Cosign, but it will still be an interesting and entertaining fight while it lasts.
I will take vic in 6

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
This fight would have been so much better a few years ago when they were both at the top of the Flyweight division... but better late than never I guess!
Should still be a very entertaining fight but I feel that Darchinyan has made improvements since his lost to Donaire & is a much better fighter now with a great little jab, awesome body work, excellent counter punching & still carries that crushing power.
Whereas I feel Arce has slipped, although he'll be the youger man in the ring he hasn't really improved at all, his struggles with Rojas, the Thai Lookmahanak & then Concepcion make me think he won't be that competitive with Darchinyan.
I feel Darchinyan is gonna be catching Arce all night with hooks & busting up Arces body before finishing things off!

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Arce. Darchinyan style is made for Arce. Arce by mid round stoppage
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Vic in Round 5, like others have said Arce takes too many punches, & I think that he will catch one too many flush & it will be over. I'll be backin Arce though

You gotta be kidding me VD? Arce ain't been the same for years!!! If Tomas Rojas can own him for 5 rounds then I dread to think what Darchinyan will do to him!

Rojas and Darchinyan fight nothing a like. Rojas style is what gave Arce problems. He was never hurt in that fight. And while I agree Arce is not the fighter he once was his body attack seems to have gotten better. Arce has been ending or turning around most of his fights with body work. Darchinyan and his elbows in the air style make his ribs a bulls eye. Arce will take advantage.

Arce won't have a chance against Darchinyans counter punching, but Darchinyan also goes to the body well!!! Arce's liver is gonna be raw!!!

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Gotta jump in on the pack here Darchinyan mid-round stoppage
two reasons
1. years
2. wars
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Don't blink !
I have been a harsh critic of Vic for years but he has changed since the Donaire defeat, gone is the crab like stance and awkward delivery of punches.
His wins over both Kirolov and Mijares were very impressive.
He can wack and is without doubt the hardest hitter Arce has ever faced.
I think Arce is made for Vic, he will walk up to him and stand right in front of him and then wammo he will get hit and we all know Arce gets hit easily.
For Arce to win he has to get in early and assert himself with some solid shots and force Vic into a rethink on game plan, but in his last two fights with Kirolov and Mijares Vic just bullied them. Vic is still not pretty to watch but he is effective and this will be a great fight while it lasts and i think it won't last long! Vic KO 5

Darchinyan has never faced a fighter as big and as strong as Arce. His biggest wins are all against fighters who can't punch. That's not a coincidence. It's by choice. Darchinyan chin is weak. There taking the Arce fight now cuz they think Arce is done. While Arce is not the same fighter he once was he still beats Vic. Donaire stopped him with one punch. And he's a modest hitter. Z Gorres is an even weaker than hitter than Donaire. And he dropped and hurt Darchinyan. What you think is going to happen when Arce lands flush? And he will land.

I hope you're right VD, but I think the wars will catch up with Arce in this one. Remember after the Rojas fight he said he didn't want to fight southpaws anymore. They don't come much more awkward than Vic. I can't see Jorge pulling this out, but for his pride, and just to shut Vic up, I hope he does.
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Man I thought you knew a thing or two about the game VD but I guess like your pick on Arce I was way off!!!
Arce started at 105 the size difference ain't sh*t!
Like Bzkfn said Arce didn't want no southpaws & look how he's looked against them!!!
Wins over a shot Alvarez & Makepula don't prepare you for Darchinyan!
Did you see what Mijares done to Arce's face? He didn't even touch Vic!
I've already got the headlines for Sundays paper & the news is all bad for Arce!

