sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
1st of all cintron failed to make the 10 count for a clean punch and it should of been given a TKO at the end of the 5th yet the lame excuse of saved by the bell (clearly stated before the fight you cannot be saved by the bell in any round) robbed him of an easy nights work.
Then a ridiculous point gets taken off in the 12th round for something so pety it was an utter joke. And then to top it all off what should of been a resounding points win for martinez (116-110 at the very least) gets scored a draw by majority decision and the man who did everything possible to win the fight including knocking his man down for a 10 count has to come out with only a draw!!!
Off to the next fight and Ali Funeka warts and all clearly won at least 9 of the 12th rounds and should of got the decision over nate (i had it 114-112 for funeka). Ok so this isnt exactly a robbery compared to the martinez screwjob but despite having a complete glass chin the guy clearly out worked campbell for at least 2/3rds of the fight and should of got at the very least a draw from it!!
PS:Angulo looked awesome, cannot wait for him to take over at 154 and fight williams!!
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Funeka definately doesnt have a glass chin. He showed he can recover from a punch pretty well even after being knocked down. Nate was the bigger, stronger man. I give Funeka credit for even going through with the fight, let alone nearly winning it. I had it a draw by the way.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Martinez definately got the shaft..Cintron looked very lethargic...Had the Nate/Funeka fight a draw. After the knockdown Nate never changed anything up
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Case #1
Martinez got triple robbed last night
1) It looked to me that the ref waved off the fight in the 7th
Robbery 1......Martinez TKO victory
2) 12th round Cintron was turning his head down which caused the placement of Martinez's shots
Robbery 2......Point deduction
3) Ultimately this was caused by item number two here. 2 judges had it 6 rounds a piece (no idea how they had that, in my estimation this was a very easy fight to score 8 rounds clearly went to Martinez, 2 rounds to Cintron, the first 2 rounds were debateable and could have gone either way because neither guy did anything.)
Robbery 3......Scoring was horrendous.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Case #2 Funeka, I disagree that this was a robbery, There are legitimate arguments depending on how you are scoring a fight to give it to either man or even a draw, just because it was a little different than yours doesn't mean it's a robbery.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
I couldn't finish watching the Martinez fight, it was boring so I ffwded through it. But caught the knockdown cause I thought the fight was over then saw them fighting again? Seemed like b.s.
However, watched all of Nate and Ali. Although I agree it was a close fight it's nearly impossible for me to award a fight to someone who was almost out twice in the fight. Funeka outworked Campbell but clearly received more damage. Nate punched himself out, and wasn't busy enough in the middle rounds but he landed cleaner harder shots. If you take away the knockdowns you could call this one a robbery, but Funeka was nearly out for 5 minutes of that fight.
Hats off to Funeka for being a warrior, but there was no robbery, he got beat up.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
No way was the Funeka-Campbell fight a robbery, it was one of those close fights that could just about have gone either way & most people had it either a draw or 114-112 for Nate.
The Martinez-Cintron fight was stupid though, I gave Cintron at most 3 rounds.

I'm OK with Nate getting the decision, and as he said Funeka's day will come.
Robbery point # 4) Cintron got 2:30 to recover his whits after the KD.
I hope Cintron fights someone with a vicious upper cut next. Someone could probably just hold their fist down low for him to slam his face into!

it wasn't considered save by the bell.. The ref eventually said that he made the 10 count and was not counted out, regardless of the bell.
If you look at Nate's reaction when they announced him the winner he seemed pretty surprised lol.. I had Funeka winning, but that was a fight i could see going either way w/ the knockdowns.. Cintron got really lucky, and after about the 2nd round it seemed Martinez was dictating the fight and was on point.

Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
The Nate decision could be argueable but Sergio Martinez got robbed big time.

I agree but this is why i am no longer a big boxing fan. Its too bad too, but if this keeps up i am done watching.

Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Bullshit, Funeka did not get robbed, you all just score whatever the hbo guys say...in the stretch of Funeka rounds that Letterman gave him Nate won I think the 6th or 7th, and that would have gave him the fight on lettermans card. You cant call close fights like that robberies, make you look like a crybaby.

