Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
He's got a one off special on tonight about how the truth's of Darwin have finally been proven beyond doubt apparently. Will watch with interest.
There seems to be a concerted effort at the moment to generate a groundswell of publicity for athiestic humanism, we had Dawkins 'The God Delusion' last year, the buses advertsing the fact there's no God all around the UK and now Attenborough is going to reassure us all that there's no doubt in the minds of science any more.
Should be an interesting watch, it's a shame they will never broadcast any counter side so all we get is 'religious' indoctrination from the humanists intent of making their religion the number one but it's been the same throughout human history I guess, the people being told what to think and believe.
Will watch with interest........

Wow, finally proof. Let me guess they found a bone somewhere and they made an artists rendering of what they think it looked like and it's all the transitional species?!?
It's funny what people will require for proof of God, but will accept any imaginative official sounding story as proof there isn't one.;)

Exactly, if someone says the Bible is true people dismiss and say 'show me the evidence' if someone says evolution is true then that statement itself is accepted as being the evidence.
I'm fairly certain this documentaries 'proof's' of evolution will consist of telling us its now proven.

All Science has ever been able to do is tell us how, never why.

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
I think the English have gone nuts with the PC "there is no God" bs because they don't want a religious war in their own country.
Also how fucking stupid is this guy??? Even if you do prove evolution beyond a reasonable doubt you have not proven that there is no God. There COULD be evolution AND God, I mean it's not like light and dark or hot and cold it's not like you can have one but not both of them.....what is wrong with England taxes on TV's and everyone saying there is no God you guys are going to hell in a handbasket whether you believe in such a place or not

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
Lyle I think you are getting a few things mixed together here.
An athiest organisation being aloud to put adverts on buses because we have something called freedom of speech (sure it's on your bill of rights?)
a program on the T.V. about evolution
our overly P.C. local councils who try to tone down religous themes in public events because our country is incredibly diverse and they are overly scared of offending somebody
None of these show or add up to everbody saying there is no god' or 'The English being scared of a civil religous war'.
I'm sat right now with the T.V. on in the background... a program called songs of praise is on... it's basically a church service on BBC1.
You often try to talk about England with Authority and you are usually wrong Lyle, I can see where you're shooting from but your facts have obviously been twisted in their journey over the atlantic you're making pretty massive statements there with out actually having been in the country to see what's actually going on.

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
Though you have basically echoed what I've said. Evolution could be how... but god is why.

Adam, I am not speaking from a position of authority...I am merely trying to make sense of this all

Attenborough is just presenting the program, the evidence was found in the Artic. I am a Humanist thats my believe, someone with Faith I havent a problem with, its there point of view. I love an open mind.

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
people saying there is no God is nothing more than God allowing Satan to work in a fallen world.
The very scientists who speak of the laws of science seem to ignore the fact that it's these very laws that lend support of His existence.

....I think Mike Huckabee gave a good rational explination about evolution and religion.
And honestly I don't like anyone pushing their views on me....atheists are just as annoying as those God damned Jehovah's Witnesses that come to my door trying to tell me how great life could be if I only didn't celebrate anything and became crazy as hell....sorry people life is too short not to try and celebrate everything God put here.
I like the teachings of Joseph Campbell to be totally honest, I think he is the point where atheists and believers in God can agree

If we accept the Bible, if there is no God then there is no Devil. I accept the concept of the Ten Commandments for its worth in Good practice and do my best to live by them. Ive had a wonderfull Life, I dont believe theres one hereafter, only through my Genes and the memorys I will leave when Im gone.

Yeah but the difference is that the humanists are allowed to present their religion as truth and factual when in fact there is nothing factual about evolution. It is as much a faith belief system as belief in intelligent design. That's what annoys me.

