forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
Ruslan Chagaev 1year after his win over matt skelton finally makes his return to the ring fighting a guy called carl davis drummond.
Why this guy constantly gets overlooked when discussing the future of the division is beyond me as unlike most of his predecessors has backed up his talent in the past.
Showed against valuev he isnt afraid to get his hands dirty and barring anymore injuries should be able to get himself right back into the mix and hopefully that eventual rematch with valuev that`ll see him rightfully reclaim a world title

Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
He's had an achillies tear, we will see how much that effects him. Thats a big time injury.
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
Chagaev gets overlooked because he's in the WBA trash heap and hasn't made any effort to get out of the junior circuit....wake me when he fights somebody worth a damn. Believe me I appreciate him beating Valuev but I just don't think he's all that great

I agree. Chagaev has been an absolute pussy since winning the wba super regular title. First he backed out of a unification bout with Sultan Ibragamov. Then he stalled unification fights for over a year until he was injured.
He will never fight a dangerous fighter because, deep down inside, he knows he is mediocre.
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
He is a blue collar fighter, seems to have a decent chin, and decent punch output, but he doesn't have great power or speed or anything else....he couldn't KO John Ruiz or Nicolay Valuev.....what does that tell you???
And the best fighters he has fought other than those two guys are Matt Skelton and Vladimir Virchis.....dude, seriously those are the only guys in the division you can dig up to fight you?!?!?!
Chagaev like the rest of the WBA Superfriends, hasn't fought a legit power puncher yet. I would like to see the divisions younger talent go after the WBA belt and THEN go after Wlad or Vitali.....they gain experience and earn a title then get a shot at the TRUE title holders of the division....Haye, Arreola, Dimitrenko, Sam Peter, etc etc etc....they should go after those assholes in the junior circuit, I'd bet on them if they did!
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
He is just another mediocre heavyweight who does just enough to win but not enough to set himself apart from the other lackluster heavyweights.
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
I like Chagaev, but he has been pulling out of a lot of fights due to injuries and such, he was suppose to fight Valuev again, had his achilles problem, then they rescheduled then he had a chest cold or something and dropped out of that fight.
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
Well I will ask you, how do you fancy his chances vs Wladimir or Vitali?
I don't really like his chances vs Sam Peter, Cris Arreola, Alexander Dimitrenko, or Sultan Ibragimov.
IMO he's the ex-Soviet southpaw version of John Ruiz.....1 Ruiz is enough

Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
More importantly. Has this Drummond got a chance? He certainly looks to keep himself in shape which is a nice change for a heavyweight and he has KO'd 20 from 26 so he may carry some power. I'll be slightly interested in this!

HIs record is far too padded to know whether he has power.

it's a joke right ?
who was able to KO ruiz ? not many fighters, in fact I only remind Tua...
according to you people being not able to ko ruiz are crap, I can't agree more, Holyfield has not been able to do so 3 times in a row. it tells you a lot hos holyfield is a journeyman.
Ruslan is a good fighter, he can punch and he has good boxing skill, being defeated less than 5 times in the amateur. but I agree that on TV is not anything special, it's just that he's a good boxer with good techniques...and very very difficult to box due to his southpaw style.
I won't say he's the top noth right now, but I cannot see Arreola, Sam peter and a lot of fighters to defeat him now....
just my thoughts

Was the Chagaev on SKY?

Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
that was a narly cut but im still of the opinion that why should the other guy be made to suffer like that when he was behind on the scorecards and chagaev winning the fight by retiring hurt.
i had it 59-55 and wasnt impressed with chagaev at all
-
Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
I think Chagaev showed he's a good solid champion.

#1 No it wasn't a joke
#2 John Ruiz isn't known for taking dangerous fights, the fact he got in with Tua is still AMAZING to me. But other than Tua John Ruiz has NEVER set foot in the ring with a big time power puncher anywhere near their prime. Andrew Golota dropped Johnny 2 times and still lost a UD 114-111, 114-111, 113-112.....my point was not that John Ruiz was just a shit fighter my point is that he is a shit PROTECTED fighter just like all the other WBA trash.
#3 Evander Holyfield is 46 years old and a former cruiserweight at that. This division right now has NO title holder under 6'6 240 pounds...Evander Holyfield damn well better be considered just a journeyman right now!
#4 Ruslan is a decent fighter as an amateur he won like 82 of 85 fights he even beat Savon. The problem is Ruslan hasn't tested himself vs the best, the only thing right now that makes him better than David Haye is that he has experience as a heavyweight vs other decent (albeit protected) heavyweights. He is a southpaw but to tell you the truth I was more impressed with Sultan Ibragimov than Ruslan Chagaev....better handspeed, better ring generalship, and KO power.

Oh Lyle here you go again with this shit about size. If Evander was in his pomp now he would no doubt be undisputed HW champ. Same goes for Tyson, Ali, Foreman,Holmes and plenty of other "GREAT" past champions who weren't 6'6 and 240 lbs. They would all obliterate the Klits in their primes and deep down you know it.
And what a suprise you are more impressed with Sultan than Ruslan because at the end of the day he made Wlad look ultra boring.

Re: forgotten man of the heavyweight division fights this saturday
I'll agree Ruiz is shit though!
