honestly didnt know he was fighting! yeah it must be a tune up. wasnt that long since his last one was it?
According to boxrec which isn't always reliable he's fighting some guy with a 1-7 record.
Marco Antonio Barrera
boxrec is talking out of its ass as usual. this Nolasco isnt 1-7.He is 17-4. He went the distance with Luevano so he is durable.
Barrera boxed in China, Tonight he fights in Mexico. In March he fights in England and in April he fights in America. He is putting every other boxer to shame with how busy he is.
Oh my bad. I still say Boxrec is ghey though ;D
Ill get this on a torrent 2mora but i wont be able to watch it live. ill be watching gsp outpoint BJ Penn instead
Barrera won by 3rd round DQ after a headbutt opened a huge gash over Barrera 's left eye. He was originally supposed to face John Nolasco, but he didn't show up for the weigh-in. Some are reporting that the cut could place Barrera vs. Khan in jeopardy.
That is a tough break. I hope that the cut can be healed in time and it doesn't affect Barrera's training camp or if they have to, push the match-up back a little. Just a bad break for a fight which made no difference whatsoever for Barrera.
Barrera wins, suffers cut!
Solis TKOs Meza-Clay in eliminator
By Lee Bates
Ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera (65-6, 43 KOs) won by third round disqualification over emergency replacement Freudis Rojas (1-8-1) on Saturday night at the Auditorio Telmex de la UG in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Rojas was DQ’d for a headbutt which left Barrera with a bad gash over his left eye. The cut could jeopardize Barrera’s scheduled March 14 clash against Amir Khan in Manchester, England. Barrera was originally slated to face John Nolasco on Saturday night, but Nolasco didn’t show up at the weigh-in, so Marco Antonio was pressed into facing Rojas, whom he knew absolutely nothing about.

In the co-feature, featherweight Jorge Solis (37-1-2, 27 KOs) scored a fifth round stoppage of Monty Meza Clay (28-2, 19 KOs) in an IBF eliminator.

Had a feeling something like this would happen do you think Frank paid the original guy not to fight haha
Its the only thing that could have gone wrong and it did !
Wow, youd think Rojas won the fight by his reaction. I dont think hell be televised again anytime soon. I doubt mar. 14 will happen now.
You could almost hear his frustration when he clapped his gloves.
"Fuck!! There goes that easy payday!!"
Why did Barrera win? Should have been a no contest.
I dont know the exact protocal in a last minute situation, and this might be easier said than done but it should have been scratched altogether.Barrera tells them, forget it.
He has absolutely ZERO to gain going through against a 1-8 (??) unknown and everything to loss...and he did.Holding up an obligation to local promotion is nice but at this point in his career,he needs to think about himself and immediate future.....looking for one last hurrah.
Surely he faced very little 'boxing' risk from this guy but if he was last minute with a record like that, his sloppy skills and lack of technique ? had to be much more of a threat,if that makes sence?? Watched it just now....that looked intentional as hell.

Barrera looks a tad slower and his power didnt really bother his opponent who has been stopped before.
It also looked like to me he didnt' do a particularly good job of closing the distance.. the other guy ran alot and barrera pretty much let him side step him and back off again when he did close the distance... this is exactly how Khan fights, only he throws a lighting fast 4-5 punch combination then backs off before people can fight back.. and rinse and repeats.
Although I have to say Barrera looked a lot sharper than I expected him to be.. I'm looking forward to this fight alot. But I'm sticking to my original prediction, Khan by UD.
It was a blatant headbutt so Rojas was disqualified

joey uk - Khan does run like Rojas you are right but this guy was in survival mode from the opening seconds. Khan can do the same but he wont win any rounds. If he wants to win he has to fight. You also have to remember Barrera only has to hit as hard as Limond and Gomez and Khan is on the deck. Plus who has Khan ever faced who has Barreras speed.
That was accidental headbutt.
MAB and his steel plate in his head should retire.....He was a great fighter!
Yeah - I want him to bash Khan as well....
ok. I can't view the youtube fight so I can't comment on how he is looking (and I've been watching for a long time so I figure I could tell how much slippage there is) I can't comment on whether I think he looked slow, was taking a look at his opponent, going through the motions. He's been in ugly fights before that have gone the distance but again I'm unable to view youtube.
I figure the fight went ahead because a. he was contracted to fight and b. he wanted to get some rounds under his belt.
If the Khan fight is in danger because of the cut it should be postponed and not some last minute nobody put in his place. The fight imo has been sold on the name of Barrera and not Khan vs Tom' Mato-Can
I dont think Marco could have stopped this guy. This tomato can was too elusive, too defensive for his own good(career), and did not seem to be in danger of getting KOed with one single punch. I thought this nobody would have survived till the final bell.
If this fight have gone the distance, imagine the negative repercussions it will bring.... I will leave it at that.
There's talks in the paper that the Khan vs Barrera fight could be called off due to the sliced eye Marco recieved in his previous bout:-\.Im very surprised to see him fighting soo early before the fight with Khan in March:-\,,,,,"Why"is the question??Barrera looked very average but im sure he was just treating the fight as a warm up fight. There's one last big fight in the dog yet.I cant understand why he fought that fight though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barrera looked fine to me. The other guy had no intention of fighting and Barrera was winning the rounds handily. Glorified sparring really.
yvonne - the 31st of Jan fight was already scheduled.
I've heard lots of versions of the fight. :D e.g the headbutt was the only thing he landed;D
No laughing matter if I'm outta pocket £300:mad:
Warren you listening? Postpone the fight 2-4 weeks. We want what we paid for Mr.Barrera vs Mr.Khan not some scrub.
From Warren - "I am an optimist, not a pessimist. I want the show to go on, although I know there are people out there who want it off."
Who wants it off? :-\
15,000 tickets already sold.
Khan?;D
Grr. If in doubt then postpone not fill the bill with crap. Barrera had to pull out against Morales because of a broken rib and the fight was re-scheduled. I made a trip across the pond for nothing. They didn't just put on a show for the sake of it.
I'd have been more pissed they had filled the bill leaving me to wonder if I could afford another ticket. That would have been a financial kick in the teeth.
I've have been even more pissed if Barrera had fought injured and ill prepared before the fight (if we learnt about things after the fact that's another story).
With 15,000 already sold I expect they'll say the fight is going ahead as planned.. only for Barrera to be subbed at the last minute for another great Mexican... Manuel Medina
Don't joke.
I'm wearing some steel heeled stilettoes and killing someone.
;D
I told ya they shouldn't have gone through with this joke fight (that's the cab driver that nutted Barrera not Khan)
It was the only thing that could go wrong. And it did:(
You didnt miss much. Barrera treated it like a sparring session. Went through the motion s much like he did in China. He wasnt trying his hardest but who does in warm ups? Hopkins looked poor in his fight b4 Oscar . He knew a payday was coming and just let his skills do the talking . Same thing here with Barrera
Im abit concerned that if this cut keeps him out of sparring then his timing may be off on fight night . Having said that last time he turned up undeprepared was November 2003 and I dont think he will make teh same mistake.
Marco has played his part as the boxer in fights with Pedan and Juarez but in this fight he will be the guy chasing and Khan will be running. Hope he doesnt enter the ring with scar tissue. The cut was between the eyes above the nose not above 1 eye so it shouldnt be that bad