Just stick to the tons of programs in TV land which are concentrated on people rattling on about the bible/koran/torah/ancient astronauts - that present their beliefs as truth and factual too ;)

And also I don't think they try to present their beliefs as fact so much as they try to teach lessons from sacred books....books which are sacred for a reason. They contain lessons which can make us better people but what hurts religions are when people teach the wrong lessons frokm these books

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
Through history, as natural selection played its part in the development of modern man, many of the useful functions and parts of the human body become unnecessary. What is most fascinating is that many of these parts of the body still remain in some form so we can see the progress of evolution. This list covers the ten most significant evolutionary changes that have taken place - leaving signs behind them.
10 Goose Bumps
Cutis Anserina
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...nsehaut-tm.jpg
Humans get goose bumps when they are cold, frightened, angry, or in awe. Many other creatures get goose bumps for the same reason, for example this is why a cat or dog’s hair stands on end and the cause behind a porcupine’s quills raising. In cold situations, the rising hair traps air between the hairs and skin, creating insulation and warmth. In response to fear, goose bumps make an animal appear larger - hopefully scaring away the enemy. Humans no longer benefit from goose bumps and they are simply left over from our past when we were not clothed and needed to scare our own natural enemies. Natural selection removed the thick hair but left behind the mechanism for controlling it.
9 Jacobson’s Organ
Vomeronasal organ
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo.../gray51-tm.jpg
Jacobson’s organ is a fascinating part of animal anatomy and it tells us a lot about our own sexual history. The organ is in the nose and it is a special “smell” organ which detects pheromones (the chemical that triggers sexual desire, alarm, or information about food trails). It is this organ that allows some animals to track others for sex and to know of potential dangers. Humans are born with the Jacobson’s organ, but in early development its abilities dwindle to a point that it is useless. Once upon a time, humans would have used this organ to locate mates when communication was not possible. Single’s evenings, chat rooms, and bars have now taken its place in the process of human mate-seeking.
8 Junk DNA
L-gulonolactone oxidase
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...72-fig3-tm.jpg
While many of the hangovers from our “devolved” past are visible or physical, this is not true for all. Humans have structures in their genetic make-up that were once used to produces enzymes to process vitamin C (it is called L-gulonolactone oxidase). Most other animals have this functioning DNA but at some point in our history, a mutation disbled the gene - whilst leaving behind its remnants as junk DNA. This particular junk DNA indicates a common ancestry with other species on earth, so it is particularly interesting.
7 Extra Ear Muscles
Auriculares muscles
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...gray906-tm.jpg
Also known as the extrinsic ear muscles, the auriculares muscles are used by animals to swivel and manipulate their ears (independently of their head) in order to focus their hearing on particular sounds. Humans still have the muscles that we would once have used for the very same reason - but our muscles are now so feeble that all they can do is give our ears a little wiggle. The use of these muscles in cats is very visible (as they can nearly turn their ears completely backwards) - particularly when they are stalking a bird and need to make the smallest movements possible so as to not frighten its future meal.
6 Plantaris Muscle
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...ray1242-tm.jpg
The plantaris muscle is used by animals in gripping and manipulating objects with their feet - something you see with apes who seem to be able to use their feet as well as their hands. Humans have this muscle as well, but it is now so underdeveloped that it is often taken out by doctors when they need tissue for reconstruction in other parts of the body. The muscle is so unimportant to the human body that 9% of humans are now born without it.
Just paying the bills…
5 Wisdom Teeth
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...h-01-en-tm.jpg
Early humans ate a lot of plants - and they needed to eat them quickly enough that they could eat a sufficient amount in one day to get all of the nutrients they needed. For this reason, we had an extra set of molars to make the larger mouth more productive. This was particularly essential as the body lacked the ability to sufficiently digest cellulose. As evolution made its selections, our diets changed, our jaws grew appropriately smaller, and our third molars became unnecessary. Some human populations have now all but completely stopped growing wisdom teeth, while others have almost 100% likelihood of developing them.
4 Third Eyelid
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...ray1205-tm.jpg
If you watch a cat blink, you will see a white membrane cross its eye - that is called its third eyelid. It is quite a rare thing in mammals, but common in birds, reptiles, and fish. Humans have a remnant (but non-working) third eyelid (you can see it in the picture above). It has become quite small in humans, but some populations have more visible portions than others. There is only one known species of primate that still has a functioning third eyelid, and that is the Calabar angwantibo (closely related to lorises) which lives in West Africa.
3 Darwin’s Point
plica semilunaris
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...ubercle-tm.jpg
Darwin’s point is found in the majority of mammals, and humans are no exception. It is most likely used to help focus sounds in animals, but it no longer has a function in humans. Only 10.4% of the human population still has this visible left-over mark of our past, but it is possible that a much larger number of people carry the gene that produces it as it does not always cause the ear tubercle to appear. The point (shown in the picture above) is a small thick nodule at the junction of the upper and middle sections of the ear.
2 Coccyx
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo.../sacrum-tm.jpg
The coccyx is the remnant of what was once a human tail. Over time we lost the need for a tail (as tree swinging was replaced by hanging out at the local water hole grunting neanderthal gossip), but we did not lose the need for the coccyx: it now functions as a support structure for various muscles and a support for a person when he sits down and leans back. The coccyx also supports the position of the anus.
1 Appendix
http://listverse.com/wp-content/uplo...gray536-tm.jpg
The appendix has no known use in modern humans and is often removed when it becomes infected. While its original use is still speculated on, most scientists agree with Darwin’s suggestion that it once helped to process the cellulose found in the leaf-rich diet that we once had. Over the course of evolution, as our diet has changed, the appendix became less useful. What is particularly interesting is that many evolutionary theorists believe that natural selection (while removing all of the abilities of the appendix) selects larger appendices because they are less likely to become inflamed and diseased. So unlike the little toe, which may eventually vanish and is equally useless, the appendix is likely to stay with us for a long time - just hanging around doing nothing.

