Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Have not seen a thread yet but anyone catch last night on ESPN about Hopkins stating he wants to fight Adamek?...
What would the Undisputed CW title do for his already platinum legacy?
Where would he ranks as top fighters of this era?
Would he be considered in all time terms above Jones or Calzaghe?
Where would it put him on the all time pound for pound list?
OR would it really do nothing?
Curious on opinions..

Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I already consider him the greatest of his era. I really believe that history will consider him a top 15 fighter of all time, maybe top 10 when its all said and done. A win at cruiserweight would be amazing. But at 44 never having fought anyone who hit as hard as Adamek or is as physically strong, its a big gamble for Hopkins. Hopkins definately could outbox him but I worry more about him getting clipped than winning rounds. Hopkins is my favorite active fighter but I think hed be biting off a little more than he can chew. Ive been saying Hopkins may get old overnight for the better part of a decade so who knows he may may prove me wrong again. I hope he does if it happens.

Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Beating Adamek/Cruiserweight champ would definitley add to Hopkins Legacy. I also think Hopkins would have a shot at beating him. The only people that have shown Hopkins trouble are guys with very fast hands, like Taylor and Calzaghe......Adamek throws in combo but I wouldnt say his hands are real fast......
I think Hopkins has the speed, technique, and power to trouble Adamek...
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
IMO Hopkins has a great chance to shock us all again and get the win.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I been wanting him to go upto Cruiser weight since he beat Pavlik and could not secure a rematch with Calzaghe. No is no other fight out there for BHop that makes more sense then this fight. If I'm not mistaken cruiser was his pro debut weight. What a way to cap off 50 wins and possibly go out winning at the weight in which he started off with a loss. I hope it happens real soon...
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I favor Bernard but there is a possiblity that Hopkins might lose to a white boy again;D
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
great match up, id love to see it happen.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Like this one.Adamek is strong and explosive, good body mix.I honestly think Hopkins could keep him in check for a win.If a Cunningham and pretty green Banks are timing him with rights....Banks had no 2nd gear,Adamek just summed him up and pounced, adjusted well.Hopkins could not just look to sharp shoot though....waiting around to much. This would be a solid fight all the way.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Would be a great fight, definitely winnable for Hopkins who could outbox Adamek imo.
Who knows if he won this one he could even move up again and fight Nikolay Valuev or Chageav and go for a heavyweight belt, it's possible,
I think I'd fancy Manny Pacquaio against Valuev let alone Hopkins who would probably win every round.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
You know I said it was a high risk/low reward fight in the FNF thread.......but I am warming up to the idea.
I mean if Hopkins does lose, I mean he is like 100. But if he wins, winning the cruiserweight title would be really something (at any age).
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
As good as Adamek has looked Hopkins is no fool, he doesn't call out people 25 pounds heavier unless he sees something in their game that he could exploit. I would assume its the lack of explosive speed, needs to be set to punch, etc.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Yeah i gues the more I think about it, even if Hop lost, there is no shame in that. He could outbox him in a caution first kind of fight. I would favor Adamek as of now but idbe pulling for Hopkins. It would be a spectacular achievement for Bernard.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
At this point when Hopkins calls somebody out and it comes to fruition, I'd be shocked if he didn't win. So the consensus is that Hopkins could outbox him but he'd have to worry about getting clipped and KO'ed by the more powerful puncher? That makes it hard not to pick him for my money. Having said that of course Adamek is naturally the biggest guy Hopkins would have ever fought, but a size is hardly what you want going for you against Bernard. Thing that worries me is whether Hopkins can really put on more weight properly at 44, it's got to end somewhere. This isn't like fighting Pavlik who really wasn't any bigger than Hopkins naturally, although it could be in the sense that Adamek isn't quick or mobile enough to find him. GREAT fight if it's made imo.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I think Hopkins defensive skills would see him through to a UD, & I could see him doing the same to a few of the Heavyweights. Personally whilst I think Adamek is good, the fact that he was more or less even with Banks (who I think is very limited) last night for the first 6 rounds tells me that he's not an ELITE fighter, rather a really good one.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
