Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Everytime I speak to boxing fans or trawl through forums Floyd Mayweather gets so much hate. I cant understand it. He has won titles from Super-Featherweight up to Light-Middleweight. He has beaten an impressive array of fighters. I will admit that he comes across as cocky and arrogant but I believe that's an act to come across as the bad guy. I don't think he's like that outside of the ring. A couple of his matches have been dull but the majority haven't. His speed, technical brilliance and awesome defence is a joy to watch. I think he gets flak for supposedly ducking Margerito and Cotto but after watching their last performances you can see why he didn't bother to chase fights with them. I dont understand why he's hated so much. I hope he comes back sooner rather than later.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I won't lie he's my favourite fighter & I agree the arrogant thing is just an act. But fact is the only way he might come back is to fight Pacquiao. I just think he was sick of boxing. I think one thing is that there are less Mayweather fans who are simply one-fighter fans in the way that a lot of Hatton, De La Hoya & Pacquiao fans are, partly because he is unable to inspire the same devotion with his fans that these guys can
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I honestly thing he was a great fighter. As far as hating him, I think that's to strong a word. His Image persona is to create controversy. Guy that use this style are attention whores... He gets off on it. He believes that the more people there are pay attention to him (good and bad) the more potential he has for earning power. Point being his "haters" are by his own design and not those of the boxing fan. Calling your hero a "p*ssy" is a pure instigator that the boxing fan falls for.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
As brilliant as he has been he didn't test himself enough to talk the way he does and to say that he's the greatest of all-time.
Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley, Tito Trinidad, etc etc all tested themselves as much as they could when they were fighting.
Floyd has NEVER unified any weight class he has fought at and he has always left at least one guy in each division who could have challenged him.
The glaring omissions of Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, and others hurts Floyd's legacy
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Mayweather is hated for a plethora of reasons by many. I do NOT hate him because of the following (all of which I do not approve of):
-he's black
I DO hate him for these reasons:
- he fights dirty with his elbows
- he is a complete moron
- he said that HBO is a racist company after he fought on their network how many times and never complained while getting a paycheck?
- his moniquer is "money" how much more arrogant can you get?
- he basis his legacy on making the most money than any other fighter. Although there are so many more fighters who earned their paycheck in the ring by diligence and fighting "the best"
- he doesn't fight the best in the division. He has only fought newly crowned champs in every division above SupFeatherW
- He never answers interview questions, he just goes on a tangent about his new car or his new watch.
- His arrogance and stupidity are not an act... he really is that dumb. He was just managed well by his family who are all ex- champs.
- He fakes so hard by crying in the ring after every fight. I mean seriously, grow up.
- He speaks about himself in the 3rd person. A true sign of ultimate arrogance
- Honestly, I hate him for the judges giving him the decision in the first castillo fight. That one I can't help. It's just me being mad for a poor decision. Congrats to him winning the second fight, but castillo would have KOed him in the third fight!
- His family smells bad
- Mayweather Sr looked like the predator on crack when he had dreds.
- He wore ostrich skin trunks for a fight to be flashy.
- I hated his entrance to the Gatti fight ontop of the elevated chair dressed as a gladiator. His is no gladiator. He is a feather-fisted twaat. Kudos for KOing Hatton, but one good performance out of how many fights? And finally... a quality opponent, although not at his weight.
Shall I go on?
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I think PBF is top notch and his defensive skills are pretty amazing to say the least.
He does though need to soundly beat people like Lyle has listed in order to be a great and i wouldn't see him having any trouble in doing so at all.
Think he'd wipe the floor with all the above mentioned really.
Winning belts at the various weights that Floyd has is special in itself so i have nothing but respect for him.
Like i said he's top notch Material and his ringcraft is different gear:cool:

Considerin you had to resort to hating him because 'his family smell bad' & because of how his dad looks you probably haven't got much more that would be a reasonable complaint. I can't see Castillo KOin him, I think by the 2nd fight PBF had figured him out & would have done the same in a 3rd.

thats weird:confused: a few years ago I distinctly remember you saying he had to fight guys like Delahoya and Hatton to solidify his greatness
The man was a training machine and dedication and discipline was 2nd to none.
I think being a 5 weight champion is pretty damn impressive seeing he started at such a low weight and managed to keep climbing all the way..He attained an abundance of accolades and achievments by 29, and to me is quite possibly the best skilled fighter off all time.. The guy is a perfect combonation of speed power and technique and the best/ practical defense I have ever seen
I wouldnt consider him an underdog against any fighter in history from 147 and lower. The guy has it all
The fact that no fighter had ever been able to push him to a life in death struggle is a testemant to his greatness, and I think thats what blurs the line for many