The southpaws Arce has fought, fight nothing like Darchinyan. There movers. Darchinyan ain't no mover. Darchinyan has always gone into a fight knowing he's the stronger fighter. That's not the case this time. Arce unlike other Darchinyan opponents can punch. Arce also has the bigger heart. He's been hurt and has come back to win a fight. Darchinyan has never shown he can come back from adversity. Arce is the wrong fighter to try for the first fight.
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
This will be the first time I've seen both fighters properly. But from what bits I have seen I think I would have to go for Darchinyan KO.
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
chows arce
he throws short accurate punches which vic wont see coming
arce tko 8 cant wait to see the fight
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
If Arce lands that left to the liver (Vic's awkward southpaw stance is made for it) at will, he should wear down Darchinyan quick and stop him. But if he doesn't... his face is gonna get busted up by the Armenian and he's gonna get KTFO.
One thing is for sure..this fight is gonna be a bloodbath. :lickish:

Vic knocked out Mijares who had dominated Arce and Mijares was a southpaw...
This fight has bloodbath all over it.

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
this is gonna sound terrible but flyweight is just too low of a division for me to really give it any real credibility.
the guys fighting down there are more unique for their small stature and its quite feasible as the worlds population gets taller all the time the flyweight division could be entirely scrapped 10-15 years from now and just segregated into regional titles
In the UK the flyweight belt got decided last weekend between 2 guys both of which have had no more than 2-3 fights and it was the 1st flyweight title contest here in 3 years because nobody is that small anymore.
Cant honestly tell me the guy that is currently holding that belt deserves to call himself a british champion???

Rubbish. First, Vic and Arce are 5'6. Many men are 5'6. The average height in many countries is within two inches of 5'6. Moreover, although the physical stature of the boxers may be short, the courage, desire, and atheltic ability are just as big in shorter fighters. The elements in boxing that attract fans to the sport - courage, ability, athleticism etc. - are present in any weight class.

I'd rather watch 2 fit, determined skilled flyweights than the usual fat slob heavyweights any day of the week.

Honestly dude, yeah he does. Edwards has had plenty more than 2 or 3 fights, and is a much better fighter than his record suggests. Bloy was a poor choice as an opponent I agree, but Edwards absolutely deserves to be called British & Commonwealth champion. Honestly, Super-Flyweight was hands down the best division last year with champions actually willing to fight each other and remembering that competative sport is supposed to be about finding out who is the top dog. This fight has the potential to be a FOTY candidate. How can you not care about that?

Didn't the Pacman start as a Flyweight? The smaller guys are the best, from Flyweight up to Featherweight you will see some of the greatest fights of all time.

jimmy wilde. best fighter ever from the other side of the atlantic?

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
As ive said guys im quite sure you`ll find plenty of great south american and asian 112pounders but your not likely to find many stateside or in europe because we just dont make guys that small anymore.
Im not knocking the talents of these 2 guys and im quite sure its gonna be a great fight. But when a division becomes so segmented as this you have to question whether its strength in depth and ability to last the course of time!

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
Arces career has begun to wind down, the guys been fighting since '96 he was 16 when he started fighting.
One of the most active fighters of the past years fighting up to 3 times a year.
It's become clear that Arces boxing skills are more evident his defense is all gone. Takes too many shots and has been in sooo many blood baths and wars that's it's all about time now before he's TKO'd.
Well the time has come and it sucks cause it's gonna come in the hands of someone whom I think Arce would have TKO'd if this fight would have happened a few years back when it was originally intended for it to happen.
Arce struggled with "El Torito" Concepcion and Concepcion was on the verge of stopping Arce. Would Concepcion been a power puncher he would have stopped him but Arce fought on.
I think Vic will TKO Arce around the midway point of the fight.
The only way I can see Arce wining is if he fights smart and times Vic but Vic seems to be getting better and better as his career proceeds.
I was hoping to attend this fight but it doesn't look like I will. :(

This is what we want in the division. It's a really hard division for the fighters themselves but nevertheless it should be a good fight with plenty of trading punches.I understand there only a few boxers at that weight in the uk but we need more fights boardcasted in the division so that it helps put a shining light on the division. It'll do no harm in supporting fighters like these!!!;)