awesome fight if it happens, but if Hopkins shocks the world again and beats Adamek, i want a vile of his sweat, cause goddam the man must have drank from the fountain of youth lol
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Adamek is a straight ahead plodder like Pavlik, I think Hopkins schools him easily. Would be very interested in the fight, though. IF Hopkins really wants the fight, it's pretty much a slam dunk he gets it as he would represent far and away the biggest payday available for Adamek.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
If Hopkins fights Adamek and wins an easy UD as I think he will, I really hope he steps up to heavyweight to challenge for a title. People always tend to favor the bigger guys, but the current crop of heavys are so slow I see Hopkins beating most of them with superior quickness and defense a la Jones schooling Ruiz. The Klits are too good with the jab for him to try, but if Chagaev beats Valuev, I think Hopkins could beat him by a fairly wide margin.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I think he has a chance to win but i also think he stinks the joint out, i dont realy want to see the fight, id actully like to see Adamek try his hand with the big boys, i mean theres nothing really at 200 lbs so why not follow Haye up to heavyweight?
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
If Hopkins and Adamek was to happen i would be very confident in Hopkins winning.
Adamek is too limited.
Only thing that could affect Hopkins is the big move up in weight.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Gotta say that I see hopkins outboxing adamek in this one if it comes off. Great idea.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Hopkins has always had some of the slickest foot work around and "old" or not the man will go 12 rounds if he lets you get that far.
Hopkins for the win... hands down.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I can't even fathom the greatness he would achieve with a win.
Its the modern equivalent of Bob Fitzsimmons.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Suppose Hopkins beats Adamek does that mean he goes on to fight Dawson??? If so does hopkins handle hit speed???
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Adamek would destroy B-Hop this is no Kelly Pavlik this is a true Cruiserweight. Yes he did fight at lighheavyweight but he was melted down this is Adamek's true weight and he is very dangerous in this divison. He can take a helluva shot and sure as shit can punch now with the extra weight. Also he is akward in a way people say he is a plodder but he does move very quick. It's not flash and flare that is appealing to the eye but he hits hard and he can get quick if he has to. There is a typical pattern to B-Hop's fight's he looks spectacular in one and then horrible in the other. Against Oscar great against Taylor not so great.Against Calzaghe not too good against Pavlik great. I am only going by the pattern here and to mess with Adamek would be a bad move for B-Hop on this one. Sure he would probably last the entire fight but he would be badly beaten up.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Now that Mayweather is retired B-hop is my favorite fighter. If he won vs Adamek... that would be phenominal. To then go against Valuev who he could beat in his sleep and win a heavyweight title, he would seal his legacy as one of the greatest boxers of history. Now, another question: when will he stop? It would be nice for him to stop on a win not a lose.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
one of two scenarios will take place if Hopkins meets Adamek (or any fighter):
1 - Hopkin's speed, ring savvy, technique, power will be too much for adamek and Hopkins will win comfortably on the score cards.....(ala Kelly Pavlik and Tarver)
2 - Hopkin's will realize he is in a tough fight and needs to be careful....He will use every trick, dirty tactic and slick move he has to make it an ugly, slow (not crowd pleasing), but safe fight for Hopkins and will most likely lose or possibly win a razor tight decision (ala Calzaghe and Taylor)
Hopkins will NOT be stopped or be blown out on points.........AND of course in scenario 2 Hopkins will claim he won and was robbed......
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
If he can keep defying age this would be a good fight for him.
He won't be able to get away with as much bullying and rough tactics as a cruiser because what ever way you spin it I don't think he'll be big or strong enough to get away with the things he did against Winky and Calzaghe against a younger cruiser weight.
Age HAS to catch up with Hopkins sooner or later... could be this fight... but if not he stands every chance of winning as long as he fights the right fight (which you would expect him to - he's Bernard Hopkins! ;)).
One thing I'm sure that we've all learned is never to write Hopkins off! ;)
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
It's a tougher fight than Pavlik because of the size difference but Hopkins is miles ahead on skill. A close decision win for Hopkins. You've really got to hand it to Hopkins for the fights he's gone for over the past few years and for this reason I hope the fight gets made and he wins.