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
OK JT so you see no challenges that Floyd skipped past or that could still be out there for Floyd?
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Because he's a fucking prick.
He's an egomaniac, and it's not an act.
He's been tried, and convicted twice, for hitting women, and just got a slap on the wrist for it. :furious2:
His horrible, outside the ring antics, totally diminish anything he does in the ring IMO.
I hope he stays retired, because I don't miss him one bit.
He's a spoiled, immature, brat, that needs a good swift kick in the balls, and I would gladly volunteer for the job. ;D

I ain't sayin its right, but he's never been convicted. He plead guilty on one occasion & was acquitted on the other

That's might not be exactly true... If the Judge sentenced him it would mean that he was convicted by the Judge. I never followed Mayweather so I'm not aware of the story. Had I known that before I would change my definition of 'distaste' to "Hate". I can't stand "Cowards"...like that!

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I think most people dont like him but respect him. Thats his own doing. I dont think there is a person who seen him fight that doesnt recognise his skills. Im no fan myself but I think he was a very good fighter. Hes just not likeable to a lot of people, myself included.

There will always be a challenge out their no matter what..
Hopkins-Dawson
Calzaghe-Dawson
Hopkins might be done for good
Calzaghe is retired
But there is a threat out their for both, Chad Dawsonhe is just an example, Floyd decided he didnt want to fight anymore, he dosent want to put his life, body on the line anymore.. When you fight when you dont want to anymore thats when you hurt yourself or cant do your best..
We dont decide when its over, he does... you can hate him all you want and post how you feel ripped off because he didnt fight this one or that one and how he dosent deserve to be called great...While you all speculate there is already a plaque and place set aside in Canastota for Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather jr... That is a fact!!!

He thinks his name sits alongside true greats like Ali and SRR:D, I think that's insulting. His name does not even belong with guys like DLH, Tito, Mosley etc...

Hhhhhm I wonder if beating them would satisfy boxing fans. I can assure that once he beats them, people will still bitch about why he didn't face X guy or somethinng.

A bit silly to call himself "Money" while standing next to ODLH.

I think he did answered questions about boxing WHEN HE WAS ACTIVE. But now that he's retired, hate him or not, he has all reasons to be annoyed if people keep asking him if he would face this or that guy and do his act instead of answering boxing questions.

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I dont hate the man.Im just tired of his psuedo super hero lore and hearing about him every five minutes.Great skills in fact.He lives for the drama, and getting people riled up.Quite the showman.
Especially sinse there are top tier fighters right now that...you know....are actually fighting one another and taking chances.

Fans do that with EVERY fighter although most All-Time Greats have a shorter list of guys they could have fought than Floyd.
When did Floyd ever take a chance with his career???

I think he needed to test himself more as well. All the best fighters in history fought the best in their division. Yes we all know he could beat Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Tszyu and those types of fighters but he I would rather see it than just know it.
I love Floyd the fighter. He's one of my favorites EVER! But Floyd the person regardless if it's a public image or if that's how he really is, is still an immature little prick.

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
People always hate those doing better than themselves it's natural especially when floyd (intellegently) brings most of it on himself. Looks to work pretty well cause for a guy hated i see his name here everyweek and him coming back is more anticipated than the what the boxers that are already here are doing. They all hate him yet bring his name up as a benchmark for every time a fighter wants attention...and it goes on and on. Same way everyone loved dogs so much when vic was involved now that he's in jail and forgotton you cant give one of those pits the world cared so much about away, donations are back down to pretty much nothing as well...it was watching a young rich athlete go down that was the big deal not the mutts. I would worry if i were floyd when people stopped hating...that's when he's fallen off the boat. It's funny the connection between his hatred and his increasing bank acct of those mainly who hate him.....bottom line they can't beat him in the ring so this is another route to vent jealousy....

