast by a guy who's only 5'9".

F*** Floyd Mayweather. He is not really a WW anyway. And he would never fight WW that has any chance of KOing him. Can't we just let him be retired and let go of this guy?
If he's done with boxing, then boxing is done with him. I couldn't see what any of his fights in the last 6 years would be worth watching again anyway.
I'm just so sick of seeing people thread-jacking and dropping PBFs name all the time.
Oh ya.. Shane is the man. Cotto's SD victory doesn't hold a candle light to Shane KO of margarito, and likewise. Cotto has a KO from that very man Shane took to school. People need to recognize what a champ does and is supposed to do. Defend his title. Not let the judges decide if he has done barely enough to defend it.

Re: Who is the man at 147???
Mosley, without Question.IMO Mosley beat Cotto in A close fight, and we all seen what happened last night against Margarita,Not to mention Cotto`s next scheduled fight is against A softy,we have to wait and see what Cotto will have left when he fight`s the top of the Div again.
Simply put,....
Margarito was the Man,Shane whooped his ASS Hard, and know Shane is the man.
I`am A big Mayweather fan,But he should not be considered here, until he un-retires and has atleast one fight at Welter, last time I looked,...you cant just retire and still maintain your ranking, same goes for tall Paul,if were talking Welterweight,IMO you need to be actively campaigning there.

He wasn't beaten by Carlos Baldomir he got DQ, but he was way ahead in that fight at the time. And from my memory the DQ was questionable, he got a bad injury to his hand in the Antonio Margarito fight.
Which effected him badly, but Antonio Margarito also wasn't 100 percent himself so that excuse works both ways. The fact is though Joshua Clottey hasn't been beaten without some question marks.
If you really count the Carlos Baldomir loss, when he was comfortably ahead in the fight and was on his way to winning comfortably, until he got DQ with less than 2 rounds left then go ahead and count it. But then that would be the same as claiming Riddick Bowe beat Andrew Golota x2.
The only real legit loss he has is too Antonio Margarito, which also has question marks surrounding it. Because he won the first 4 rounds comfortably until that injury to his hand. Joshua Clottey deserves a shot against one of the top fighters he deserves it
