Basically the WBO may sanction it...say's Warren;D

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
AMIR KHAN is close to getting his crack at the world title — just four months after getting knocked out in 54 seconds.
Lightweight Khan’s career was at the crossroads when he was sparked by Breidis Prescott in Manchester last December.
But the Bolton boy, 22, gets an unexpected chance against Marco Antonio Barrera in Manchester on March 14 after Nate Campbell was stripped of his titles.
American Campbell could not make the nine-stone weight limit for his clash against Ali Funeka.
Saturday’s fight went ahead with Campbell winning on points — but at catchweight. He was forced to forfeit his WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
Promoter Frank Warren said: “Khan v Barrera might well become a title fight. I hope the WBO will sanction it.”

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
OFFS:rolleyes:
Hang on Warren I thought the winner was going to fight Alex Arthur;D
-
Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
I predicted this () when they said it will be for an interim title.
Even if Campbell still had the WBO belt, there was already talk of him letting it go to pursue bigger fights up in weight.
-
Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
Well Barrera is ranked number 2 with 1 of them, is it WBO? So its only fair that he fights for it. he happens to be fighting Khan so lets make it a title fight.
But then I think about Khan, I like Khan and Boltons only 1 town away from me so a local lad too. But I wouldnt say he deserved his chance or earnt his chance. I think hes just landed lucky on this. But fair play.
I also see that not that many people have their money on Barrera to beat Khan, they see him as perfectly suited to Khans style. Hows Barrera ranked 2, Khan 7 and all the boxers hes been dodging who have a domestic or european titles are all ranked below and havnt landed lucky and aint gettin a title shot?

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
Prescott must be p***** off if Khan gets a title shot having blow him away in under a minute.

Just proves that the better and more experienced your promoter is the more doors open for you.
That and Frank owning the WBO;D

the result would be the same, hence, the dodge and no re-match.

sadly boxing politics at work once again.
Had funeka of won on saturday night he would of still been unable to claim the championships he was fighting for because his opponent had failed to make the weight.
So his opponent starts with a 2-3 pound advantage and even then if he overcomes the odds to win the fight he gets punished because of his opponents failings??
If this does become a world title fight it`ll just make my burning desire for a barrera win just that bit stronger!

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
I'm going to pray every night about this. IF it becomes a title fight, yes I'm a Barrera fan and want him to win but Christ on a bike, Khan has done nothing to deserve it. The man who beat him - where's he? The only positive thing to come from this is if he beats Barrera (please god no) then Khan gets to mix it with the big boys and knocked out in every meaningful fight that is left of his career.

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
What was it Carl Froch called it, The Warren Boxing Organisation ;D

There's even less chance of Khan fighting the big boys should he (FW) get hold of the WBO belt.
They'll get at least half-a-dozen defences as "world" champ out of it. Amongst the unknown no-name challengers there'll be a few Brit superfights with Alex Arthur (cert), Nicky Cook and Ricky Burns.

Not true, actually. Campbell officially vacated the belts by failing to make wait, but Funeka would have won those vacated belts had he won since he made weight. Since he lost, the titles remain vacant.

;D yeah, world class for sure:rolleyes:
the one thing we have in our favour (& increases our chances of him being knocked out again) is his own amazing self confidence. He will believe he can beat them:gayfight2:

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
The more we start ignoring sanctioning body belts, the better.
When Khan and Barrera step into the ring in March, there will only be one legit lightweight champ, and that's the winner of Marquez-Diaz, who will be the Ring/lineal champ.

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
This is an obvious one, Warren was always going to have that WBO belt ready once the fight was on. Also to whoever said Barrera wasn't fancied, check out the Barrera v Khan thread that I think Missy started, Barrera is almost a 3 to 1 favourite amongst posters on here.

The only good thing coming out of this I think is Campbell moving up a division. Who fancies the winner of pac man - hatton to take on Campbell?

I dont think Nate will get his chance to crash teh big time at lightwelter cuz you have good fighters like Holt and Bradley ahead of him in the queue.
Shame really cuz I think Nate could have had a good scrap with Pac but his best chance at big fights was at lightweight and he blew it . All he had to do was make weight for a couple more fights and mega matches were waiting for him.
I see Barrera becoming the first ever 4 weight Mexican champion and Nate falling into obscurity

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
yet more damage done to the sport if this happens - two undeserving , atg present, fighters getting a world title shot.
more damage to the alphabet boys mind which isn't such a bad thing from my point of view.
the more and more this happens the more weight it will give to the Ring belt - thats the only one that means anything to me now. I know who the best fighters are in each division.
Let the alphabet boys continue on their date with oblivion ;)

Barrera undeserving? after his career ? what u been smoking ? its good sh*t whatever it is!
Erik got a shot at the WBC title after 3 straight losses ( 2 by ko ) and nobody said boo
-
Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
'at present' I said - let him whoop Khan then take it from there. I will be willing him to get there believe me. Yes he's beaten the best in the past and is a living legend and yes it helps you queue jump.
I said the same about Bruno when he got the McCall shot - I loved Bruno (not in that sense)
The winner of this fight doesn't deserve to call themselves the world champion do they.

He has to beat Barrera first. No matter how old he is that will not be easy.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Warren did get the WBO to take this. He got them to let Calzaghe fight bums for years before he stepped it up. He always seems to have the WBO in tow!

I would be pissed off to. These alphabet boys are a joke. Barrera comes back takes on a couple nobodies and Khan is coming back off a 1st round blitz and they might get a crack at a title. What a shame.
-
Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
Neither one deserves a title shot.Barrera is miles away from being the Champion he once was and Khan is equally distant from being the championship calibur phenom some proclaimed him to be....oh and he just got KTFO inside of one round. But the Warren factor rules the day :dunce:.The winner should have to fight Prescott....in a phone booth.

y'know I never noticed.
that should suit Barrera fine and kill Khan;D
Barrera used to be the WBO's darling till he went on his own and got the WBC belt after which time the WBO no longer wanted to play with him.
Bunch of kids.
And in the grand scheme of perfect worlds whereby people earned their shot at titles, neither has done that in this division. :-\ Now if I was running things:cool:

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
I'm gonna let my feelings be known. I want Barrera to rip his fucking heart out, and feed it to him.
-
Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
Khan doesn't seem to have hardly any support from the hardcores. Considering the amount going, is it possible Barrera has the crowd support on the night? ;D

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
reps to kel and fenster.
khan will have the no. 42 brigade on his side, Barrera will have everyone else:) told 'em it'll be like a home coming.:D

ha ha me too! What would that do for Khan's future though? I don't think he would have one personally.

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight

Prescott will earn it the hard way, like a real fighter.

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
fukk khan i hope Barrera kos his ass.

Re: Khan v Barrera may become a title fight
I kinda feel bad for Funeka. He fights the real champ who outweighed him, loses a close battle that he did everything he could to win, and then the titles are vacant only for two other fighters to have a crack at them. And I doubt Khan will be put anywhere near a ring with Funeka, assuming Khan wins.