Im with this,Not doubting his skillset and belts but I just dont think that he's fully maximized his talent, and frankly he does not show an interest in doing so.Hes all about self. For me,I dont think beating a Mosley...at lightweight or even now...is a giving thing.Nor a Cotto,Tszyu etc.Its one thing to prove greatness against the best, but entirely different to assume it.Theres a reason a man in peak form steps aside,I dont know really why.Be it mental, physical, motivation or drive.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
There is no doubting his skill as a fighter he is brilliant but its a shame his mentality to take on the best fighters lets him down.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I hate Mayweather as a person but you gotta love his style of boxin the way he fights.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
If I was to get 5 bucks everytime I've argued in PBF's favor on YouTube I would be Philthy Rich ;D. He acts dumb, or maybe pretends. But you can't deny his absolute skill in the ring. Cotto and Margarito would all get beaten pretty easily. Mosley is vulnerable to the jab and PBF, when he throws it, has a phenomenal jab. Then people would say Mosley was too old  and would have KO'ed Floyd in his prime. Pacquiao is vulnerable to counterpunching as would lose as well. It would be nice to see Floyd prove it but as has been said, he doesn't have the same drive as he did. You can't fight with less than 100% effort.

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
As a self-admitted Floyd fan, I really have no problem with people hating Floyd. When people bash him, their logic and facts are so obviously skewed with bias or ignorance that it is usually not even necessary to rebute them.
Here is the fact: Floyd is one of the greatest fighters of all time. You can go on about how he never did this or that, but think about it: how many guys in the history of the sport can you name that had the total package like him? How many great can you name that had the comination of physical gifts, virtuoso skill, and unbreakable discipline that he had? You have to go back to guys like Sugar Ray Robinson.
As a person, I'm not a huge fan of the guy. But as a fighter, he is one of the greatest of all time, and instead of complaining about how he never did this or that, you should enjoy the guy while he's around (his fights, not his personality) because we may never see a virtuoso like this again.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
He doesnt fight the best available fights sometimes, and he's a bitch for not wanting to fight Mosely. I like his skills, but he really needs to fight guys like Cotto, Berto, Clottey instead of just saying he could beat them, prove it...
-

Who could have challenged Floyd at 130?
Who could have challenged Floyrd at 135?
He whether people like ir ot not won the Undisputed Welterweight title, and he beat its former Champion(he beat Judah and then beat Baldomir for the Undisputed Title)
He went up to Junior Middleweight and beat Oscar De La Hoya under Oscar's own terms.
He moved back down and beat the man who was the best at 140 and knocked him out.
Who was left for Mayweather to fight? Margarito has been exposed, Miguel got beat and obviously wasnt ready for someone Mayweather's caliber. So who was left for Mayweather to fight?
If Mayweather had fought Cotto he would have beaten him and then years laters to now people would see how much of a better fighter Cotto is and would say "he never fought Miguel in his prime, he should fight him now"
So who did Mayweather miss out on fighting that would have garnered him any more respect?
And people bash Mayweather for not taking fights against people like Cotto, Berto and Clottey?
Alright why is no one talking crap about Mosley not fighting Clottey and Margarito not rematching Clottey?
How about Berto not fighting Clottey or Margarito?
Because he isnt ready, and if he isnt ready then Mayweather shouldn't be bashed for not fighting him.
Mayweather seems to get hate for who he doesnt fight but no one else in the weight class that doesn't fight that person is left alone.
Mayweather hate is very one sided in my opinion.

Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
I don't agree with the idea that look what happened to Cotto and Margarito in their last fights, Floyd was right not to fight them. Who's he gonna fight? I'd stil love to see Floyd-Cotto.
Anyway I don't really care, I'm a bit in the middle, I've enjoyed some of his fights but I'm not a big fan. As for any big name fighter there's a lot of reasons to dislike (or like) Floyd, his style of boxing, his act, his fans, etc.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
let me put Floyd fans into perspective...
Mayweather fans are apologists and defenders, were as Cotto/Hatton/Pac fans are blatant self promoters.
You judge for yourself about Floyd.. everyone else talks about him and we defend were as the others all talk about their guy and Floyd... You guys bring more attention to him than we do;)
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
MAJESTY is correct.
Just rememeber what weight this guy started in the game.
Its like roy jones moving up to heavy weight and the other heavyweights are williams and cotto but there natural heavyweights.
Floyd moved up in weight and beat guys that are naturally bigger than him.
-
Re: Everyone seems to hate on Floyd Mayweather
Alright why is no one talking crap about Mosley not fighting Clottey and Margarito not rematching Clottey?
How about Berto not fighting Clottey or Margarito?- Majesty
Mosely would fight Clottey, I am sure of it. Margarito probably knows he was lucky that Clottey broke his hand in the first fight. Berto isn't ducking people he's up an coming, a little diffrent than floyd who was clearly in his prime when he "retired"....blah blah ducker!
