Four 114+ degree days in a row.. F that!
That's what we Aussies have in store for us this week from Tuesday to Saturday.. The worst part of my house is that my bedroom is pointed towards the sun for 90% of the day and never cools down.. it's literally about 20 degrees hotter than the rest of the house, but it's going to be so freakin hot this week I just can't stand it.!

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
Go nail an old thick blanket on outside your window mate works well you'd be suprized.
;) wet the fukker down just before sleep and open up the window = bushmans cooler.

I've got 2 of those silver things that you put in the car windows so i'm thinking of sticking them up over the windows, although I live in an area where young tackers will come along and steal them if they are outside.. But i'll definitely look at putting something over the windows this week..
They were talking about it on the radio that it'll be our hottest week since 1959 where we had 3 40+ days in a row..
What's the bet that we'll see a bunch of coincidental bush fires start all over the state tomorrow..
I'm guessing it'll be a hard week for you out in it every day.. Buy up a couple of 2 litre bottles of water to take each day

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
We've been locked in the icy grip of a frigid arctic air mass for more then a month...wth temps on average -20 and worse. Gladly switch with you.

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
Been snowing all day here! I wouldnt want to trade weather with Diz though....hot weather sucks!! :-X;D
-
Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
There is a difference between snowing, and temps consistantly heading into the -40 and worse with windchill factor.
I'd switch in a heartbeat.

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
Yeah it was darn hot today... When I got home from and turned the car off and got out, I could hear the radiator boiling like a kettle.. There's been a couple of blackouts on this side of town, so if the air-conditioner goes out, i'm running the bath full of cold water and sleeping in there..
It would have been great in the surf this morning before it gets ridiculously hot....
I was also hearing on the radio that this weather makes domestic violence rise by about 600%, so I'm keeping clear of the missus if she starts up her whinging. I doubt jail cells have air conditioning....
Actually on the other hand, they probably do. Probably better ones than my house.... hmmmm :headscratch:
and all I have to say for VD's message of empathy is that the flames of hell are probably a lot hotter than the Aussie Summer... Maybe you should fly down here and start getting used to it...
:LOLATYOU: in advance..

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
The heat warped the train tracks in Adelaide today and a heap of people who use the trains to commute got trapped in the city!
Sooooo glad I'm in an airconditioned building most of the time and not commuting a long way to work!
Having said that i did forget how hot it is and tried to go for a run this morning - was dehydrated within 20 mins of easy jogging and had to find a tap at 6:30 am! Ridiculous!

Yea I was thinking this after making my post. The extremes are so severe..I suspect is it easy to see the others and think it may in some way be better in our current state of discomfort. We'd likely change our minds quickly once in it...
Train tracks warping is messed up.
The fact you guys can go outside and find some water and enjoy it I think trumps your situation as being more enjoyable. Here when it starts to hit -30 and worse, being outside for anything more then 5-10 mins you are risking frostbite, and by that, I mean severe frostbite and losing ears, noses, fingers etc. I currently have a winter tan. I seriously have a tan, from my outer layer of facial skin being frostburnt from exposer to the air.
It's only -20 right now...so am considering going for a run outside. Something I haven't been able to do in weeks.

As is usual here in Torquay I have barely noticed the weather at all. I think we have the ideal weather in that regard.

You don't notice the weather cuz you don't go out.

And your complaining ? jesus christ when its summer over here. We don't even get that plus we don't even get much sun, i wish i would have that now to get a nice tan and ETC.
Instead of grey skies/rain its depressing as hell, damn some people just don't know how good they've got it. You should switch places with me and still see if you complain about your weather then.

This goes both ways though man, Where I live it's very similar to where he lives weatherwise. It gets hotter and hotter and there is no escape, it makes you tired and aggrevated and all that sun, guess what, it burns you. I like where I live, but there are times where it's just draining. The metro area I live in has the highest recorded temperate in the US (for a major city) at 122 degrees f (50 degrees c). With the UV index being what it is and the temperature being what it is, it takes about 5 minutes to get a nice deep sunburn.
Here are the AVERAGE highs for July where I live

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
Since this heat wave started 18 people have died in Adelaide alone!
Yes eighteen!
Sorry but we're not talking any ordinary heat here especially for those with less than perfect heath already and airconditioners which break down or people in places where they have power blackouts!
Adelaide is not really that big and this is a first world country with hospitals and abulances etc etc.
This heat is not bad just because it's hot but because there is no let up even at night and it's so prolongued.

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!
Sounds pretty serious Sharla.
I have no idea the totals here. I just know people are dying. As I wrote earlier in another thread, my friends uncle froze to death trying to get home 3 blocks from the bar. They found him face down one block into the trip...on the court house front yard frozen stiff. Killface made a thread sorta about the cold (the homeless too) titled "Hey, Nice Shoes". I think a lot of the deaths here are often people having heart attacks cleaning snow, or car accidents and that sort of thing. I know my dad says if he goes...it'll be the snow cleaning the gets him. I just assumed he was guilting me into doing it until I started reading up on it and then saw him huffing and puffing. So it basically worked and I now do it.
Hopefully it breaks for you guys soon. I think we might be through the worst of it for now. The frigid cold anyway.

Re: Five 104 degree days in a row.. F that!

Havent heard if you have any fires yet?

I agree its fucking freezing here in Liverpool right now, pissing down with rain as well. Winter mights are just depressing IMO. I would LOVE to be in a hot place right now. UK weather is shit...just another depressing thing about this country

Yeah there are some places which i dno't really understand being inhabited by humans unless they are migrating people only there in favourable seasons and places that cold go into that category for me. Did people ever live there in winter as hunter gatherers tribal type people?
I think only small fires at the moment but i really pitty the fireys! A bush fire in the weather would be evil to fight and i don't know how the fireys cope with the heat at all!
They take the weather temps in the shade so while i think around 47 o C has been the top here in Adelaide any thermometers on buildings etc will often read higher than that!:-\
