~BCD comments on Calzaghe retirement~
If this shit ain't class, then I don't know what it is.
You the man, BCD... :appl: Well carried out kid.
“I applaud Joe’s decision. It’s obvious he and his family gave it a lot of thought. Timing is everything and to leave center stage at his peak is rare and certainly comparable to the retirements of Rocky Marciano and Jim Brown. Joe left on his own terms. What could be better? He held the super middleweight championship longer than anyone, successfully defended it a record-21 times, unified the titles, and then moved up to light heavyweight beating two future Hall of Famers. He has been a man for all seasons and will be an inspiration to me as I look to meet and beat his records. On behalf of all your boxing fans I say, ‘Thank you, Joe.’ And now I am ready to succeed Joe as the new king. I have dethroned two world champions in Tomasz Adamek and Antonio Tarver and defended the title against Glen Johnson. I’m only 26 years old and I’m ready to fight the best at 175 pounds for a very long time. Welcome to the Dawson era.”

Yeah true that, you can't accuse any of them of arrogance.
Must admit though Gary Russell Jr has completely slipped my radar, who the fuck is he?

Re: ~BCD comments on Calzaghe retirement~
A 126 pound southpaw who didn't make his weight in the Olympics, he passed out trying to make weight, then apparently the chinese medical group deemed him unfit to fight so he was kicked out of the tournament before it ever started. He has amazing speed, I wish I could show you his pro debut. His handspeed is similar to Andre Berto's but he seems to be more accurate, and more deliberate with each punch.
-
Re: ~BCD comments on Calzaghe retirement~
Just read that on fightnews about an hour ago. Good on Dawson to speak like that. Jermain Taylor even said some nice things about Calzaghe. Carl Froch was the only one who talked down on him lol.

Is he a little black guy who fought on Shobox on the undercard, yeah I did see it, on Shobox about 3 weeks ago on the undercard to that undefeated weltwerweight clash with Orlando Cruz.
Yeah he was pretty excting, very confident aggressive fighter definitely one to watch.

Re: ~BCD comments on Calzaghe retirement~
Nicely said by Dawson...though it does mean the end of the most likely person to beat him at 175. Its Dawsons stage now, he's a likeable fighter and he's good to watch.

Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Good to see a couple of top American fighters respect Joe even though alot of US fans and writers dont.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
I think it shows there class by not saying Joe is running and scared to fight.Unlike a certain Carl Froch!

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Dawson and Taylor should stick to fighting , because when they open their mouths they talk bullshit ;D

Jesus you really come across as a bitter and twisted old fuck Al. I've been a big Calzaghe fan over the years but can see the flaws in his resume. He's also one of the biggest hypocrites in sport but you can't deny how talented he is.
Personally I commend Dawson and Taylor for showing such class. Froch on the other hand has shown again this week how ridiculous he is.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
I thought Dawson and Taylor did what every fellow boxer should do for retirees. This is not golf. Love him or hate him, the man put his health on the line for a living. When you get in that ring anything can happen. I give him respect and it is nice to see class in the boxing world. I wish him well in retirement and good health and times with his family.

Froch is like the new Junior Witter, he talks about Joe all the time like Junior did Hatton to get some attention. I know he just wants bigger fights and paydays but it gets irritating.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Well put blegit. Taking notes Al? cos your anti Calzaghe posts make every other opinion you have on boxing seem worthless because of your childishness and blinkered versions of events.

Al loves Calzaghe really;)
He is just grief stricken at Joe's retirement.
-
Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Two classy statements. Though I think Taylor had a bit of an ulterior motive, just wanted to have a (well deserved) dig at Froch.

Agreed, regardless of whether there is some truth to some of what Froch said, he showed a complete lack of class & made himself look bitter & pathetic for not getting a fight that in truth he hadn't earned. Calzaghe has been a great champion & its depressing that people always have to have a go at a fighter when they decide to put other things ahead of our entertainment, e.g. family, health etc. I thought Dawson had probably the best chance at beating Calzaghe, but it shows what a class act he is not dwelling on that & congratulating him on his career.

Im not childish at all just bitter and twisted.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Just read Taylor's statement on fightnews. Good comments from Jermain especially when you consider he has just lost the opportunity for a multi million dollar mega fight.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
basically sums up the opinion that ive always had about dawson and taylor, they are both decent and respectable sportsmen. i think trash talk is fine between those that are in the business and can be healthy for boxing as a sport. but in my eyes joe has made the right decision at the right time and should be respected for that. his achievements will make british boxing proud for a long time to come.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
Just a shame that Hopkins beat kelly as that would have been the last meaningful fight Joe would have had to take.
Would have been big money too if Kelly beat Hopkins soundly.
Shame.

But it does make Joe's win even better it shows Hopkins wasnt washed up when Joe fought him.

Re: Dawson and Taylor pay tribute to Calzaghe
i thought calzaghe was overwhelming hopkins to the point of where he could have stopped him. then he took a dive not once but twice. it was plain to see

John Scully said Chad Dawson didn't say this but regardless if he did or not. Chad Dawson is still a class act he is one of my favorites at the moment.

Re: ~BCD comments on Calzaghe retirement~