Exactly, every time I think his age will catch up with him, he proves me wrong. I wont jinx him though by picking him, I think Adamek will prevail. Hes not Pavlik or Calzage, guys whos career were in the 160s. Hes a real cruiser.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
He would win I think and I don't see him getting old in a fight, he trains too good he knows his limits. I think he will know when it's time to hang them up, I see him fighting till about 46-47!
I'm not much of a fan at all but props for seeking greater challenges I suppose.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I think you guy's are really underestimating Adamek. He would be the biggest fighter he has fought and to me probably the toughest. That is a huge statement taking into consideration who Bernard has fought but just take a look at his biggest wins. The only even playing field he had was against Jones and Taylor. The men he has faced were all smaller fighter's moving up in weight think about it. Tito,Oscar,Winky,Kelly,Tarver came down from the movie I believe he was weighing 223lbs he was deflated. Yes Calzaghe beat him but he has been around that weight his whole career. I don't like this fight for B-Hop skills can take you so far against a big man who gets to you and can punch. Hopkins doesn't have those type of legs he had against Tito anymore. He would have to trade with Adamek and that would be the wrong thing to do.

Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
dont wanna see bhop at 200pds and would probably go out of my way to avoid watching it (although i would probs end up watching it:()
Talent wise adamek isnt fit to even be in the same ring as hopkins though would have a decent chance at 200 due to the fact hopkins would have to either put 25pound of muscle on in a short time (all but impossible) or turn into a big fat lump like toney :(:(:(
Dont do it bernard, 1-2 more fights at 175 where you just take all the belts and then call it day......PLEASE
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I think he beats Adamek if he can retain his footwork. I mean Chad Dawson how no problems whatsoever beating Adamek. Besides the knockdown with was more his feet being out of position, Chad didn't lose a round, and had Adamek completely at a loss.
I think Adamek is a really good fighter, but he isn't as good as Kelly Pavlik, nor does he have that same power, and he is tailor made like Pavlik for Hopkins.

Actually all he has to weigh is 176 pounds+... ;)

Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
I would love to see BHop fight Adamek.....I would also love to see BHop get laid out by Adamek (I know this wont happen but I can hope);D

Adamek isn't much bigger than Hopkins. They both stand 6'1 and change and have a 75" reach. Sure, Adamek is a big puncher, but he won't be able to catch Hopkins because Hopkins will throw combinations and clinch. Something he can't do against faster fighters. Adamek is somewhat of a bigger Pavlik and we saw what Hopkins did to Pavlik.
It explains why Hopkins wanted nothing to do with Dawson. A fight against Cunningham for the crown of Philly would have been huge, but Hopkins wants nothing to do with Cunningham.
Hopkins wide-UD.
Give Adamek his due because wins over O'Neil Bell, Steven Cunningham, Paul Briggs, and Jonathon Banks merit it. He has beat faster fighters many times, but he hasn't fought anyone close to as crafty as Bhop. Not many have. No one at 200 beats Adamek.
On the other hand, a Bhop v. Adamek would sell a ton of tickets at MSG or the Prudential Center in Newark and Adamek would have a career high pay day. No one at 200 would bring that big of a purse. Why not? It's not like Hopkins will hurt him. Then take a trip over the pond and wipe the floor with Enzo Mac.

Agreed here.I can see Hopkins punching in between Adamek pressure and setting the pace very early, just dont see Adamek with the reverse gears to cope with Hopkins still present combination punching or dealing with angles too well.I would however be weary of Hopkins clinching and laying in too much.Ive come to like Adamek over his last few,Not a pure plodder at all and can turn it up when he has to but I think Hopkins has calculated this one down to the last detail.

Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Hopkins should just retire at this point. Hopkins was gassed against Calzaghe and had his last hurrah against Pavlik. He should leave it at that. If he starts messing with the big men at this very late stage he would most likely come a cropper.
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
No offense but I dont know how many "perfect endings: Hopkins has left.
He is someone that has earned his retirement about 10 times already.
He beats Tarver and then returesm then we think its over and its the perfect ending for him.
He comes back, he faces Wright and Calzaghe and we think Hopkins is too past it and should have retired after the Tarver win despite his ability to still go.
Then he beats Pavlik the current middleweight champion and beats him badly permenantly stamping him as The BEST Middleweight whenever he choses regardless of who the current champ is.
Hopkins could go up and win the Cruiserweight title. But he really shouldnt. I Just wish Hopkins would retire.
I don't want him to end up losing one day to someone who doesnt even belong on his record
-
Re: Hopkins Calling Out Adamek?
Nobody he's been fighting for the last few years "doesn't belong on his record", Adamek's pretty much the recognized man at cruiser, it would be another big victory for Hopkins.