That fight means absolutely nothing in relation to this fight. Completely different styles. Vic has good power and he's improved his skills, but Arce hits harder than Nonito and Vic still leaves himself open enough for Arce to be able to land. Arce also takes a punch pretty well.
Vic is riding high of his excellent performance against Mijares. I'm not taking anything away from him, but personally I think Mijares was a bit weight drained in that fight. He looked like crap before the weigh-in and he's now moving up to 118. Vic did not face the same version of Mijares.
This is going to be a lot like Mosley/Margo. Everybody was high Margo because of the Cotto win and they didn't give Shane a chance because all the could think about is Margo beating Cotto and Cotto beating Mosley. How did that one work out. It doesn't help that Vic is so completely arrogant that thinks he only lost to Nonito because of a lucky punch.
Arce will catch him eventually, and Vic will go to sleep. Then I will laugh.

The old weight drained excuse? Mijares looked perfectly fine til Vic caught him then he looked 'weight drained'?
I guess Vic was weight drained when Nonito KO'd him cos he went straight up???

Nah, it's more that Darchinyan's chin ain't really that good
-
Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
At 10:00 on Showtime tonight they are replaying Vic smootching the canvas vs.Donaire :fight:.My first instinct thinking on this one for a while is to call it a Vic KO,all B.S aside....the man kicked the shite out of Mijares in impressive fashion.Of course,Mijares Imo fought a dumb, dumb fight. It was obvious that his game was to keep Vic turning, tripping over his own feet, box and move in combination aware of Vics awkward inevitable bombs.Instead,he stood there, had some moments but walked to Vic with that goofy smirk on his face.Dude was torched.
I do think Arce could land often and is deeply, deeply seasoned. Will not be phased by Vic,his enormous ego and love of self but years are evident on Arce.At the end of the day...I just think Vic is too strong and on a rebound,I think he'll be more active than usual and Arce will be forced to stand still after a while...finding an inviting target but leaving himself there as well for big awkward shots that will only accumlilate. If Im wrong,I'll be dancing on the roof ;D.Vic has some big power & talent but DAMN the dude is a giant prick!

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
When is Darchinyan gonna get some respect?
When he destroyed Kirilov I read that it was not the old Kirilov he fought...
Now Mijares was weight drained? Give me a break!
Sure Darchinyan go knocked out by Donaire but imo he is one of those fighters where a loss his improved him as a fighter. Mijares couldn't do anything because Darchinyan didn't let him! From the 1st round. I don't know if anyone else agrees but Vic reminded me of Johnny Tapia the way he was counter punching in that fight!
I actually fear for Arce's safety in this fight! Thats how one sided I think its gonna be!!!

I wont disagree with that. He got beat plaiin and simple.
If i was the usual fanboy on here i'd say he got KO'd cos he was weakened due to weight issues.....

Look at all of Darchinyan's big wins. All against fighters who can't punch. You think that's a coincidence? Nope. They know his chin is weak. There taking the Arce fight now, cuz they think Arce is that far gone. Bad mistake

Re: Vic v. Arce - Your Pick, and Why?
I think people are making picks on this fight based off each fighters performances against Mijares. Gotta remember styles make fights. Arce isn't going anywhere, I think whoever is going backwards in this fight will be the loser.

Sure Darchinyan go knocked out by Donaire but imo he is one of those fighters where a loss his improved him as a fighter. Mijares couldn't do anything because Darchinyan didn't let him! You are right that the Donaire fight improved Vic. He went back to school and learned a few things. Had that version of Vic fought Arce from that time, Vic might have been sent to early retirement.
I'll give Vic his credit for improvement, and it will have this from being a one-sided beatdown for Arce. It should be a competitive fight, but like No Contest said, whoever goes backward loses. We'll know pretty soon what the end result will be. If Darchinyan starts to move backwards and try to play slick counterpunch (because he's an arrogant bastard and thinks he can), he's getting KTFO.