You dont think alot of those rounds were close? After rewatching the fight, it was closer than alot are making it out. People just love to whine about judges it's become the thing to do.

i agree, i thought the Campbell/Funeka fight was a draw but it could easily go for either guy, but on that note the 2 kd's do come to play
Cintron/Martinez fight was utter bullshit

Are you talking about the Campbell fight or the Martinez one? Because Martinez got absolutely robbed; the Campbell fight could've gone either way.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Martinez was robbed big time!
I thought Campbell just edged Funeka!
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Funeka did not get robbed. Getting dropped in the championship rounds and struggling to the end ain't exactly the best way to win the titles
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Martinnez got screwed not just by the decision but by how the whole fight went...he cuts cintron gets ruled a headbutt, cintron decides to get punched in the back of the head martinez gets a point deducted, just bogus.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Along the lines of KillerSheep here
Martinez robbed of a TKO.Cintron actually willingly took a knee after getting cracked and tried to polatic the ref
Martinez robbed of a point
Martinez robbed of a deserved descision...just bent over by the judges, pants around ankles and not a thing he could do about it.
The public robbed because we're expected to buy that Cintron is still viable...and willing to lay it all out there. He'll get another huge fight.
Campbell vs. Funeka no robbery.Had 114-112 Nate with Funeka putting out a quality effort, sweeping middle rounds and Nate headed to 140.Like Campbell alot but I see the writing on the wall,Hope he goes out on top.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Campbell stopped fighting after the first knockdown and let Funeka into the fight. He didn't do anything right but he was in the fight and I thought it was pretty close, close enough for him to lose or win but a draw? Martinez was robbed clearly of a K.O. even if by the smallest margin Cintron made it up before ten, the referee waved his hands and then realized his so called error after Martinez was in mindset on his way home. I can just visualize the judges and the referee going back to their hotel rooms guided by a seeing eye dog.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Martinez was clearly robbed. Funeka was a far closer call, it was a brave effort and a draw would have been okay with me. The judging was off in both fights. As usual.
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
But for all his heart i just dont believe nate has the legs for it anymore.
Showed in spurts that when he can turn on he is in a different league to guys like funeka.
But you cant completely shut off for 6-7 successive rounds, do nothing other than get outworked and hope to take a decision. I have no qualms with those that scored it for nate as has already been mentioned if you get knocked down twice in a fight and it goes to the scorecards you have to expect the worst.
But where martinez/cintron is concerned....daylight robbery and if the boxing world gets its knickers in a twist over valuev/holyfield, surely this decision deserves to be analysed?
-
Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
IMO i think that Cintron don't have anything to get in (154) pnds. , looked very confused , probably that method in changing different trainers isn't working , to me in the fight he didn't demonstrated more skill of boxing , how to fight a southpaw , seems to have less power on his punches , etc..... i really didn't like how he looks on that fight , and now he commented that will comes down to WW division again to face to Cotto probably in June 13 of this year , Does he know what he really want ? , Sergio Martinez really demonstrated a good fight , he won that fight.....
Although Funeka and Nate Campbell they made a really tremendous fight , but IMO Campbell won the fight , he gave the most power punches and fought like a really Champion , he really need to fix that problem with making Weight , that did cost him his Belts............

I agree with this post. Martinez was completely robbed. The Campbell-Funeka fight was close. I had it a draw or Nate by a point.

This is my similar feeling. I thought the knockdowns are what really pulled Nate through. Nate was sure the more busted up of the two.
Funeka is a tall lanky fighter. I thought it was a pretty exciting fight and Lennox didn't annoy me as much as usual. Lederman was scoring pretty well too (must have heard everyones criticism).

You know, I keep hearing Cintron as the likely opponent for Cotto, I have to wonder why in gods name Arum would make that match? Cintron has looked awful in his last three fights, and then always cries like a bitch about things not going his way. There are much more deserving guys. Mosely, of course, but he doesn't want to fight in NY. Hell, even within Arum's stable you have Clottey who is long overdue for a serious payday, and who would likely make a more entertaining fight. Why would Arum give Cintron an undeserved crack and leave his own guy out in the cold? The only reason I can think of is he wants to match Cotto easier for a little while to build his rep back up after the Margarito fight.

It's the Rican Connection. It's a home turf fight. Fighting for the PR's best.

Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
funeka lost the last two rounds, the championship rounds. he got dropped in the 11th and did absolutely anything in the 12th. if they gave it a draw, everybody could have been happier but i think campbell outworked funeka in the last two rounds while dropping him twice during the fight. on the other hand, the martinez cintron fight was a robbery in broad daylight. and you could hear how dumb cintron is in the end. he did a stupid victory dance and when the draw was announced he kept mumbling about "man, everybody know i won that fight" . i think cintron lost his mind after the margarito fight.

Would be the sort of annoying fight you just know cintron would raise his game and run it close and come out a lot better off for a battling defeat rather than the farcical draw he got giftwrapped the other night.
Cintrons the kind of fighter who could potentially blow you out in 4/5 but if you box him clever and dont fall for his pretty obvious fightplan you`ll always get the decision over!!

Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
I don’t know why but Cintron looked to me like Valuev, he controlled the ring for no reason and the decision was again far from the reality.

Re: sergio martinez and Ali Funeka both got robbed last night!!!
Martinez got robbed. But not Campbell.