This kind of 'evidence' when presented really annoys me. It's basically no stronger an argument than a creationist highlighting the complexity of an eyeball and all its component parts and saying it must have had a designer. Apparently that is to be rejected as mere conjecture and wishful thinking but evolutionists are allowed to look at parts of the human body in the same way and see in an appendix for example a vestigial organ that is evidence of our monkey days.
If creationists arn't allowed to use the idea of irreducibale complexity as evidence for a designer then how is it logically consistent for an evolutionist to use their own interperetations of what's vestigial or not as evidence for evolution.

Apples and oranges. An eye is something we can show evolving in various species today. We can clearly see how it evolved. The structures that are the remains of our tails are present in tailed animals and primates like monkeys (which we share 97+% of our DNA with) but they still have a tail attached. Why would a creator bother giving us a coxxyx if he wasn't going to give us a tail?

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
Attenborough was interviewed today and I think the purpose of the documentary was revealed. Creationism is on the rise in America and has been for many years now, and is seemingly growing over here.
It's a propoganda piece in reality, a nice opportunity to present for humanists to present their evolution as fact under the guise of science.
BBC NEWS | Science & Environment | Attenborough on Darwin and creationism

Re: Attenborough seeks to prove evolution
I'd say intelligent design is on the rise. I'm not so sure about "traditional" creationism.

The bible is now a bit of a mess, cause it no longer mentions reincarnation or ascension; as if you got only one quick go at getting it right .Otherwise the God of LOVe will burn your ass. ;Dsee the contradiction, dont judge, only love etc etc.
It also has had the ancient scriptures withheld that state that you are in a spiritual evolutionary state and that your ascension is up to you.
Pricks (main church) changed it around so that you got to give your chance up to him, (Christ) through them $ and they get to say if you go on or not. Bulsh!t  we are not all going down, they are all staying down for holding others back like sheep throughout the ages.
Science can fight religion and visa versa,Good thing they do, they are both looking out of opposite eyes if they didnt have each other to pick on who knows history could repeat and the Churches would be out judging others and condemming us to death again.
Spirit,mind,body. 1, 2 ,3. Thats the order.
Science and 98% of religions are stuck in the last two and dont live or act out of the first; Where as the first should come first, so that the mind and body serve the Greater spirit.
The reverse has occured so its anti life force;Anti Christ ,their light bodies dont spin at the correct rate and shrink, some stop, some can actually start to spin in reverse to what they should (dark energy), keeps them completly insane and beliving only in their own and others minds. Ego mind then wins ,spirit (feelings) die off, real love and compassion find it harder to grow in that ground. Thats the reaping and sowing the ancients talk about.

Funny you should say that ,thats exactly what annoys others about the good book and people taking everything in it for gospel, instead of seeing that heaven is here right in front of you.
If you belive that scripture from the bible; then logically the answers obviously are right here under our noses too.
At least scientists are the ones searching, not just accepting the rest of the stuff written down in it to the detriment of the thread of truth that can also be found within these ancient texts.
